Braves 2021

Spent the night in Augusta on the way to the beach. Of course the game is BLACKED OUT on the tablet and not covered on the hotel TV! In the realm of bottom feeder teams the Braves dominate. I suppose that is something to build on and I am still under the delliusions this team could be very good with a few changes.

Not sure what to make of this team. Beating St Louis the way they have is encouraging….. but the series against the Mets will be far more telling.

Was good to get the split yesterday especially when facing DeGrom in game 1.

Snit's bullpen management has been criminal. I know he isn't dealing with a great staff but what he's done Sunday/Monday is a firable offense.

Game 1 vs STL bringing in Tomlin down 3-1 and then using Matzek when it's 9-1 of the first game of a DH.

Game 1 vs NYM bases loaded, 2 outs sure lets bring in SEAN NEWCOMB, literally the worst guy in the bullpen who shouldn't even be on the roster. Of course he gave up a 3 run double. The only surprising thing was he actually threw a strike.

Tomlin has had some bad relief appearances of late. No confidence for what is a very unpredictable relief staff.

Bullpen game...not sure why I'm watching. Stealing this game would be awesome.

Who started? When I turned it on Matzek was pitching the 3rd inning and the score was Cincy 2-1. I was thinking another starter went out early with an injury or something.

Chavez I believe.

Glad the Braves gave up Malencon and his 24 saves for Smith. What a smart move by AA!

I hate to see DeGrom get the loss being a big fan of his but love to see the Braves get the win. Riley seems to be improving every season and how about Adrianza getting the start a few minutes before game time and staring the ball rolling with a hustle triple? That was very close but correctly overturned to safe. Is it me or does Ozzie take over leadership when Freddie disappears? Hopefully AA can find better replacements for all the Smiths on the roster but I am starting to have my doubts.

Great game now don't blow the momentum and lose to the friggin' fish!

Welll, that’s been the pattern with this team …. Give the fans some red carpet then pull the rug out from underneath them.

Agree about Riley …

Watching the game last night: when Martin was in trouble in the eighth the cameras quickly panned the Braves bullpen .... where AJ MINTER was warming up!!! Talk about the prospect of jumping from the pan into the fire! Fortunately Martin got out of the jam.

Not sure what the team gained by having Inciarte in the outfield rather than Adrianza. Substituting Inciarte in the batting order for Adrianza going into the bottom of the 9th looked like a major blunder. Ender held on for a walk, thankfully.

Oh, and Melanin now has a MLB leading 25 saves. And, incidentally, former Braves pitcher, Gausman has a 1.68 ERA and an 8-2 record for SF.

LOL!! I was in and out watching this game, and in the top of the ninth after Greene had given up the second home run to make it 7-3, I moved on to something else. I have to say I was not a little surprised to see that final score. I’ll have to record the replay to watch the bottom of the ninth and the tenth inning. Congratulations to the Braves.

We had company over and I was busy in the kitchen and was in and out in the game too lol. I was able to catch the end and was exciting to get a win out of one of these types of games. Back up to 2nd place.

Today had to be one of the crazier endings to a ball game I’ve ever seen. Turned it on in the 9th to see the tying run and then Max Fried let’s freedom ring

Well, momentum and the Braves remain estranged this year. One MLB network analyst simply shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't know what's going on with the Braves."

I think that, at this point, we have to accept the fact that this Braves team, as currently constructed, is not very good--mediocre might be high praise. The biggest malaise is obviously the bullpen, but with the exception of Acuna, Freeman and Albies the offense is merely streaky. It's tough to accept, but this and the injury issues have done a number on them. OF course, Snitker will get all the blame as a prelude to axing him at the end of the season. And then what? Ron Washington? 😝

Matzek walks in the winning run … gave up three walks in the ninth …. Smh

Man this team is missing so much. Pitching again is scary. Duvall and Ozuna no longer here is to me the big difference…. Outside our starting 5 and what it should/could be.

Honestly at this point unless they're going to try and spend big (they wont). It is time to sell and setup for next year. The team also has looked disinterested at times, especially the last two nights.

Trade Freeman, starting to look like he won't sign an extension with Atlanta. If he hits free agency he is gone. Hope I am wrong. Maybe a team will take on Inciarte's contract to get Freeman which would free up some spending money in 2022.

Try and deal Morton, some contender may overpay for him to be a rental.

See what you can get for Swanson on the trade market, maybe package him with some prospects to get bullpen help and a outfield bat for this season and 2022.

The lineup just isn't very good without D'anaud and Ozuna. You have three stars, two streaky hitters and three minor league players.

The bullpen was bad before, but Matzek and Martin haven't been good since the "sticky stuff ban". Luke Jackson may be the best bullpen arm we have which is scary. Snit also doesn't have a clue how to manage a bullpen.

Bright side is there is still a lot of young talent on the roster and the rotation would look promising with Fried, Anderson, Ynoa, Tucker Davidson, Mueller and Soroka. Hopefully they can fill some holes through trades and free agency.

Not sure why Ozuna and d’Arnaud receive such high praise here for their offense … while both had good years during last year’s shortened season, they were batting .213 and .220 respectively this year before going on IL.

Pirates seeking first series sweep of the season ...

"As has been the recent trend, the Braves struggled to score runs in this game. They were shut down by Chad Kuhl, who entered play as the proud owner of a 5.16 ERA. Atlanta has struggled at various times throughout the season, but losing back-to-back games against the Pirates at this point of the season may be the lowest point."

Since his return to the Braves bullpen, Shane Greene‘s ERA is a jaw-dropping 11.57!

Swanson had a good series at the plate against Miami … especially with the loss of Acuna, Swanson’s bat needs to come alive if there is any hope for the rest of the season. The series against TB could be brutal.

The braves have a tough schedule immediately following the break.

Season is over, trade whatever you can for guys not under contract past 2021. Even if you hang around the east build for 2022.

Braves bullpen is responsible for 21 of the Braves losses. I guess we all now realize that this is not a very good club, and the coaching has been on par with Atlanta’s record. The good news is that I am also a TB fan …. So either way, W or L, I am good with the outcome.

Minter has been sent down which is no real surprise. Maybe he can get some better coaching at the minor league level to get his game back in line. Kranitz has had a shelf life of 3-4 years at his other stops and don't expect him to last much longer here either. By the way you know Minter has struggled all month and he has another bad outing Fri. Why not bring him in Sat with a 9-0 lead and see if he can get back on track instead of throwing him in higher pressure situations on Fri & Sun? Poor coaching imo.

IMO Snitker has made a plethora of questionable decisions this year. To listen to his postgame “baseball happens” comments, one wonders what value a manager actually brings to his team.

Minter looked improved last year … this year he looks more like what we have been used to. Tomlin, Martin and Greene have been getting hammered. I understand that Tousaint is starting Tuesday’s game against SD … should be interesting to see if he has made any progress.
