Building a Website???

I would like to learn how to build one.

It's doesn't need to have a lot of functionality to it, just needs to be cosmetically pleasing and say 20 pages with form submit box.

Any one recommend a good place to start?

I know there are places like web.com and wix. I'm going to check them out now, but I have a feeling they are going to own the site and eventually want me to pay for upsells or something like....some kind of catch.

Wasn't sure if there was a place I could take my own domain and build from scratch and then own.

there are several places that allow that. GoDaddy.com is one that comes to mind. Also, domain.com and web.com. The Google can point your way...

Tip #1 - Learn Wordpress
Tip #2 - Pay someone under $1000 on elance or odesk to build the initial framework for you and then you can make edits as needed.
