For the USA I'm not sure that played a role at all in Arena's decision for the Gold Cup roster. He still called up some guys that are big deals for their MLS clubs, but he did it to evaluate them for WCQ and WC considerations. As far as I can tell, that's been an utter failure (minus Dwyer, who might've earned himself a spot on the A-squad, especially ahead of Morris as the 4th striker). For Canada...I didn't think about that, but now that you say that, it makes sense. With that said, I can see someone like Cyle Larin being called up for the KO stages by Canada, as it would only affect one or 2 MLS matches at most, and this is the biggest (and deepest they've been in...) tournament Canada has been in or will be in for the next couple years.
