Hurricane Irma

You sound like my boss with his pad whole house generator, reverse osmosis water purifier, safe room and six months of survival food telling everybody needs to stay at work until a hurricane WARNING is issued.

Im all talk.

MIL lives in Orlando & ranch home, should she leave?

Its too early to tell for sure, but Im not going to bother telling mine, apparently she knows all. Even my wife is baffled at her mom's indifferent attitude. If it was me in Orlando, I would likely be taking Friday off and just take a 4day camping trip to Talladega Nat Forest (now that the FSU game is canceled). Or somewhere in N Fl and then likely west depending on Saturdays turn. But I have little kids, if it was just me, I'd likely stay and go shopping on Monday.

Hotels in S GA are apparently already full. This one scares me. Id board it up and roll out. How old, capable, and a survivalist is your MIL? She already packaging water just in case?

Public schools closed so they can be used as shelters.

Proof Brewing Company in Tally is giving away its purified water. Bring your own jug.
Love Proof's Mango Wit. Wicked Barley Brewing here in Jacksonville is doing the same thing. Located on Baymeadows Rd. right off San Jose Blvd.

Green Room is filling water also. Aardwolf is having a fire sale on their bombers tomorrow. Going to stock up.

It's official...no game :Face with Tears of Joy

I view this as good. I would expect them to cancel the FSU Miami game as well if the storm does hit or clip Miami to early October. This gives 3 full weeks to prepare for NCState, specifically the new kid. Yes, they likely will have 3 games under their belt for his first, but.....

This would have been a good practice game for him.

Nothing to do with game being cancelled, but youre talking about NCState when we have scUM next week? I would be worried about that game.

This weekends game would have been GREAT real game experience for him. Things like management clock, getting plays in and out, building chemistry with WR etc.

Just read all high school events are still one for Friday and Saturday :-/

And FYI, when I saw pace and size of hurricane this morning I was more than certain it was going to be cancelled, I'm bummed but not upset or mad, have to do what's right.

I expect Miami to be re-scheduled to Oct 7.

Yep, me too, I think he missed it in my note.

This is correct, whoops.

I hope that's not the case

I think its also proper to cancel the game, it would in poor taste to play football while our neighbors in the Keys drown. Who could really enjoy the game knowing its coming in 24-48 hours. Too much prepping to be done and how many players does FSU have with family in Miami?

MIL has zero survival skills. Last night at 10p "storm will be on east coast & Orlando is way inland". Which channel & website are you watching? She'll bail Sat morn when there is zero gas and outer bands moving in. Exactly what should not be done.

With the new track they cannot play game b/c people will booze at game and hang around after. Not good scenario.

Just heard from my nephew who is a lineman for Tampa Power. He's on mandatory 16 hour shifts starting tomorrow. They, along with first responders, have no choice but to hunker down so they can get out quickly to help folks.

If she is going to leave, she needs to do so now.

A friend left Coral Gables last night and made it as far a W. Palm before giving up. Looks like he's going to hunker down there. My thoughts and prayers for everyone this weekend. Maybe next year we can have a Harvey/Irma reunion at Doak -- I'll bring the brisket and Shiner.

Well looks like the western movement helps us a ton; my family in Tally not so much. We might not even have to evacuate now; the ironic part is we got a house for a week in Hartwell GA and that place is now likely getting at least tropical depression winds. On a positive note since we are still preparing as if we will have to leave; I found that I have much more ammo than I thought.
Finally for those that follow my TSA interactions; flew home yesterday and everything went smoothly. They did miss the 24oz. Monster I had in my carry on bag; which I forgot about too. There was a guy on my flight out of RDU who I thought might get kicked off the plane. He was last to board and was really ticked that his carry on had to be checked, telling people that they needed to move their back packs since they shouldn't be in the overhead and bit%%% that this is what he gets for letting everyone else board first.

Storm is crazy because they still don't have a good idea on when will turn. Every 10 miles westward makes a big change in its North landfall spot..so basically everyone from Tampa Bay around the tip of Florida to SE Florida has no idea how bad it will be and the same for the rest of us in North.

Heard a lot of abandoned vehicles on interstates. Gas shortages coupled with slow moving traffic not great combo. Turns out you just cant easily have a few million people leave the state at once....

My brother and his wife cut short their stay in Vegas to get back home, arriving in Jax 1AM - found one gas station with gas left and a long line off 95. He closed up their house (St Aug) and they got one way tickets to Baltimore, which was the last flight going up east with seats they could find south of Boston!
My nephew is a first responder so he has to stay and a niece by marriage is an ER nurse so she has to stay too.
I'm the only house on my cul de sac that hasn't been vacated. That's a first. One neighbor said if things get apocalyptic to go in and get his guns for protection. Now how do you fire those things again? o_O

That's what our mayor and county judge told CNN's reporter after they tried to promote this narrative that they should just had everyone evacuate.

So Jose, against most predictions, is now a strong Cat 4. First time in recorded history two Atlantic Storms with 150 MPHS winds at one time. And he is getting ready to possibly smash the same islands again:
SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT...

A HURRICANE WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR...
* ANTIGUA...BARBUDA...AND ANGUILLA
* ST MAARTEN
* ST. MARTIN
* ST. BARTHELEMY

...And those places just can't "print up" money out of thin air like the good ol' U.S. of A. in order to provide disaster relief!

Yep-Houston had learned its lesson on that. Truth is there is no really great solution other than trying to get people out of High Risk storm Surge/Flood areas and into shelters. But there are also just not enough shelters for a CAT 4/5. The Florida Peninsula with 85 % of Florida's population is also a unique challenge because there is only one way out.

And almost 29% live in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties where, other than Monroe County, they have the farthest to go to get out.

Lets just hope it doesn't take the "catheter" route. That would be bad.

Hope you all make it through with minimal damage.
