I am actually pumped up about Jimbo's comments after practice about Golson. He wasn't ringing about his endorsement and that has me excited. Let's look at what Jimbo said. He said "I hope so. We'll find out. He needs to do a much better job though. Needs to do a much better job." Jimbo used to say that kind of thing about the QB's all of the time when EJ and Ponder were here. Not so much with Jameis but he was the exception. To me, if a QB is really in over his head Jimbo doesn't openly spew negative comments about it to the press. He just moves another QB ahead of him. But if a QB is really making progress then those kind of comments are a way of motivating them to stay with it and don't get complacent and putting them under pressure rather than treating them with kid gloves.
I took Jimbo's comments to mean he wants to see the progress happen in games and we're going to have to wait another 9 days to find out. But it is a definite change for Jimbo to change his expectation level up to the kind of things he expected from Ponder or EJ when he would say those kinds of things rather than sugarcoating things to the press.
