Fisher post-scrimmage:

LATE REPORT

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher was the most candid he's been this spring when he said after Saturday's scrimmage there was not enough consistency or toughness.

His sobering assessment came as the offensive line stayed behind while the rest of the team walked out of Doak Campbell Stadium. The entire offensive line was running wind sprints although Fisher said the group had its good and bad moments.

"Guys made some plays but again ... just not enough consistency, not enough toughness on both sides of the ball," Fisher told reporters. "I mean both sides made plays but there's not enough ... we're not mentally and physically tough enough. That's not coach talk, it's just the place where we are at right now and we gotta grind through it."

Fisher was also critical of the quarterbacks. He's usually been careful about how he describes the group but his message was clear after practice.

"I was not pleased with that part of it today," Fisher said in response to how the quarterbacks operated out of the huddle. "They made plays today. But there was not enough consistency. Not enough fire in them taking leadership in what they did. Again, I am not being 'coach talk' but that's where we are at.

"They're doing some really good things but they're not there yet."

Star tailback Dalvin Cook and receiver Travis Rudolph saw action but were limited for a consecutive scrimmage to keep them healthy, Fisher said. He also noted defensive end DeMarcus Walker and safety Derwin James received more playing time. Fisher said James had an interception.

Fisher did praise running back Jacques Patrick. He said the 6-foot-2 and 230-pound running back took what would be two or three-yard runs and turned them into longer gains. Fisher said he's been looking that sort of production from Patrick.

As Fisher was talking to reporters, his former protege and LSU quarterback Jamarcus Russell was walking off the field. He was in town to see Fisher and speak to the players.

Once reporters completed their nearly seven-minute session with Fisher, they were able to interview Rudolph and Walker.

Check back later in the day and evening for more highlights and insight from today's practice.

EARLY REPORT

For the first (and only time) this spring, the rain held off and Florida State was actually able to hold a practice/scrimmage inside Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday.

It was the first chance for media to see the inside of Doak Campbell since the renovations started. There were a few construction crews working on the Champions Club addition as practice was taking place. Also, a good number of the bleachers were rusted. Quite the contrast compared to what we are seeing.

Now, for the news:

>Mario Pender was on the sidelines but at practice. Receivers Da'Vante Phillips and Nyqwan Murray were also held out of practice. Murray sat on the bench with a brace on his right knee. As was the case last week, Travis Rudolph was at practice but was in a blue jersey. There were also a number of recruits who observed practice. FSU signee Naseir Upshur was among those who checked out practice. Our Gene Williams took some photos of Upshur and others which should be over on the Premium Recruiting Board at some point.

>Lately, movement on the offensive line has been a talking point and it was another Saturday. Wilson Bell returned to right guard with Rick Leonard at right tackle when the first team went through reps. Bell was demoted earlier in the week to second team and did not appear to be pleased. The rest of the first team included Roderick Johnson, Kareem Are and Alec Eberle. Brock Ruble, who was starting at right tackle on Monday, was with the second unit.

>We continue to see the power and placement from freshman kicker Ricky Aguayo. He was hitting field goals from 30 to 40 yards. A couple of them went about 10 to 15 rows into the stands. Now, we did see the punters get in some work. Not the sexiest detail but it is new. Redshirt junior Jonathan Hernandez turned some heads with the thud that came from his foot. He also got some height on the ball. Distance was hard to judge because he didn't have the whole field to work with. As for the punt return team, Rudolph and Bobo Wilson were handling those duties.

>Deondre Francois continued his run of taking first-team snaps during drills. Really, it was more of the same with him. Good pace with his throws although there were a couple that got dropped or were slightly overthrown. J.J. Cosentino had some good passes as did Malik Henry.

>Cornerback Marquez White is still out with a hand injury. Today's starting cornerbacks were sophomores Marcus Lewis and Tarvarus McFadden.

>FSU also tinkered around with a 4-3 package with the most interesting detail coming at linebacker. The three were Ro'Derrick Hoskins, Matthew Thomas and freshman Josh Brown.

Here's your Tweet of the Day:

We've been told Jimbo Fisher and players will be available around 2:30 p.m....actually, we're getting Fisher a little bit later. It's been common for us to get him later than expected. Once spoke with a security guard who told me, "if the practices are long, that means [Fisher's] happy. If they're short, he's not happy."

Until next time. Goodbye for now.
