The culmination of Florida State softball's season is here. After a 3-0 run through the first portion of the Women's College World Series, the No. 3 Seminoles (58-9) begin the best-of-three WCWS Championship Series against No. 1 Oklahoma (59-1) Wednesday on ESPN.

Game 1 was supposed to start at 8 p.m. EST but the start has been delayed indefinitely due to lightning in the area which has caused the stadium to be vacated. Updates as to a start time for the series opener will be shared here when available.

The Sooners enter the championship series on a 51-game winning streak, an NCAA record. FSU enters on a hot streak of its own, having won 24 of its last 25 games and 33 of its last 35.

OU leads the all-time series against FSU 9-8 after winning a midweek game 5-4 over the Seminoles at its home stadium back in March. This is the third year FSU and Oklahoma have faced off in the postseason, previously doing so in 1994 and in the 2021 WCWS Championship Series, which the Sooners won two games to one.

It would indeed seem that the game won't be starting on time. 30 minutes out from first pitch and the entire crowd has to vacate the stadium due to lightning in the area.

A considerable number of Oklahoma fans are here.

But there will again be a loud contingent of FSU fans

Proud of our Noles. Love the way they play for team first.

The rain delay sound track is in full force

Currently: Blame it on the rain

I totally and completely understand lightning delays. One lightning injury from a preventable situation is one too many.

What I don’t understand is how we survived all those years when we played right through it.
I guess God protected those of us who were too ignorant to know better.

A lot less fear mongering back then. 40 years ago if you saw lightning and hear thunders you took shelter. Today some sensor detects what you can't see or hear and it is head for the hills.

FSU lineup:

LF Kaley Mudge
CF Jahni Kerr
3B Kalei Harding
C Michaela Edenfield
2B Devyn Flaherty
P Mack Leonard
RF Hallie Wacaser
1B Bethaney Keen
SS Josie Muffley

OU lineup:

CF Jayda Colemaan
2B Tiare Jennings
DP Haley Lee
C Kinzie Hansen
3B Alyssa Brito
SS Grace Lyons
1B Cydney Sanders
RF Alynah Torres
LF Rylie Boone

RHP Jordy Bahl (21-1, 0.97 ERA)

Mack Leonard will be in the circle for FSU
Tennessee hit Mack hard early in her last outing but she settled in well and has been the second-most-used pitcher this postseason behind Kat. An interesting move, to be sure, but far be it for me to starting doubting Lonni Alameda's decision-making now.

Limit how much OK has to see Kat tonight. Their extra AB's against pitchers is ridiculous.

Harding sends a shot slicing toward the line in RF but it's caught

Middle 1st, 0-0

We have a severe weather warning here between innings, the radar is somewhat colorful and moving this way unfortunately

Leonard is pitching in bot 1st

We are officially in a delay. They want fans to evacuate back to their cars. Which is so tough when there are 13,000 - 14,000 fans here

A lightning strike beyond the stands in right-center field. I think we're headed for a delay
This is a bit ridiculous.
We have went from playing games at 2 am to 4 plus hour softball games due to lightning every 45 minutes.

Public address announcers has said several times that fans need to evacuate, that it's mandatory.

Thousands are, thousands aren't. It's a logistical mess to keep doing this to fans.

Damn! The radar doesn't look so bad. Maybe a little discretion would be in order here.
