For the first time this season, the Florida State baseball team will play a rubber match at Dick Howser Stadium Sunday afternoon.
After winning 5-4 on a Max Williams walk-off Friday night and losing 12-0 Saturday afternoon, the No. 4 Seminoles (25-5, 8-3 in ACC) take on Wake Forest (22-10, 8-6) Sunday at 1 p.m. (ACC Network Extra) with the series on the line.
As FSU looks to win its eighth straight weekend series to begin the 2025 season, it turns to sophomore LHP Wes Mendes (2.83 ERA over 35 innings) on the mound. Mendes was great in his first five home starts at FSU this season, allowing two earned runs with 43 strikeouts to three walks. However, he's struggled more in his last two starts on the road, allowing nine earned runs over 7.2 innings with more walks (10) than strikeouts (9). Could a return to Dick Howser help him rediscover his early-season form?
Wake Forest will start sophomore RHP Blake Morningstar (2.29 ERA over 35.1 innings). He's got a .189 batting average against this season with far more strikeouts (44) than walks (11).
