Mariotta looks great on his first touchdown pass.

Meh, accurate pass but it was a great play call and the defense bought it

lol @ Jeff Cameron saying he wouldn't draft Mariota at all, let alone in the first round. Same sentiment was expressed from about half of the TC too.

He made an accurate one read pass. That is what he did well at Oregon. He also set up his running back for a huge hit.
He also threw a dart on third down right before the TD. The guy looks comfortable. Winston, not so much.

Well Jeff Cameron is not very smart when it comes to college-to-NFL players.

I dont know who Jeff Cameron is, but if he really said that, then he quite simply doesnt know what he is talking about.

Again, a one read pass. Give Whisenhunt credit for calling plays that Mariota can execute.
6/9 for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns, in two drives and you refuse to give him credit for making the throws.

Good job Jameis. Really important in getting his confidence up.

You may have heard this during the game, but Mariota became the first QB to throw for four TD passes in the first half in his first game.

Also Doug Williams' first pass was returned for a pick six just like JW's was. So maybe that was a sign of things to come. JW did get better as the game went on but of course the game was out of hand by the half.

I like to take a "wait and see " approach to guys going from college to the NFL instead of "guaranteeing" that they will be a definite success (i.e. one Jameis Winston). The hate spewed toward Mariota last year by several on here was awful. "Can you say B-I-A-S ?
I think one of the most overworked, tired and ridiculous phrases that some on here used was that Mariota was a "system QB." Never mind his QB rating and LOOKING at his on-field performance. I am not a "Mariota fan." I probably could be accurately accused of being a "JW fan." But I did have to smile when thinking back on the Mariota bashers who proclaimed JW an outstanding NFL guarantee before he ever left college, and that Mariota was an inept QB who would "never be successful" in the NFL.
Too bad Jameis got drafted by Tampa Bay and could not mature into the NFL. I wish him well. I wish him the Hall of Fame some day. But it does not square with his last-year college performance. Jameis is a talented and brilliant guy. But nobody is a "guarantee."
And Mariota haters? You were wrong on two counts.

Winston will still have a longer and far more successful career. Check with me in 5 years and I'll admit I was wrong if I am indeed wrong.

I'll have this conversation at the end of year when Marriota is forced to go through progressions and has to deal with blitzes. Tampa didn't make him do either of those things to day

Marriota making 1 read throws to wide open receivers.

Winston was making tight throws with being flushed out of the pocket on every play and A LOT of penalties on the Oline.

That was on the Bucs defense. They looked more lost than Winston.
Absolutely no answer for 5-7 yard seam passes.
How does a NFL defense let a rookie QB destroy them. Lovie Smith, who took over calling the defense, should be ashamed.

QBs develop differently. I think Jameis needed to be brought into a system with a veteran that he could learn from for a year. Marriota was brought into a perfect west coast style offense where his reads are quick and the ball is out of his hands within 3-4 seconds. Tampa's system is asking a lot of a rookie. They are having Jameis drop back and make reads down the field as though he is a seasoned veteran in the league all while they have a shabby offensive line that can't pass protect well and receivers that struggle to get open. That's tough on any QB let alone a rookie. If they had a quick passing game like Tennessee that's much easier on a rookie QB.

Even Aaron Rodgers and many others sat behind veteran QBs as rookies. It's tough being brought in and asked to be the savior right away. Jameis has to get used to the speed of the game and elite athletes every where on defense. Like the screen that he threw and INT on. In college a DE gets cut and he doesn't get up that quickly and leap to make an interception in a screen. Jameis has to throw that with more urgency. Everything is faster in the NFL and most rookie QBs have to learn to adjust to that. He will get better but I just wish hey hadn't just thrown him in the fire like they did.

Op is the king of overreactions

Wrong! What is "overreaction" was apparently guys like you that said Mariota had "no chance" in the NFL. I do not know if he does or doesn't, but I was not "over reactionary" enough to guarantee his downfall AND conversely, guarantee that Jameis would be a resounding success ! Do I HOPE that JW is going to be successful ? Absolutely.
Do I care one way or another about Mariota's success or failure? Best wishes to him; nothing against him . Whatever, but he has already proved a few on here last year WRONG.

Brett Favre's 1st pass was a pick 6 as well.

You can't be serious! It's a team game my friend. The bucs entire team is awful, I repeat awful. I can guarantee if Jameis went second and Mariota first we would be talking about a complete role reversal. Better players, period. If you can't recognize that I can't help you. Evans their best receiver was out, they are slow at receiver as well, and the o line is well, the worst in the league. Oh and by the way, the defense is as bad as it gets in the NFL. He probably will not have a great rookie year, but given more weapons with time to actually take a drop and read the defense, he will be very good. Mariota no doubt has a great skill set, but the way the Titans set their offense it looks remarkably like Oregon's. Wisenhut was very smart to do this. He's a 1 read or run qb. That's who he is, Jaboo is a classic pocket guy, and with no chance to set your feet, you will not be very good. He made some really bad mistakes today, but we more than anybody else should know about how he always comes back, and he will.

Bledsoe had a pretty good career, and RGIII is a headcase, if Mariota doesnt go down that road, then he will be fine. He is also the only the 2nd player to throw 4 TDs in his first game. The other, Fran Tarkenton.
