Finally got back to a ballgame yesterday. A little chilly in the shade, but a beautiful day and win.

I think I hadn’t been in person to a ballgame since the 2019 season. When did they replace the dirt at home base with black artificial turf? I can’t recall seeing this anywhere before, and while there were only a few slides at home, they went about as clumsy and awkward as I expected. WTF? Seems like a player hazard.

Also, was sitting in the third row behind first base, and as we got into the 6th realized I never heard the Animals sing oh Canada in the 5th.
Did that die in the pandemic?

The field was done after the end of last season I believe. It’s fairly new.

Now that you mention O Canada, I don’t recall hearing it Friday night either. Though, Friday I was freezing to death.

They talked about the new home turf a good bit on TV but either I missed it or they didn’t say what the reasons were for the artificial turf… seems like it would be hell to slide on… was imagining a cartoon where dude is motoring towards home on a bang bang play, everybody’s yelling SLIDE!!!! and the runner’s thought bubble says “nah, I’m good”

The animals were very quiet the past two days.

I am friends with quite a few of The Animals and usually sit with them when we're able to make a game. I'll ask.
I didn’t think of it until someone else mentioned but I don’t remember hearing Oh Canada. I could have been getting food or at the bathroom. But they were vocal with K time and other cheers.

My granddaughter had her first experience singing (Okay, that might be an exaggeration) at five weeks old. She'll get another chance in a few weeks now that she's one. This will have to become a tradition.
