What a start. Heck of a feed from Nighswonger to Echegini and she muscles off the defender from just about 8 yards out and finishes past the keeper. 1-0 FSU, 5th minute.
Nighswonger wins a free kick from about 22 yards out. Whistles it wide right. Still 1-0 FSU. 22 mins left in 1st half.
Noles look dangerous getting the ball wide. Midfield has stepped up big the last 15 mins.
Corner kick from right flag is headed over the bar by Jody Brown. 16 mins left in first half.

Handball in the box on Flynn and UNC coverts. 1-1 with just under 13 mins left to play in the first half. Tough break.
First half thoughts:
Noles played pretty well overall. Getting the ball wide and doing well at times through the middle. Getting first goal was huge. FSU has better chances from run of play, but game turned into a bit of clunker towards the end of the half. Backline has been solid for most part as well.

Nighswonger from deep just misses the frame. Great effort as the second half begins.
Last couple mins have been all FSU. Couple of great chances but Noles haven’t been able to finish. Momentum swinging though.
As I say that, UNC breaks free on a counter and delivers a ridiculous strike to beat Roque. What a shot. 2-1 UNC leads. 32 mins left in the game.
Olsson with a great header saved right at the line by the UNC keeper. Noles feel close, need a quality finish. 25 mins left in game.
Under 15 mins left. Another glancing header wide for Olsson. 2-1 UNC leads
Final: UNC holds on 2-1. Noles outplayed Tar Heels but tough loss. First home loss for FSU since 2019 in the NCAA Quarterfinals vs UCLA.
Roque's first loss of her career. FSU definitely was the better team. The difference was that flukey handball in the box that gave them a free penalty kick. Haven't looked at the possession numbers but it certainly felt like we dominated there. And vs a team that almost never gives up possession.
Came down to finishing. UNC did one better. Back at it Sunday.
Unfortunately her hands were out front. No beef with the call after review.
Love the effort after falling behind. Things don't get much easier on the road against Pitt Sunday.

Thought FSU was the better team. So many chances that they just have to finish. Created many good looks. These teams could definitely see each other once or even twice more this season, as we have seen in the past.
Always difficult to give up a result that big on a bang bang play.
I watched the second half and it just looked like the Lady Heels figured something out we couldn’t catch. Not our night.
