My dog yesterday saw a cat out in the yard and decided to run through our back porch patio screen. His body crunched together on the screen and fell flat on his back(which was quite humorous) but he ripped the bottom of the screen out. After checking it out I think it needs to be completely replaced. Anybody have any insight on to how to do this or will I need to hire someone to do it for me? TIA

It's a piece of cake to repair. If it's an aluminum frame, there is a rubber seal that holds the screen in place. You can go to Home Depot and buy a roller tool to replace the rubber for about $5. Pull the rubber out and replace the screen. Use said tool to insert the rubber seal and trim off excess.

If wood frame, the screen would be stapled under some trim most likely. Pull the trim. Replace screen. Reattach trim

Don't hire anyone. It's really easy. Get the little roller tool at Lowe's and some screen and you'll be fine.

One tip - because I just did this project - make sure to match up the spline (black rubber strip that holds the screen in) to the original. I bought the round type not knowing, when it actually took the flat kind. There are a couple of different types to choose from.

Yeah, doing one section of a lower screen is not too hard - but as someone mentioned make sure you get the right kind of spline.

The higher panels that involve a ladder or scaffolding are a pain, I've paid someone to do those but replace the lower ones myself.

In my experience, pulling the old rubber out is the hardest part. Don't do like I have done and accidentally cut the new screen when trying to trim the excess....

The materials are so cheap buy extra. Do it a couple times if you have to, there are a couple tricks to make it nice and tight that you will figure out along the way. If it is a big panel an extra set of hands is nice to have in order to get the 'grid' of the screen straight and even.

Bring in a piece of your screen and the rubber edging to the home store so they can match it up, there are different kinds and size holes in them, etc.
