Tampa Bay BUCS

Do you want Brady to have a cup of coffee back there in the pocket? Since 2016 there have only been 10 instances where a QB has taken over 3 seconds on average to throw a pass through the course of a season (128 pass attempts minimum). Yes I'm sure there are instances where the line provides good protection and the QB might have 4 seconds. However, it looks like 2.5-3.0 seconds is the normal amount of time it takes a QB to release their passes.

I'll agree the line needs to give Brady time, and if they do he will carve up just about any defense with the weapons he has. If he has 4 seconds to throw his passes, every lineman on the Bucs better be in the Pro Bowl and eventually be Hall of Fame candidates.

2016 Tyrod Taylor (Buffalo) averaged 3.13 seconds
2017 Tyrod Taylor (Buffalo) averaged 3.02 seconds
2017 Brett Hundley (Green Bay) averaged 3.00 seconds
2017 Russell Wilson (Seattle) averaged 3.05 seconds
2017 DeShaun Watson (Houston) averaged 3.10 seconds
2018 DeShaun Watson (Houston) averaged 3.01 seconds
2018 Lemar Jackson (Baltimore) averaged 3.1 seconds
2018 Josh Allen (Buffalo) averaged 3.22 seconds
2018 Russell Wilson (Seattle) averaged 3.02 seconds
2019 Kirk Cousins (Minnesota) averaged 3.01 seconds

I did not realize that. It always seemed like Brady had forever back there with the Pats especially when they won the Super Bowls. He didn’t get a cup of coffee back there when he got hurried a lot during the season tho. I hope he can get 4 seconds just for his age sake lol.

If you read those stats, he had less time to throw last year than Winston did.

Interesting stats......comparing Winston to Brady is probably fruitless from these stats though. Winston had the second highest average completed air yards, while Brady was in the bottom half. Winston threw for 47% more yards per completion. That speaks more to the different systems they were running than any ability to throw. You need more time to throw longer passes though. The real question is if Arians will change his system to accommodate Brady's needs now like Belichick did for him? As a Patriot fan, I noted Belichick was constantly changing the offense to fit the personnel and accommodate what Brady needed to become successful. Arians didn't do that last year with Winston.

I am genuinely curious. I believe you are from New England and assume you saw a lot of the Patriots. How many Bucs games did you watch? What type of offense do you believe fits Jameis. I would think the type Arian's runs would be what he likes. The Bucs could have benefited from a better running game. There is no question about that but Jameis style is that of a gunslinger and that fits what Arians runs.

Keep in mind the Time to Throw stat is not necessarily how much time he had to throw, but rather how much time it took him to throw. Brady threw a lot quicker because the offense was geared more towards short quick throws. I'm sure if Brady is given 3 seconds before he needs to throw a pass, he will be thrilled.

Not a lot, and I wasn't commenting on Jameis's needed style. Arian has a certain style of offense that he brought with him and correct me if I am wrong, but last year it was the same as the last time we saw his offense. The Patriots had AB, Gordon and Dorsett for a brief moment last year and their offense looked completely different in those short moments without Gronk and with Edelman obviously playing hurt. The offense looked different year to year too depending on personnel. Last year after AB and Gordon were gone and Dorsett was hurt, it struggled, but went to more short throws to RBs, more running and tried to find a decent TE. Brady wasn't as effective as defenses closed down lanes., even Belichick/Brady couldn't figure out how to be dynamic with those losses. They brought in Sanu, but he didn't have time to integrate him and Brady basically preferred others by that time late in the season. Their offensive line had injuries too, causing lack of time to throw. Basically, I will wait and see on Arians. As of now, I am not a huge fan, but he might prove me wrong. As to Belichick......well his history has proven who he is. I will be interested in watching both teams and how they perform this year.
