The Official 2018 World Cup Thread...

From France down 2-1 to up 4-2 just like that.

France is just on another level this game. The passing has been precision and the entire team looks to be reading everything the exact same way as each other.

This team might have it, we'll see next Friday though.

The 1p game should be greatness as well!!

Les,
I will say I was wrong in that Argentina played better than I thought they would. But I think France was the better team.

As for England in the final on my picks. I have them there more because of the draw they have than saying they are the second best team in the tournament. If they were on the other half of the bracket I think they would give Brazil a game but I would have them going out in the QFs. I think Southgate got it right to rest the first teamers and let the chips fall where they may.

That ref should not have been allowed in the round of 16, just horrible game control. Congrats to Uruguay!!!

Is there a better nation at the sport historically per capita population?

None even close. They have no right to be as good as they are. Less than 4 million people, but produced 2 of the best strikers in the world and the center back pair for Atletico Madrid, who are one of the best defensive teams in the world. Our nanny is from Uruguay, so I have been following them for a while. They are a hard team to watch but they know exactly what they are and they all completely buy into what they are doing. They finished second in South American qualifying, which is a slogfest--10 team home and home round robin spanning 2 years.

Oh man, so today set a very difficult tone for the rest of the knockout stages to hold up. Ended up watching URU/POR at a very fine dining establishment with waitresses in lumberjack attire and I was shocked at the amount of a) TVs set to the match and b) number of eyes on those TVs.

It's typical to hear cheering for goals or big saves, but it was somewhat surprising the amount of boisterousness for skilled passing and impressive defensive cover.

I'm officially on the Kylian Mbapper bandwagon, that kid is something else.

Watching both games today was enjoyable, but the day became even better getting to see the 5 Stripes demolish Orlando City 4-0 in front of over 71,000. There's a reason we call this game The Rivalry That Really Isn't.

We were there tonight. Being from Fl I also pull for OCSC but keep it on the lowdown. ATL Utd was on fire— it was a fun match. We signed the golden spike for the first time... lot of fun.

Don't cry 4-3 Argentina.

Looking at Spain to advance vs Russia in first game and Croatia in a tight match over Denmark.

Unfortunately, with Spain scoring first, it's become quite dull watching them kick it around with no intention to attack:

Spain is doing a great job of maintaining possession and completing a high percentage of their passes. Too bad most of those passes are sideways & backwards within about a 20-25 yard section of the pitch. Despite being tied 1-1 they look like they are just trying to see out a 2-0 win.

They have completed about 7thousand passes today, which have resulted in one goal and one shot. maybe they should attempt a risky pass at least once.

How was that not a penalty for holding in the box?
