Update To Last Months Edison Thread

As much as I don't like being a part of the locals funding this place through taxes I have no faith anything will come of this. Has anyone in Tallahassee ever been held accountable for their actions? Remember Mayor Marks and the Honeywell deal? Eh. Remember all the big raises given to high level employees and all the changes that were demanded and happened? Oh yeah, nothing came of it. Nothing ever happens and I’m tired of people getting fired up and nothing happening. I’m sure this will result in not enough evidence or something along those lines and the Edison will continue to flounder but be paid for by the local tax payers.

But let’s just say the Edison just doesn’t cut the mustard. What happens to the lease on the building?

This sums it up well. Heck, mayor marks didn't live in the city until he became mayor and annexed his house into the city AFTER he was mayor.

Local officials around the state are quick to declare an area blighted and spend the CRA revenue on pet projects as found money. In reality the growth in property tax revenue is being diverted from general government and public safety. Btw, Leon County is #1 in crime three years in a row.

We're #1! We're #1!! oh, that is not a good thing. never mind.

I'd love to see a heat map of that.
All crime?
Violent crime?
Murders?

By what metric(s) is Leon County "#1 in crime for 3 years in a row?"

I'm not (necessarily) disputing it. Just like to hear/learn more about the statistics b/c other than a few teenagers breaking into (unlocked) cars in Southwood, I'm not aware of any overwhelming crime waves in Tallahassee.

No bigger Scam out there than CRA's..basically Taxpayer funded Slush Funds...look who the biggest Donors and/or Friends are to the Politicians in any City and you will see who gets most of The CRA Grants..not really a coincidence

College Town was a good CRA investment. It did what it's designed to do, redevelop a blighted area.

I've been very happy with College Town and the Cascades project other than the Edison. Both have substantially improved the city especially in my eyes (as I now organised do beer crawls or runs at least once a month over in CT).

That is what I read this morning, but they have like 90K pages of documents to review.
Good lord, so I take it no ruling on whether or not they are going to press charges will come out anytime soon?

Not sure how I missed this a couple of weeks ago, but yeah. Tallahassee has been suffering from wave after wave of violent crime, at a rate disproportionate to population size. You cannot start a day without reading of a shooting/stabbing/attempted rape.

ETA, the metric as I understood is was violent crime per capita. Violent crime defined as: Armed robbery, sexual battery, murder, and any of those with "attempted" in front of them. There are probably a couple of more that need to be added, but I am just going off the top of my head.

Fergeson Effect type thing where maybe the cops have decided to keep a lower profile since they bounced that drunk gal off their car and pavement so hard she cracked her eye socket and crapped her pants?

I feel literally no sense of dread in Tallahassee. But it has been a few decades since I delivered pizzas and wings to the state streets...

Stats are BS IMO as they don't count any Students as Tallahassee or Leon County Residents yet they are the ones committing and being victimized in a lot of the Crimes that go into official stats..same reason you see Gainesville artificially so high in the stats..not saying Tally has been great lately but it's certainly not as bad as the flawed data makes it out to be

We've had students in Tallahassee for over 150 years, yet the last 3 years are the years in question.

In the last decade we have seen massive shifts in social norms and acceptance. It's easy to believe that while, yes, we have had students here for a long time that only in recent years have trends spiraled away from traditional norms. I'm not saying it's bad or good, just different. This generation has come up in a time of full access to pretty much anything. We're going through an adjustment and probably will for another 10 years.

Had dinner at The Edison tonight and basically paid $16 for an entree that was a microwave tv meal. Drinks were slow to come as well. The excuse? It was a game weekend. Lame.

To alleviate blight the local CRA has been handing out millions and millions in development subsidies to a tight group of insiders for high end projects meanwhile over in the real blight there were six shooting incidents last weekend alone.
