WARCHANT Bourbon Thread

Yes, you are correct. But, it is a rye whiskey that pours like a Bourbon. In truth, not much difference between a rye whiskey and Bourbon.

I'm just bustin' your chops. I'm a long time whisk(e)y drinker. Visited many a distillery from the ones in KY and TN to smaller ones out here in the west to ones in Scotland.

I know my whisk(e)ys. :)

And I have two bottles of MWND here at home ... Batch 6, Scene 4.

I have multiple sources for Bourbon including a couple of local distributors. However, for rare bottles or Blanton's, I found a liquor site out of California that illegally ships to Florida in non labled packages.

You should join a couple of Facebook sites that are great places to buy and to win (MegaFireBallz). I've been selling some of my stash recently as I think that some of the stuff is really overpriced ... 1K for WLW? 600 for Lot B? Really?

Heck, ETL is going for 250 and W12 for 220. I just don't get it. I mean, I get supply and demand ... but ... there are still plenty of very good bourbons that can be had for under 100 per bottle. I think that a lot of it is just "Emperor's New Clothes" type of stuff.

I've sold 3 WLW bottles, 3 Lot B, 3 ORVW, 2 GTS and an Eagle Rare 17 (that one for 1250).

I mean ... I'll happily drink good old 10 year Eagle Rare and pocket the 1000 profit.

It’s a blessing and a curse. Because I have bottles that I’ll never even think of opening because of the value. So I’ll never get to drink them. And I had bottles I never wanted to get rid of but the value has skyrocketed so much you would be an idiot not to let go of.

In the end I like hunting and fishing trips much more than whiskey. But...I’ve kept my absolute favorite bottles in my do not sell bunker ( which has close to 60 bottles alone in it ) some pushing well over 1k a piece.

Yeah, I just can't see myself enjoying a 1000 bottle of whiskey. I'm too damned cheap. I like the Weller bourbons, but the 12 year old is fine by me and I've got several bottles in my stash. I had five bottles of WLW and I've sold three of them. I'll probably sell the other two eventually because I just can't see enjoying them when I know what I can pocket for them. Again, I'm cheap. Scottish blood. I think we call it frugal ... but it's really being cheap.

ORVW and Lot B is so overrated IMHO. The fact that folks are paying 600 and 550 a bottle ... just wow. Just unreal to me.

I need a break from virus' and politics and a general lack of sports. So, let's talk Bourbon :).

I am a serious collector, with over 105 bottles currently in my collection. Recently added a couple of great pours, pictured here.

Who wants to join me in this discussion?

It's not a bourbon but I bought this Japanese whiskey on an auction a couple of years ago. It is from the early 1970s. I took just a few tips from it but it's lovely. https://www.whiskyauctioneer.com/lot/141225/karuizawa-yamanashi-ocean-bright-1970s

There are some awesome bourbons and whiskeys to be found on this auction website

Two of my good friends enjoy and appreciate Bourbon as I do. Our first drink is always a top shelf pour. Usually a Pappy. Then, we drink from the regular bar for the evening. The last pour is usually top shelf as well. My friends could not afford that, so I get the bonus of giving them a treat they would not otherwise enjoy.
At the end of the evening, I have a company (IV Solutions) come out and give everyone an IV to help sober them up and provide a nice detox so nobody has a hangover in the morning :).

I’m usually out on Bulleit unless it’s a mixer. That being said... The barrel proof, Blender’s Select, & some of the single barrel store picks I’ve had are pretty good. As a matter of fact, the Blender’s Select is one of my favorite bourbon’s of 2020.

You never know what you’re going to find. Just snagged a Blanton’s and a Stagg Jr. randomly.

Please tell me that is a joke on the IV?

My favorite affordable bourbon is Angel's Envy. Very smooth and at $50 a bottle I can keep several in the pantry! I do, however, drink ANY bourbon or scotch someone puts in front of me!
You should try their Rum Cask aged rye. One of the best tasting drinks I have had. Has a nice note of maple in the smell and taste.

Not a joke at all. It is nectar of the Gods after drinking for 6-7 hours. 2,000 mg of Glutathione, vitamin C, B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium. Add some anti headache and anti nausea. In the morning, you wake up fresh and feeling good. Zero hang over or residual effect. I swear by it.

It works. It is ridiculous but it works.

I have seen the oxygen bars in Vegas but have never heard of getting an IV while drinking.

Ho Lee Hell that is amazingly absurd! You win the internet today lol sir. Fantastic.
Thanks man. Most of this came pre-boom when you could walk into the ABC Fine Wine & Spirits and Weller 12 was sitting on the shelves. I'm not a massive spender on booze (don't let this picture fool you) so I don't ever reach the thresholds to get premier treatment by the big box liquor stores. I try to create strong relationships with my local ABC FWS manager but have struggled to do that when I moved to Tallahassee around 3 years ago. Becoming increasingly more difficult to get the highly allocated stuff. I will tell you... Old Grand Dad 114 is so damn good. For $33 bucks a bottle, tough to beat and readily available.

Since this thread is active I thought I would ask this question. We are doing a family trip from Tallahassee to San Antonio to see my sister-in-law and her family for a week. I've done the bourbon hunting on road trips with marginal success for work trips up to Atlanta from Tallahassee. The plan right now is to drive to Mobile, continue on for dinner in Baton Rouge and stay in Beaumont, TX for the night. We then drive to San Antonio the next AM. While in San Antonio we will hang out largely in the city and do either a day trip/ overnight trip to Austin. When we head back we are stopping in New Orleans for dinner and will end in Mobile at a hotel. We will continue on back home the next AM. Now that I've given you the path - any good areas of the country in either LA or TX I can hit up off I-10. While in LA I'm going to pick up a bottle of baby Saz as it makes a great old fashioned but I'd welcome any hot spots or areas that have anything worth a damn on the shelf. I know Ohio is flush with Weller Antique but anything allocated would be great to score. I recognize this is not the time of the year for it to hit but I'm seeing a lot of EH Taylor Barrel Proof out there and I'd love to score a bottle. While in Texas I'll probably hit up a few Specs to see what they have but I heard they have all deployed a reward system for allocated bottles. Welcome any thoughts.

Yes... There’s NuNu’s in Youngsville just outside of Lafayette. Colandro’s Market in Baton Rouge. In NOLA you have Martin Wine Cellar, Dorignac’s, & Elio’s. On the north shore of the NOLA area you have Acquistapace’s in Mandeville & Covington. In Ocean Springs, MS you have Maisano’s Fine Wines.

Happy hunting ;)

I suggest you try it before passing judgement. I can drink all night and still get up at 8:30 the next morning and hit the gym feeling good...

My buddy is an EMT. Does the same thing. Always brings bags when we’re going to drink hard.

Seemed like you were passing judgement. Sorry if I misinterpreted.

I was a Marine infantryman, this was our go to - when I picked up Cpl, I moved in with one of our Corpsman, 0500 boots & utes runs on the beach weren’t so bad after that.

Always have the 114 in stock at home. Really great bargain. I suggest it to friends all the time.

I kept a few bottles that are worth a good bit that I might drink someday. One of them being a single barrel of JPS 18 which is stitzel weller. The others are Rocky Mountain rye 16 and 21 year. Also some early Michter 10 yr ryes.

Other than that. I’m not drinking a 1400 bottle. And yeah I’ve not been overly impressed with any van winkle stuff. It’s all over priced weller juice anyway, and not worth what people are paying for it.

the only extremely valuable bottles that have absolutely blown me away and I would trade for and actually drink were michters 20, Willet Wax top 22 year & old fitzgerald from 1949. Top three pours of all time for me.

Otherwise, I’ll take the cash and drink my sub 100 bottles

I've got a 23 year old Pappy and a 15 year old. I'll never drink them with what they are going for, but I'm not selling yet. I've got a Sazarac 18 year old from 2006. Not sure what it will go for, but I've got to think 1000 today. I just can't see wanting to drink it.

I love bourbon. I like good bourbon. But there is a LOT of good bourbon that is less than 50 a bottle.

Capital city in Atlanta is hard to beat. Usually have eagle rare, weller and buff trace. Great prices as well
