WARCHANT Bourbon Thread

Have been slowly growing my stash. Currently at 41 bottles, mainly bourbon and ryes, but a few scotches.

EH Taylor Single Barrel and Weller Antique 107 have become my faves at the moment. But I can't seem to break away from Buffalo Trace and Sazerac Rye as those two bottles are $30 or less and always delicious.

Snagged a bottle of Whistlepig 10 Year and Angel's Envy Finished Rye over the past month, and excited to open them. Have had samples of both and though very different, both are very good.

Coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about nothing about bourbon..

I saw the pictures of his collection.. has he said, or has anyone ball parked how much money he has invested in that?

seems to be a lot! Lol

I tried one time to add but it's impossible...I mean just in Pappy Bottles on Aftermarket Prices he prollly has 25k as The Pappy 23 depending on the year sells for 3.5 to 7K alone

You are dead right about the BT & Sazerac, so good for so cheap. My favorite Rye is a 55 dollar bottle of Willet's 4 year rye.

Me and my "boys" drank my entire Pappy collection. It has taken some time to replace it all...

Boss Hog is different level. I have found several really good bottles that I thoroughly enjoy in that $30-60 slot, with really many of them better than some $80-100 bottles.

In all honesty, I am not "wowed" by Blanton's. I love the bottle, but the bourbon itself is just good. But that entire Buffalo Trace line is impressive.

And yes, the Piggyback is a good one for the price. I have 1.5 bottles left of it.

Woodinville Rye is another that I purchased recently that I have enjoyed so far too.

In that price range, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is awesome.

Yup. At about $55 here in Pcola.

Woodford's Rye and Wheat are impressive at $35 as well.

Heck, I have really enjoyed every High West bottle that I have ever tried too, and those are in that $35-60 range.

Do any of y’all freeze metal or stones? I used to get advertisements all the time on Facebook for those.

The huge ice ball molds as well.

I always drink it room temp...they looked interesting though.

I have been around a long time but am not aware of "the locker room".
The 1920 Prohibition Old Forrester is a great pour. But, be aware, it is around 120 proof...

115 proof is my current favorite and has a lot of flavor. They do make some lessor proofs as well. OF is easy to find and my local store always gets it when he orders. At a $60.00 price point it simply can not be beat.

Great setup @loutil!

And no @Ohio1nole...I have to idea what I have invested in mine. I almost don’t want to know. :Face with Tears of Joy
Thanks. We should compare lists as I am always looking to add good Bourbons. Have a cabinet guy making me a custom shelf as I am out of room. My goal is 200 different Bourbon's.

I have a buddy sitting on 5-8 bottles of every Pappy for like 15 years. He was into it when it still sat on shelves. I've personally had a bottle of 15 and 20. Opened one to celebrate the 2013 championship. Doubt I'll ever get another bottle because I'm not willing to pay secondary.

This has probably been responded to but yes the issue is it sells out immediately. It's a perfectly fine bourbon that is now vastly overpriced and hard to find.
Holy crap at the prices.

wasn’t it like 60 bucks just a few years ago?

I’m pushing around 300 currently. It would be way more than that, but I have a buddy I that I sell my partials of things I don’t like or just don’t drink very often to make me some room every once in a while. Quality over quantity, right??? ;)

You can still get it around $60, it just takes a lot of effort to find it or being in the right place at the right time. It’s a great bourbon at retail, but that’s about it. Same thing happened to Elmer T. Lee. It was a great bourbon for the retail price, but the boom has allocated it so it just isn’t worth the price you pay for it. Those bourbons were popular because you got a very high quality vs. the retail price. Not the case anymore.

Or both...
I have a shelf that only I pour from. Another shelf that only my Bourbon buddies can pour from. Then the bar area that is open to all. Quality and quantity ;).

Bravo... Just picked up an EHT ER and Blantons. All at the same shop! Been dying to try Stagg Jr.

Buffalo Trace much? ;):D

Stagg Jr has been a little hot lately. Well the last couple batches anyway. I need to pick up a couple more bottles on my travels. I’m down to about half a bottle. Been scarce lately, but that’s how it goes with those. You’ll find them here & there for a bit, you stock up, then they’ll disappear for a little while.

You can buy any current PVW23 for just a bit over 2k all day.

To show you how crazy bourbon is right now Weller Special Reserve flies off the shelves and it's a mixing bourbon if anything.

None of you mentioned the booze that Jimbo liked! I think I know why!!!

I have the Weller Full Proof and the 15 yr. A bit disappointed in the taste given what I paid for them.
Four Roses Small Batch is a great, well priced, drink and a must in any collection.

Definitely. So “Small Batch” is a blend of four bourbons and that is always on the shelf. I got “Small Batch Select” which is a special release and is a six bourbon blend. Keep your eye out!

Weller special reserve though is not that special and should not be confused with the other Weller pours, like Weller 12 year old which is absolutely great. Almost all Buffalo Trace products are really good to great, regardless of price. Buffalo Trace, the namesake brand usually around $30, is vastly better than most of the bourbon you see in bars and restaurants—like Woodford, Knob Creek, Angels Envy, etc, which are at best just ok. Eagle Rare is same mash as BT but aged 3 years longer. For non BT distillery products, Michters is very good. Jim Beam White is crap, period. jack daniels (which is bourbon but refuses to be called bourbon, went to court to block being labeled as bourbon) is okay when you are young, but once you get past 40, try moving on to the better stuff.

Barrel proof JD is absolutely delicious and if you tasted it blind you’d be shocked.

July hunting was good to me. Old Fitz 9 year, ETL, Weller FP and 12 year. I’ve been collecting for a few months more seriously now. Think I’m up to 65 bottles. Really enjoyed the photos and commentary above. Cheers fellas.
