Warning to people traveling to Tallahassee

On the original topic...I've never gone to Tally for a fine dining experience...its football all the way.
4Rivers BBQ (I did like Piggy's)
Momo's for pizza
Jason's Deli for soup/salad/sandwich
Corner Pocket for bar food and Mich Ultra
MadSo for bar food and fun
Applebee's for a hot hookup (KIDDING😂)
Hotel lobby for coffee and a bagel to go on the way home

That's not to say I haven't had a nice dinner at Cool Beanz or that Greek restaurant on Appalachee Parkway, or other places that have come and gone over the years like the Silver Slipper.

That little place in College Town that's a quirky combination of brewery, quick snacks, and convenience store called The Thirsty Professor is a fun stop. The beer selections are great. Sit up at the small bar and order an appetizer and a sampler flight. The staff is knowledgeable about the beer and the brewery and the appetizers were good. My son and I really enjoyed it.

We attempted Tallahassee fine dining for my kid’s graduation. I think we would have been equally as successful in Perry.

I know some people who'd rather stay in Perry rather than Tallahassee hotels for the weekend.
Yep, the stench originating on the south side of town has been really bad for a while now……...

Hobbit and a Dart Tourney is always fun. Chewy's for sustinence, and Cuban platers for 12 are good, too.
If you are not in a particular rush, the late night cuisine at McDonalds is a must. Or if you crave a midnight milkshake, you may get some schmuck to go get one for you. Applebees notorious back bar is now known as a hot corner. Often, I just like to eat at my discretion in my room.... at all hours of the day or night.

Well this thread took a turn...I hear ukulele music.
If there is any bubbles in the bath tub, then you have problems; regardless the direction of the wind.
Mr. Magaii says "Show me farts in succession."

i've pondered that before but i'd rather stay in Thomasville if i was staying outside of Tallahassee. I usually bring my dogs though so the Aloft has been ideal for us.

This probably doesn’t come as a complete shock but going out to eat right now is not the typical experience that most of us would like. Most of these restaurants are understaffed and the stuff that they do have is either very inexperienced or so ground down that they aren’t as efficient as a lot of us would prefer. I’ve had a handful of experiences since school got back in and each of them has had the same pattern of slow service missed requests and overall just a very poor experience. The food is usually good but everyone should check their expectations at the door somewhat as far as how brisk and complete everything will be for them. I’m a pretty easy-going guy so I don’t typically complain as these events unfold because I know that the industry is really important but struggling right now. Also, if you have Facebook I would suggest joining the Tallahassee foodies group because it does a really good job about highlighting all the different places which are quite numerous this far as the new ones that have opened up since the last time there was a game or even A game with close to full capacity like we’re gonna have this weekend
This is not unique to Tallahassee.. Your post is misleading.

Why the hate on island wings? We love the one in Tally. The owner is a great guy and big Nole fan.

I had the worst wings I’ve ever had at the one here in Jax. And I understand the owner is a Nole. That doesn’t excuse terrible food. They were slammed and had over an hour wait for a table. Maybe they weren’t ready for a huge football weekend.
I won’t go back. The hot food bar at Winn Dixie is even better!

Never been to that one. I’ve never experienced that at ours. It’s not fine dining but it’s good.

I see that you are a one and done food critic. Have you ever been to Momos for pizza? One night I grew a beard waiting for a lousy slice, but, alas, I later went back anyway; although they forgot to bring me my drink.... Was beginning to think Momos was in the Twilight Zone..... Just call me second chance Charlie.

Why would it be misleading?
When you say, "Warning to people traveling to Tallahassee," you suggest that there is something uniquely bad going on there. The problem that you described is happening all over the country, particularly in the hospitality industry.

I think you are being overly critical because it’s a more salient point given that:

Thousands of people were traveling here after not doing any traveling, including people that have never been here for a game

AND

what is unique about Tallahassee is our dependence on the student population to fulfill jobs in the service industry.

there is some other context as well that you might pick up on if you read the entirety of the thread

Also, misleading doesn’t make sense. That implies that I provided false information, or conjecture, when you just submitted that I’m telling the truth but that it isn’t….idk I can’t figure out how you’re applying your logic to it

Now that folks are heading out this morning I would like to hear if they went out to eat, where, and their experience.

And yes, we already know the McFlurry Machine is broken, thank you. 😂

Please stop with this ignorance. If minimum wage had kept pace with the growth of this economy, i.e. federal minimum wage would be over $20/hr. That’s the living wage in this country.
The economy grows for a number of reasons. Productivity increase is a big part of it. This has to do with the ability of an individual to do more work per unit of time. While productivity ON AVERAGE has been increasing, the productivity of minimum wage jobs has not. There is little you can do to increase the productivity of pushing a mop at closing time, taking orders at a fast food counter, or other similar entry level jobs. You have the nerve calling out ignorance with this claptrap.

That would be somewhat fair to say if there wasn’t such a large gap between the workers and the shareholders. I believe in the opportunity to invest, but I also believe companies and their shareholders should think about what that does to their workforce

Barnaby's is closed now because the owner couldn't find reliable staff to work the place.

I was told that all the Steak n Shake restaurants are only take out because they also can't find reliable staff.

Long haired freaky people are now encouraged to apply.
I got it...signs, signs everywhere a sign.

If even minimum wage earners have a 401K, THEY also become shareholders.
Your remarks don't make a whole lot of sense.

Okay, to clarify, when companies that have executives collecting massive sums for such little time investment, that to me is an issue. I recognize the concept has merit, but such an imbalance feels wrong to me. Shareholders in this sense I was meaning those whose sole involvement in the enterprise is to collect their earnings off of their investment but it wasn’t the best term to use

No. Sorry. You're mistaken.
Wow.

That's not(a main reason) why it closed.

Georgio’s on Appalachee.

not the best place in Tallahassee but the best available for the size of our party at that time.

it was very average by all counts.
I wouldn't consider Georgio's "fine dining" - more "classic" dining if that makes any sense. Tall booths, same menu as always, Mr. George walking around greeting people, maybe fine dining 20yrs ago but now we go there for consistency and to see Mr. George.
Same for Clusters & Hops.
Food Glorious Food, Sage, Backwoods Crossing, Kool Beanz have been around a while but rotate menus more.
Savour, Il Lusso, Lucilla are newer. Charlie Park and Eve on Adams are newer rooftop bars worth checking out also.
