"Now, most models are still showing modest precip -- on average, about .2 inches of liquid equivalent. But whether that falls as snow (about 2 inches worth), sleet (enough to cover the ground), freezing rain (a dangerous .1-.2 glaze of ice) or some combination of the three, it's enough to cause serious travel problems.

And if we end up in the .3-.4 range of liquid, the region will be severely impacted."

Precip is forecast to start after midnight. Soundings show some warm air aloft which would mean sleet changing to a snow / sleet mixture. TLH is on the western edge. There is a possibility if the moisture sticks around long enough there could be a coating to maybe 1/2". The better chance is NE of TLH and NW of JAX in south GA where there could be an inch. Farther inland west of the GA coast 1-3" is possible. New models come in this evening.

Nobody here in Tally has the knowledge or equipment to drive safely in snow. I have to imagine school return will be delayed, right?

Jax may get some of that funny looking stuff on the west side tomorrow as well. All I know is that it's cold and dreary here now.
I'm not looking forward to my electric bill.

I would put it as 99.9% chance they get cancelled in next 30 minutes:

The school board just re-tweeted this:

It's warmer in Tally (43) now than Jax (39), and our wind chill here is 29. My heat has been running continuously since yesterday afternoon, set at 71. Sweats and socks and hot chocolate y'all !

Leon County is cancelled. In a span of 4 months, Leon County has cancelled school for both snow and hurricanes. Crazy. I live out in Monticello and supposedly there's a good chance we see snow. I'm excited.

Doesn’t happen too often. Remember 03/02/1980, got a couple inches. It was a fun day for a student from Miami.

I remember the snow and the year but not the date. It snowed enough to go riding cardboard boxes down the hills. The next day was so cold the lock mechanism in my car door froze/locked up and I drove to campus that day and back by holding my door shut with my belt...

It was either that 1980 snow event or the one the year before where it snowed most of the day.

The 1989 Christmas Southeast Coastal Winter storm was a hoot. I-10 shutdown from Jacksonville to Pensacola. Almost an inch of snow. All houses had white roofs. It all melted by mid afternoon but it was fun seeing it. Very rare event in Tallahassee.

Crazy that Tally sees snow.

I have 25 inches of white powder on the lawn right now here in Michigan. Also we are checking in at comfortable 10 degrees!

Jax is shutting down quickly; private schools are closed and so is City Government.

It's stooopid cold. I had to break over 1/2" of ice out of water troughs this morning. I HATE cold weather!

I raise your cold freezing. Last 6 days in Chicago overnight temperatures have reached negative digits with wind chills around -30. Daytime highs have hovered in the single digits with wind chills around -10. Your water troughs would be frozen blocks of ice that would need a propane torch to thaw out. And that would last you about an hour before they re froze. You sir would not do well here.

That would be ma'am to you. ;) And you're correct. I would not do well in Chicago.

I remember that day very well. It was a Sunday and it had been crazy hot on Friday and rained like hell on Saturday and then Sunday it snowed for quite a while.

I lived in Salley Hall on the 7th floor and people were running around outside, many experiencing snow for the first time. Hard to believe that was almost 40 years ago.

Go Noles!

It might snow or sleet in Tallahassee. There will be many wrecks even if there's no snow or sleet.

I recall the fountain at Wescott being frozen for nearly a week- and we had snow flurries in Tally on St. Patrick's Day in the early 70's.

I had -24 this morning no windchill and have had snow for weeks and months to go so no sympathy here. Harden up lol.

My sincere apology, even questioned myself with the "sir" but figured I had a 50/50 chance. Late May thru mid October are absolutely delightful here, just gotta avoid those winter months.

I woke up to -15 actual temps here but do remember getting some snow in Tally back in 87-88. Oh how I can't wait to get back to the south. Looking for a sales job in the Tally area if anyone has connections?

Lived in Troy and then Rochester Hills for two years total while working in Detroit in the GM building. Changed my career path to never be that far away from the Keys and Florida again. On July 4th of 1986 or '87, we had a golf Tee-time of 7-7:30 am at a course in Troy that got pushed back by an hour or so due to frost on the greens. Unusual yes, but it happened.

In 1977 at Seminole High School in Sanford. There was a high school basketball game one night when it snowed. It didn't stick on the ground, but it did on cars. Someone burst in the gym and yelled, "It's snowing outside."
Everyone ran outside. The teams, referees, and all!
They are saying there is a chance Central Florida and Orlando may get a dusting Wednesday.

No problem! You had no way of knowing. I live in North Florida because it's where I was raised and I love it, but I went to school in Virginia. I have no desire to live where I have to shovel snow!

Evening GFS is in. For TLH: Precip will be a mix of sleet and freezing rain later tonight, changing over to sleet / snow mix or snow near the end. Jacksonville won't see much as the wind off the ocean will keep their temps warmer. N / W of Jacksonville may see some tomorrow AM.

I dunno, that sounds like a dumb place to be...

Only times I've lived where it snows annually I didn't have a choice in the matter.

Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire."
