FSU sports information:

The Florida State women’s swimming and diving team closed out the 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday night at the Jack Bauerle Pool at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.

Maddy Huggins and Phoebe Griffith contributed personal-best times and the 400 free relay turned in a season best to close the meet.

“It was a great week for us at NCAAs,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We had some best times. The ladies were a pleasure to coach, and they represented Florida State with passion and class.”

Fresh off her scoring performance on Friday, Huggins touched with a time of 2:08.73 in the 200 breast finishing tied for 19th, just shy of the consolation final (2:08.18).

Huggins still ranks second in FSU history behind the program record set by Nina Kucheran (2:08.57) in 2021.

Baseball James Tibbs III's bet on Link Jarrett to return to FSU in 2024 has paid off

After a great year on a bad team, James Tibbs III could have elected to leave the FSU baseball program last summer and transferred out.

His belief in Link Jarrett and desire to pay back the school that helped mold him led him to stay. That bet has paid off in a major way this season.

Las Vegas

Mrs. Knives has always wanted to go to Las Vegas. I have finally relented and we are going at the end of the month with 2 other couples who have already gone several times. I can’t really get excited about going as I don’t want to drink constantly (a couple is fine) and gambling to me is boring. This weekend we are getting together with the others to pick some shows (yaaaay 🙄). The Golden Knights are out of town when we are there. I am much more of a mountain/national park/cabin on the lake vacation guy. What shows do you recommend?

Alabama uses third-quarter push to halt FSU's season

Florida State’s season was undone in a disastrous third quarter.

Alabama outscored FSU by 12 in the third period and Essence Cody had 20 points and 14 rebounds in the Crimson Tide’s 82-74 on Friday in Austin, Texas, in the NCAA Tournament. It was the fourth straight year FSU has lost a first-round game.

Makayla Timpson had 23 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. A junior, Timpson now owns FSU’s single-season records for double-doubles (18) as well as rebounds (341) and blocks (87).

But FSU’s season came to an abrupt end yet again in the first round. Ta’Niya Latson led the Seminoles (23-11) with 25 points and five assists.

Cody had 10 points and five rebounds in the third quarter as Alabama outscored Florida State 23-11 to take a 63-51 lead.

Latson and Timpson scored nine each in the fourth quarter, leading a comeback for Florida State. But Timpson missed a shot inside with 1:02 remaining that could have left the Seminoles trailing by three points. Cody grabbed the rebound, and McQueen (13 points, six assists) started the procession to the free-throw line, making one of two.

“We've had plenty of games like that where we were right there and couldn't get it done,” Latson, a sophomore, said. “Knowing how to close out games, start to finish, that's going to be our focus next year.”

The Osceola is not on the scene in Charlotte, but will pass along any updates we see/hear and recap the day's proceedings once concluded.
