Situational football

Statistical we've outperformed 3 out of 4 teams we've played this year. So why are we 0-4? It's because Mike Norvell and Adam Fuller don't understand situational football at all. Mike Norvell and Dillingham are reactionary play callers and it's becoming more and more predictable. They love to go right back to the player who made a good play instead of going elsewhere to keep defenses guessing.

The 4th down calls when the game isn't on the line needs to stop now! 4th and 1 is the only time you go for it unless you are in a 2 minute situation to win or tie a game. Again he doesn't understand situations of a football. This is why this Norvell experience will never work and he can't be trusted hiring coaches either. We don't have the right QB's either unless Duffy is a hidden gem. And before you mention Purdy, he isn't performing well in practice at all and it's understandable why he's not getting in the game. He's simply not ready or talented enough at this point in his career.

Mr Organization

With every passing week, we see more and more evidence that our "organized" coach has constant disorganized moments

- Saturday I watched secondary players yell at the sidelines for quicker defensive calls
- I watched our WRs being VERY confused about whether they were supposed to line up on the LOS or off it at least 5 times
- We now hear our team doesnt have a pre-game routine to warm up
- Penalties pre and post-snap abound

I would like to know what "organized" means when I hear this word going forward descripting our coach.

Syracuse and our QB

There are no guaranteed wins on our schedule. Yes, I wrote that right. But, what I’m wondering is the QB tradeoff at Syracuse. On the one hand, it may well be that Milton gives you the best chance to get that win so you’re not 0-5. That seems pretty important because I wonder how much of our problems come down to guys not playing with confidence. How different would the season be if we win the ND game? Confidence can do a lot for a team. On the other hand, it seems like Syracuse is an opportunity to build for the future. If you have an inkling that you want to play Purdy later in the season, then shouldn’t you start playing him during this stretch with Syracuse, UMass, and a bye coming up? But if Chubba plays poorly you’ve basically signaled to your entire roster that we had to try this because we are playing for the future. Do some of the seniors check out if that happens? This seems like such a thorny question. Some make it sound so easy. There are tradeoffs here.

Personally I haven’t written off Travis. I think the young man can play much better than some posters on here would credit him. I just don’t think he’s healthy and I worry given his durability about game planning around him, especially considering what he does when at his best is unique and not replicable by the other QBs.

Warchant staff, like cheerleaders …they are PICKED and “PAID” TO PUMP…not PORTRAY !

…Like all cheerleaders, they are PICKED and PAID to PUMP and not to accurately portray “what is.” For cheerleaders, it’s easy to PUMP when facing the stands and fans, rather than the field and folly. Journalists, similarly, can choose to turn their backs on the field and failure; rather, finding fault at the feet of “the bogeyman” …CULTURE!
PENALTIES are ACTS OF COMMISSION, not omission. Thus, they are caused by a “lack of discipline “ …overcome ONLY by COACHED-DISCIPLINE This team, a product of its coaching staff, has become the conference “laughing stock.” GO ONTO OTHER TEAMS “BOARDS” LIKE WARCHANT AND READ !!!
Broken offensive routes and blocking assignments, quarterbackING as well as breakdowns on defense AND ESPECIALLY PENALTIES are CONTEMPORARY COACHING issues, not one of “pin the tail on a culture created by others.” Hell, if this team is so heavily SOPH AND FROSH laden, none of them ever played for CWT. Yet our pundits escape journalism and adopt a “yellow” format by placing the blame near exclusively at the feet of “culture caused by former coaches.”
Today, we get a look at Louisville who every one of our pundits, as with Jax State and soon to be Syracuse ….were “deemed to be wins for FSU.” WERE YOU “PUNDITS” BLINDED TO THAT “NASTY” CULTURE WHEN YOU PREDICTED WINS BACK THEN ? Wouldn’t it be super to get some courageous answers from them…WHY? Why were you all so confident of victories just weeks back? Why did so many of you write gobs of words proclaiming “THE NEW WORK ETHIC” is here and now only to see three games in…the penalties, blown assignments and the fact the quarterbacking “isn’t the best in…. “ but woefully unhealthy!
Perhaps you are nothing more than a bunch of journalistic CHEERLEADERS… a PACK OF PUMPERS WITH PENS, not megaphones! Hope not!

Ok so the big question is

aside from who called the plays on D in the 2nd half, how do we take the positives from yesterday, apply them next week, and turn it into a win? Our mistake against ND from CMN on down to the walk-ons was that we should’ve easily beaten JSU based on how close the ND game was.

That failed.

So, how do we get the kids to keep playing hard every down, every play? Continue to play pretty clean with few egregious penalties, lilt turnovers? Yesterday we only had one, which of course was bad in the sense that we didn’t have chance to tie, but Hail Mary passes are low percentage passes.

In short, how do we take the last 2.5
quarters and turn them into a full game next week?

The Mighty SEC

I believe there ability to cherry pick “big name” programs that add huge value is going to eventually kill the ACC. Yes the ACC might survive playing little boy football but no one will really care. I’ve seen posts on here about the SEC not having huge television markets. I’ve seen posts on here that the SEC can not unilaterally go it alone. I’ve seen posts on here that FSU won’t be hurt. Friends I believe FSU has been hurt and has not seen the worst of the hurt financially. FSU is in the geographic heart of the SEC and will be on their knees begging a way out of this nightmare. FSU has not kept up with the ever changing landscape of the money driver which is football. We pinned our future on the fools on Tobacco Road (ACC CONFERENCE) to keep us afloat with the horrible TV contract. There are going to be those on here that will argue the weaknesses of the SEC; I say ok but the consistency across all sports in the SEC is better and has a brighter future. The landscape has changed, the game has changed, the sources of revenue has changed. All that is left is for two to four more big names programs not named FSU for the final nail in the coffin to be complete. My major comparison is UF because my family is intimately involved with finances there. It takes money across many levels to succeed. I hate the thought of the almighty dollar because it consumes us so often. It though is the main driver for big time college athletics though and don’t forget it!

Screw it. I watched the Ryder Cup

I'm tired of and embarrassed by the clown show. At least now that we're 0-4, we don't have to keep saying things like, "This is our worst start since (fill in the year)," because from now on we can just say "....since 1973," regardless of how many games we eventually lose. For those of you who aren't as ancient as I am, '73 was a bad year for Nixon and the Seminoles----President Nixon went 0 for Watergate and we went 0-11. It was my first year of grad school and I sat in the stands for every home loss, including the last one where we were all singing "Good-bye, Larry! Good-bye, Larry. Good-bye, LARRY. We're glad to see you go."

But, bad as this year's team is, we have seen (very) brief sparks of lucidity and even competence. The '73 squad by comparison was totally hapless. But still, those sparks are too brief and too few to beat anyone on our major CFB schedule. Now I did switch over a couple of times yesterday and I noticed a change in our 3rd down strategy. Instead of turning 3rd and one into 4th and four like we have been, yesterday we merely turned 3rd and four into 4th and four with horrendous play calling and inept execution. But hey, that's progress. Let's see......who do we lose to next Saturday. :(

Purdy a four star recruit, is he not a better option

Travis will never be a quarterback and will continue to get hurt. Milton makes way to many mistakes. Purdy should be ready, been here two years to learn the playbook.

Are we missing something? It’s not a good sign to not start Purdy. You don’t repeat the same old shit. Design your game plan around Purdy and lets get on with it!

Field position and 4th down tries

I know I have heard reporters ask about 4th down tries near 50 in our territory many times. But, going for it pretty much every time is killing our opportunities to pin the opponent back and starting our next possession with good field position. Yes our d hasn't done that on the few tries the coaches have given them, but we could work on improving that. Bobby and Micky loved playing field position, can we ask Norvell why he seems to refuse almost all opportunities to do so? Coach needs to learn from mistakes too.

Grasping at 2nd half Straws

The team going into the locker room at halftime with a comfortable lead returns with a different mindset than those losing by that margin. Everyone points to the 2nd half or 4th quarter performance by FSU in those games for a ray of hope that the team is improving, when in fact, it’s the other team taking their foot off the gas pedal that accounts for that scenario. Just my opinion for whatever that’s worth.

Great Crowd Yesterday

I’ll have to say that as bad as this team is, and it’s painful to watch sometimes, for the most part the crowd stayed and cheered them on.

There was a decent student crowd until it got out of hand in the second quarter. It got as loud as you could expect for a crowd of 60k or so. I just feel for that crowd. They want to win. You can hear they are doing their part. Norvell can not ask for any more support than he’s getting for the product on the field.
