2016 Braves Thread

18 trades on the deadline day yesterday and I don't think any involved the Braves. Shocking!

Coppy said that they didn't get offered the value they wanted for any of the players.Good for him for only wanting to rip off other teams.Several players could be moved in waiver deals or in the winter.

It tells me that we have crap to offer at this point but Freddie and Julio. A lot of those guys will get traded in the fall for more prospects. Not that we will get a lot for them but you will see them dump the remaining payroll as soon as they can. I think they hope all this young talent can develop quick and then they will have the money to sign them all to long term deals when they are proven.

Cervenka and Johnson definitely have value to contenders. You saw what relievers were going for yesterday and before. Cervanka has 5 or 6 years of control, so, I'm sure Coppy wanted above his actual value. Most of the tradeable assets were gone before yesterday though: Harrell, Alvarez, Norris, Johnson, K. The most likely that the front office wanted to move were hurt recently and had diminished values (Beckham and Vizcaino). Still, Beckham, Johnson, J, Frenchy (if they want to move him), and maybe a few others would clear waivers and can get moved. The front office wasn't in a hurry to make a deal yesterday.

I'm not sure if the plan will be long term deals, Liberty Media will have to show that they will commit money to the franchise as they have yet to do that after the last round failed with Upton and Uggla getting big deals and flopping, and then having to trade the viable long term deals of Kimbrel and Simmons to offload and restock the farm. Upton, J. and Heyward weren't offered big deals, so, we'll have to see the approach next time the team has potential free agents.

Not sure his talent outweighs his immaturity.

Braves could reportedly pursue Yasiel Puig

Yasiel Puig has likely played his last game for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and one team that might be able to afford taking on the restoration project is the Atlanta Braves.

According to a report by Jim Bowden of ESPN on Thursday, the Braves could explore a pursuit of the mercurial outfielder. Since they currently have the worst record in the league, Atlanta would have first priority in a potential waiver claim of Puig should the Dodgers place him there. Bowden also notes that if that effort fails, the Braves may consider trading a mid-level pitching prospect for the Cuban defector.

Puig, 25, was recently demoted to the minor leagues by the Dodgers after their acquisition of outfielder Josh Reddick at the trade deadline. They have long been open to dealing away Puig, and the Braves have a void at the right field position (aging veterans Nick Markakis and Jeff Francoeur notwithstanding) and not a lot to lose.

There is obviously significant risk that comes with adding Puig, especially considering how his performance on the field (he’s batting just .258 in his last two seasons combined) no longer allows for his foolhardy behavior off it to be tolerated. But Puig is the very definition of a buy-low guy right now, so the Braves might find a dice roll on him to be a decent enough investment.

Last I heard he can not get along with anyone. I am not sure they would want to run the risk of adding a locker room cancer to the team.

Big mistake IMHO.

Atlanta earned their 4th straight win with a 2-1 victory over the Brewers. Impressive performances from starter Tyrell Jenkins and Mauricio Cabrera getting his 3rd save with a strikeout on a 102mph fastball! Where did we get this kid?

I am becoming a big fan and it is crazy to see that 102 on the jug. I would love to try to take a swing at one of those pitches but would miss by a mile.

Braves still last in MLB but second in the NL in the last 10 games W/L at 7-3. I expect much better play from here on out. Of course I have been fooled before so there is that.

International free agent in 2010, from Dominican Republic.

Luckily, the Twins are also 7-3 in the last 10, and the #1 pick is still secure, don't want to win too many games and mess up the draft position.

'81-'85? You should've been a fan in the '60's and '70's!

ATLANTA -- Dansby Swanson has received his much-anticipated call to the Majors and is expected to be in the lineup when the Braves play the Twins at Turner Field on Wednesday night.

After trading shortstop Erick Aybar to the Tigers on Tuesday, the Braves created the roster spot necessary for Swanson to begin his Major League career. The 22-year-old suburban Atlanta native ranks as baseball's No. 5 overall prospect according to MLBPipeline.com.

Full Game Coverage
Swanson was taken by the D-backs with the first overall selection in the 2015 MLB Draft and was traded to the Braves in the blockbuster deal that sent right-hander Shelby Miller to Arizona in December. The sure-handed shortstop has hit .261 with a .745 OPS over 84 games for Double-A Mississippi after beginning the year with Class A Advanced Carolina.

2-4, solid debut for Dansby. The Swansons are a great family, couldn't be happier for them. I know Dansby's brother (we went to law school together) and this could not be happening for a better young man and just a wonderful family.

I now seriously doubt we can keep from breaking the century mark in losses. The next hope is that we don't break any records.

I heard that at one of his tryouts he fielded a ground ball and attempted to throw the runner out at first, but the ball was intercepted and returned for a td.

And I'm with DFS--I've loved the Braves since I was a kid listening to them on WSUN out of St. Pete, but they're dead to me if that poser becomes one of them.

42-70 as of last night. Can they finish at least 21-29 to avoid 100 losses?
Braves should give a refund to every season ticket holder this season for the lousy product they put on the field.

I wonder if the Arizona front office moved to the first floor (to keep from jumping out the window) after that Shelby Miller for Swanson/Ender Inciarte/ Blair trade lol.

First home win for Teheran and it only took the end of August. Braves now tied with the Twins for worst record and the Twins are in a 12 game losing streak. For the rest of the season, the Twins play teams in contention for the playoffs except for the White Sox. So, the Braves may lose the top spot in the draft for next year. Such an exciting finish to the season for the Braves when it comes to draft position, do they reach 100 losses, and the September call-ups. Well, I'm trying to make it interesting...
