Arrest made in FSU Law Prof Dan Markel murder case

Willie Meggs is such a bitch... He just can't resist any chance to take a jab at TPD...

Can he just please go away already?

How about you just shut your trap for once?

SFNole

Spot on. Meanwhile, this buffoon remains fixated on prosecuting FSU football players for minor offenses (or no offenses at all). Thank you, Leon County electorate, for giving this clown a 6-figure lifetime pension. Incredible.

Nice write up about the whole matter in the Tallahassee Democrap the other day. Specifically goes into the divorce and events leading up to his death.

What struck me in the write up is she was legally saying that he was trying to hurt her career by telling people she was mentally ill/crazy. Sounds like he may have been right. These tapes make it seem even more. Completely self absorbed.

Reading about this story reminds me of a murder of a post graduate student in California who was shot and killed by his father in law when the guy went outside after his mother in law rang the doorbell and left a potted plant outside and the guy step out to get the plant. He was in a bitter custody battle with his wife over his daughter in a divorce case. Wife tried to accuse him of molesting his daughter which the court rejected the accusation. Wife was the one who pushed her Dad and Mom to assist in her husband's murder

That turned out to be a sick case. The father-in-law died in prison of a brain tumor, he was smiles when he thought the judge would release him. The mother-in-law was worse, just flat out stupid and evil. She claimed she had amnesia in prison so she tired to get release on mental grounds. Didn't work, she got life. The ex wasn't charged but she lost custody of the child to his parents and a few years ago California took away her parental rights..

So that evil twisted witch and her evil parents murdered the husband because they didn't want to share custody and ended up with her parents rotting in prison and her being taken out of her daughters life....classic..

Seems like the prosecutors are on Plan B: See if arrest of hit men prompt family to talk on wiretaps. Plan C will be offer sweet deal(s) to hitmen to roll on family. If no one talks, the family walks.

Well that opens things up a bit. I hope FDLE is looking at the family's patients and accounting for the prescriptions they wrote.

You'd hope especially since I work in this area. One of the main supply of street benzos and opiates is now coming from dentists and veterinarian (the druggies just go grab a sick old dog and cat, the meds are basically the same). It's still not as much as regular MDs and DOs but it's becoming a growing and mostly untouched by law enforcement and regulatory problem.

Pretty chilling to watch him walk out of Premier, get in his car and then see the Prius glide out after him not long before his death. Most interesting to me is the evidence they tried in June and got spooked by Rental Company pinging their GPS on their way up because the knuckleheads were trying to be cheap and rented a car that was suppose to be for local use. Also interesting the dialogue is really shifting to flat out implicating Brother and her Mom.

Very chilling. Watching that made me feel sick. Pretty twisted knowing what you are watching.

The people responsible look like they were idiots and it's likely going to be what ends up puting them behind bars, at least I hope.

don't intend to invest a half hour listening to the ex wife, but what is that link exactly? is it a confession or a creative writing class?

Yeah. Allegedly a creative writing class, but it basically works as a confession as far as I'm concerned. She could not have cared less about her husbands death just how his death inconvenienced her.

It's worth a listen. Hard to explain how this cold hearted bitch can actually come off as a cold hearted bitch psychopath from just our description. Late ex, latex husband?

It's pretty clear at this point that the police have little or no evidence as to who ordered the hit. Their entire case will rise or fall on the testimony of the trigger-men. I'm guessing a very sweet deal is in the works for whoever wants to roll.

I'm not sure I would agree they have no evidence. I think they do, just not all they need to make this pretty airtight. That's a family with financial resources and some legal savvy. I would think that the police are being strongly advised not to go there unless they've got plenty of facts on the case ready to go.

New police interview video with ex-wife hours after his death released with some interesting details. I watched it a couple times. I actually am thinking maybe she did not do plot or know about this hit now. But also 100% am sure her brother / family did:

"Adelson then recalled an eyebrow-raising phone conversation with her brother Charlie earlier that day, as they were discussing what to do about a television he bought her that had broken down.

“And I was talking to him about whether it made sense to pay to fix it or I should get a new one,” she said. “And it was always his joke that, like, he knew that Danny treated me badly, and it was always his joke, he said, I looked into hiring a hit man but it was cheaper to get you this TV.”"

I am not sure why she would bring this up if she was a part of hitman plot...does not make sense at all and it almost seems to slip out in her moments of shock maybe?.
But also hearing it and then two years later knowing the two hitman were linked with Charlie makes it clear he was more than joking.

I can only wonder however if maybe what she does not say here is that after brother makes that joke, she maybe laughed and even said something to the affect of "that would be fine by me!"

Her statement about her family being surprised was a tad chilling too and suggests, again, she perhaps knew her family was plotting (and encouraged it). Sociopaths can be incredibly manipulative after all.

I'm really not sure what to think about all of this. It wasn't as incriminating as I was hoping, but it's clear to me that the defense doesn't have enough to really connect the family for a conviction. They need another party to roll over and rat them out, and I don't think that's gonna happen.

Is the ex-wife hot? I can't tell. In some pictures she looks very plain, and in a few she looks smoking hot, and in most she looks law school hot (which is real world 5 or 6). If I can get some confirmation on this, then it will go a long way to whether or not I think she is guilty.

According to my friends, I actually met her once when I was a judge of a moot court competition at FSU but I don't remember anything about her one way or the other. So she didn't make an impression on me. So I would guess law school hot at best.

Yeah, but if they can track money changing hands, they may still have a great case with what they have. I do think given as the brother is the number 1 Family suspect, the testimony from the ex-wife that she had a phone conversation with said brother THAT DAY and he said ""I looked into hiring a hit man but it was cheaper to get you this TV" is pretty damning. As is her immediate reaction of "scared someone maybe did this – not because they hate Danny but because they thought this was good somehow" (translates family member helping her out of situation). Basically I would think a prosecutor can show the first thoughts she had as to who could have killed him was a family member(s) and specifically it was her brother...who said he looked into hiring a hit man...that very day hours before his murder.

Hmmm, that hurts her credibility a little.
