Braves 2021

Clear video that he missed the plate at the 1:28 mark at this link. There was even a better replay from center field that showed he clearly missed the plate. I hope this gets the replay official disciplined by the league unless there is some vague ruling about blocking the plate. It isn't very clear since that rule was changed a few years ago and there was no announcement other than the on-field ruling was confirmed.

"At first glance, it looked like Bohm beat the tag from Braves catcher d’Arnaud. Home-plate umpire Lance Barrett called Bohm safe, making it the Phillies’ shallowest sacrifice fly since Statcast began tracking outfield depth in 2015. The second-shortest? Andrew Knapp scored from third on a 236-foot fly ball to left field in Miami in July 2017, when Ozuna played for the Marlins." ... Yikes!

Ironically, 2017 is the year Marcell Ozuna won the Gold Glove for LF.

Is Will Smith the answer as closer? 0-2, 2 saves, 6.75 ERA.

I benched him on my fantasy team, not ready to drop him yet. The irony is I was able to pick up Melancon on the waiver wire the first week and he's been great.

Bullpen gives up five walks, one hit and two runs in the top of the eighth ... tie game .... pitiful.

Pitiful is the word that comes to mind about last nights relief pitching performance.

Yes, the bullpen stinks....But how underwhelming has Dansby Swanson been for a former #1 overall pick?? He's a momentum killer in the middle of the lineup. 🙁

He seems to be improving a little bit each season even though he has started out slow this year. I think he will turn it around soon.

Couple of thoughts, albeit maybe a little irrational due to the slow start.

1. Why didn't AA make a move to strengthen the bullpen? Obviously Martin being injured put a damper on things but there just isn't much depth. Will Smith has been awful, Luke Jackson being the first one in relief multiple games is not ideal. Hopefully Sean Newcomb continues to pitch well but history says otherwise.

2. Ozuna , Swanson and Albies starting off cold have really hurt, both guys need to get going. Would like to see Freeman bat 2nd like last year.

3. Austin Riley is not the answer at 3rd, at this point he's an automatic K.

4. Last 2 nights have been frustrating, with the blown call against Philly and then Ender not being able to get a bunt down.

Still think this team puts it together and wins the East.

Some of you guys get your wish!! Freddie is batting in the #2 spot in the order and Austin Riley is not in the lineup.

What is going on with Max Fried? Hit batters on 0-2 counts, 8 runs on nine hits!

Miami averaging less than 3 runs per game .... Braves gave up 5 last night and 8 already tonight.

Rick Kranitz has a well documented history in sucking as a pitching coach. I expect him to be fired sometime this season. Or maybe I'm just dreaming.

Morton struggling tonight.... Ozuna becoming a liability in the field ... four starters batting below .200 with Ender batting a woeful .091 ... Duval having a great series

Unless things get turned around, the Braves will be sellers this season. 🙁

We can start winning again and the bottom of the lineup has my permission to not suck.

"If it were not for bad luck, we have no luck at all" ~

Fried who was struggling now on the 10 day DL with hamstring issues.

Fried's hamstring is another argument for the DH in both leagues. I never thought I'd be in favor of it but now I am. Some of these veterans can still really hit but struggle to play a position. The Braves would be better in LF and we've already seen what a difference that can make.

Maybe just maybe replacing Darren O'Day, Shane Greene and Mark Melancon with Nate Jones, Luke Jackson and Grant Dayton wasn't the best of moves. Zero faith in any arm coming out of the pen to throw a clean inning.

Ozuna has been a liability but we knew that coming in, didn't think it would be this bad.

Batting averages ... I know its still early but ...

Ozuna .178

Allies .159

Swanson .156

Pache .133

Freeman and Riley are barely over .200 .... And then there's Acuna at a whopping .447!

Albies and Ozuna seem like they have been getting better contact lately, just bad luck with balls hit hard right at fielders. I'm not sold on Pache yet. Swanson will always be a 7 or 8 hitter to me. I'm almost ready to see what Drew Waters can do in CF or make a deal for another outfielder.

I am surprised Ender can not seize this opportunity although he has been known to start slow at the plate in years past. I'm not sure they are willing to be very patient with him and puzzled they brought him back.

Just what the Braves need .... another light-hitting outfielder.
Apparently he's the only OF on the 40 man roster that is available. I think I'd rather have Camargo play RF and move Acuna Jr. to CF for now.

The BP did their job tonight. One of my part-time employees grew up outside of Chicago and is a life long Cubs fan. She was telling me a few days ago how awful the Cubs were playing so far this year. Hopefully we can get 3 wins here and get some of the lineup hitting again. Ozzie really needs to play tomorrow but that hit on the shin is going to be all kinds of sore tomorrow. Looks like as Ender was starting to warm up at the plate and pulls a hammy, smh.

It might be interesting to see what the Panda does if he plays more.

I saw no plate blocking whatsoever, and, as noted, the confirmation seemingly did not depend on anything like that. It just seems like another example of botched baseball umpiring.
