The coronavirus appears to have conflicting trends. The daily infections detected are on a continuous rise, and the daily deaths are on a continuous decline. Do you think it is because:

We are getting better at treating people with the virus,
The virus is mutating into a weaker form of itself or
There is a Seasonal effect,
Other......

I think we are getting better at treatment and/or it is weakening but I am not a doctor and I haven’t sept at a Holiday Inn Express in a long time.

I think it (more cases) is a direct correlation to more testing occurring and deaths are trending downward because a positive test isn’t as dire as was predicted in March. I’m pretty sure hospitalizations are down as well. We’ll probably see some spikes after the last week or two, but that is purely conjecture.

More testing is why the number of positives is higher. The percent positive from the tests, is dropping every day

Some promising news out of Italy.

Like it or not, I do think that the SIP that so many of us followed had a very significant effect on breaking the chain of transmission. So, good for us.
I don't think we'll have a solid and reliable "post-mortem" as to the actual reasons for several months, but an important part of this is not to completely let our guard down. Continue with the hand washing, distancing, and understanding that still wearing a mask in places like grocery stores is a helpful action.

I’m not sure what sense it makes that the virus has mutated to a weaker version of itself. I’m not a virologist, so someone please correct me, but wouldn’t the virus mutate in an effort to stay viable and alive? Not make it easier to kill. I think lower death rates are probably due to better treatment and vulnerable populations being better protected.

I am not a doctor or a virologists, but I know some people in the medical industry who are very familiar with these things and I asked them this exact question. And their response is that viruses often grow less potent through mutation. Some mutations are in response a damaging condition, and they mutate to survive not to become more deadly.

Interesting. That would be great if that’s what’s happening. I’m starting to allow myself to dream of fans at football games.

I'd expect a huge shot UP in positive cases, due to thousands of protesters, looters, a d rioters not adhering to social distance rules and mask wearing. Wonder how many innocent people will die from coronavirus deaths now.....

One's transmission is vital. The pistons are crucial for overall success as well.

More testing it being done (so positives are just about guaranteed to go up). Less people are dying because it's not as deadly as we were originally told. Plus, people who are more susceptible are taking extra precautions.

I honestly think my family had this stuff at Christmas. It was rough, but we recovered.

I'm going back to my little part time job tomorrow. I'll be wearing a mask for sure.

I threaten the kids with wearing this if they don't behave.

No question positives are going up because of more testing and yes positive percentages are going down daily which is very good. I think deaths going down could be for the same reason. You had to be pretty sick to get tested at one time. That is not the case now. I hope the severity of the bug is decreasing but I think at this point that is overly optimistic.

Same. My Fiance and I had a terrible nagging cough and trouble breathing for about a month around Christmas time. Doctors didn't know what it was as it wasn't flu or pneumonia. We are guessing it was Covid.

Florida cases increasing. Still think it’s too soon to say what the real effects of social distancing relaxation and the riots have on it. Couple weeks away from seeing the outcome of that. My guess is not good. Wearing an n95 mask sure is difficult though. Not looking forward to having to do it over many months.
State of FL has been open now for over a month with no deleterious effects. Numbers are mostly static, hospitals nowhere even close to being over run. You can prob take off that N95 mask unless you’re in a high risk group.

This aged like milk and it's only one hour old. Go have a look at the recent trends. We are trending up and hit our highest number of confirmed cases so far yesterday.

All viruses attenuate and weaken over time:

Dr. Ramin Oskoui, a cardiologist and CEO of Foxhall Cardiology, reacted to a study that found a new coronavirus mutation reportedly mirrors a change that occurred as the SARS virus began to weaken, saying, “it’s well-known that as viruses progress, they typically mutate to weaker forms.”

“The phenomenon is known as ‘Muller’s Ratchet,’” Oskoui said

He added that this is “virology 101.”

“This is how they go away. They typically mutate, as well as herd immunity, to attenuate weaker strains that no longer make people so ill,” Oskoui continued.

Oskoui made the comments reacting to a study conducted by Arizona researchers, which was published in the online version of the Journal of Virology.

Lead study author Dr. Efrem Lim, a virologist and an assistant professor at Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute, and his team use a new technology to read through all 30,000 chemical letters of the SARS-CoV-2 genome, or genetic code, The New York Post reported, adding that the technology helps researchers determine how the virus is spreading and mutating over time.

The percent positives are declining. That is a fact. Another fact is that when you test more, you find more cases. But the facts that truly matter are that percent positives are on the decline, as well as hospitalizations and deaths.

You can only view this on a computer as it won't load on a phone. This is the dashboard for the State of Florida and every single county's cases of percent testing positive, hospitalizations, and deaths are on the decline:

Confirmed cases are a product of more testing. Who cares? Tell me about our crumbling healthcare or deaths? It’s been a month so I’m sure we’re out of ventilators and building makeshift tent hospitals all over, right? Same with GA I’m sure.

Well, don't forget the rise in positive cases from all the Memorial Day gatherings not adhering to social distancing rules and wearing a mask. Wonder how many innocent people will die from COVID19.

As long as the public vitriol and condemnation is the same now as it was then, you're right.

Problem is, I don't think it's been the same now as it was then, or when all those selfish, dumb kids kept partying on the beaches in FL.

I hope accurate antibody tests come to market quickly....my mom passed away in a Broward County nursing
home in late December....cause of death...pneumonia....her living will ruled out intubation or a vent...I’ve wondered for weeks/months....but we’ll never know. Worth noting, her nursing home has lost at least twenty since Covid 19 testing, one of the worst in the state. I had the crud in the weeks following....upper respiratory, but I have never been symptomatic since testing became available for the masses, so I never got a diagnostic test....I want an accurate antibody test.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I truly am. My condolences to you and your family. Several nursing homes in the surrounding counties were decimated by it. I work with a lot of Active Adults in luxury ‘retirement’ (misnomer… some of the busiest and active people I’ve ever met). It’s been hard on them. I actually had time to prepare for this. One of my sellers was a medical professor at Emory University and she wouldn’t let her dad get on a flight to NewYork ( this was February). The Closing attorney and I asked if it was that serious. She told us that certain high risk groups could be severely impacted. We were stocked up before the hoarding started.

Keep safe. And hopefully we will get those tests soon.

This thing was never as deadly as we were told except for a certain part of the population. That being old people and those with some existing health condition.

Ive been following the Georgia numbers since well before The state opened up and every stat that matters has been going down for weeks. Number of people currently in the hospital and rolling average of daily deaths. That’s all I care about.

We killed the economy and ruined lives when we could have had a more targeted response early on. This whole thing was one worldwide bad decision after another.

I realize that OP doesn’t want to get political, but it’s hard to avoid that. I’ve watched small businesses be destroyed. I’ve watched massive wealth redistribution and the middle class be plundered. I’ve watched corporate socialism programs try to help capitalism (something we haven’t truly had in this nation—except for small business—for decades). The whole response was insanity. And commercial real estate is about to bring the house of cards down.

I ignore what the politicians—on both sides of the aisle—proclaim the stated objective of a policy is. Instead, I sit back and watch what the outcome truly is. The end result. Because that’s the real purpose of the policy.

Like I mentioned early on...the response to it had taken on a life of its own.
I can even give a pass at the beginning...no one really knew so better to be over cautious. As info came out on who really was at risk...that the response didn't become more targeted to those...no we kept everyone and everything on lockdown...

This should open up some eyes and SHOULD change everything....like lock downs, social distancing, masks etc.

From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual,” Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, said at a news briefing from the United Nations agency’s Geneva headquarters. “It’s very rare.”
