COVID booster shot

My physician says my natural immunity should be sufficient and the government shouldn't be playing the role of physician.
If you've had covid recently then it should be sufficient. If it's been over a year then it's likely not sufficient.

Maybe you should consult your primary care physician. This isn’t that complicated.
I haven’t had a primary care physician until very recently. I have yet to see my primary care physician. It really wouldn’t make a difference to me in my decision. I have done a lot of research myself. I don’t trust the CDC in any way at all so if they are pushing it then I reject it.

I had the vaccine but ill pass on the booster unless they mandate that as well.

We subsidize alot more than just fat people.
Understood, but I was replying to this specific question…

“Healthy are penalized how because of obesity?”

We subsidize many other groups..smokers, etc.

The healthy are routinely penalized by any group that either over burdens or fails to have insurance. Even though healthy people don't utilize their health care as often they are penalized through higher costs and availability of care.

We already know it wanes. We also know that all the vaccines were weaker against Delta, which led to infections. Pfizer is extremely effective against Alpha but was much weaker at preventing infections by Delta but still very effective at preventing severe disease and death. Now that Delta is burning out hopefully we can get back to normal with a less serious Alpha or variant hanging around.

It doesn't say that it wanes. It says it "may" wane. We know it wanes generally.

Regardless, Delta was the dominant variant for most of the time of the study. The study does not seem to discriminate between variants. We know Delta is more likely to infect someone that has the vaccine or antibodies after recovering from alpha. Delta is on it's way out now so we'll see if it's results are true for other variants but for alpha vaccines are great. Delta helps prevent infection but still happens and is great against severe disease and death. I think that's all we can really say.

Always important to have a Physician that agrees with your political view.
What are you trying to say, that doctors would only suggest you not get vaccine if they’ve have the virus for political reasons? I have talked to over 20 doctors about this. My own and many I deal with professionally. Only ONE of them even said it was a choice and fine to get. All the others told me there’s no reason to get vaccine if you’ve had covid. Maybe later, but they all oppose strongly the message being send that we should just indiscriminately vaccinate people without regard to NI status.

I think the important question is whether you've "recently" had covid. I don't know if it's still the case but individuals could not even get the vaccine until enough time passed from an active infection. If a doctor is suggesting that if you've had it there is no need to ever get the vaccine after you've been infected then I'm not sure they're paying attention to the studies necessarily.

If anyone that was infected truly wants to know if they should get it the best answer is to get an antibodies test and see what the results are, take those to the doctor and then discuss.

100% this. There are people who have DEAD friends who had COVID and recovered...they thought they'd acquired immunity...it came back and killed them. Why in the heck wouldn't they just get the dadgum shot and be done?

Bet that number is lower than those who’ve had the shot and later got it and died. What matters is all the studies to date show NI is robust. More than the vaccine.

There may be a time when a vaccine is suggested after a time (though I will not be taking any more shots) but that’s not the case yet. The failure to address what science says about NI when dealing with policy makes me doubt everything they say.

I want to propose an alternative theory:
We know that all vaccines and boosters have shown to be initially effective at preventing infection and lowering viral load if infected (thus preventing likelihood of transmission) for all VOCs. We know that COVID vaccine efficacy will sit at roughly that of a flu vaccine after 6 months due to general waning of immunity from infection over time. We also know that the time period of initial studies regarding vaccine efficacy in the real world coincided with the emergence of the delta variant worldwide. I don't believe the delta variant can escape COVID vaccines. Instead, I think the people being studied were more likely to be infected because it had been about 6 months since vaccination and efficacy had waned.

Yep reinfections have been occurring, and they are likely to become more common as time goes on. Like all other coronaviruses that infect humans, immunity is likely to wane in a very short amount of time, relatively speaking. One study suggests that immunity after infection from SARS-CoV-2 may last half as long as immunity after infection of other coronaviruses.

You may find this study interesting.

Recent Harvard study found that vaccination rate has no effect on covid spikes.

I saw that. And I’m processing. I have more to read on adults. I don’t think it’s an easy call. But I think things tip toward it being a good idea. With kids I just have issues seeing it.
I see the utility for those who haven’t had covid and those in a vulnerable group. It may just be the vaccine guards against covid extremes.
But we’re getting to a point where some therapeutics may work quite well. The questions everyone had at the beginning of covid, e.g., what you to do if you have covid, what to monitor, when to go to the hospital, etc., were never really answered, and that’s likely contributed to a significant portion of severe cases

Well that was what the data showed. He did not like it. The takeaway is he admits the numbers don’t support that it’s working well, but says vaccines are good to use with other precautions like distancing and masks, which also have no data to show they really work.

It's what we already knew. Vaccines are not super effective against preventing infection against Delta. They are great at preventing severe disease or death. Vaccines are very effective against Alpha because that's what they were designed for.

here's a link to the latest british vaccination report. pages 13-16 provide the key data.

ultimately at a combined 90% vaccinated, britain's most vulnerable group, those age 50 and older, have reduced their share of covid deaths by 1% from previously accounting for 96% of all covid deaths pre vaccine and now are a hair under 95% at 94.95% of all current covid deaths.

But are all deaths going down? I’m wary of studies. If all are vaccinated then all deaths are of vaccinated. But if total numbers are down that’s what matters.

peak US deaths commence in October and top out between the first and second week of January each year so we probably won't really know the answer to that until then?

Fair. I’m just saying we can’t see value of vaccine just by looking at percentage of bad cases or deaths that are vaccinated.

Everybody is an "expert" and have "done their research." So many insecure well meaning people (including some doctors and many unhinged pastors) HAVE to believe in anti-government conspiracies; others have authority issues and simply will not be told what to do. Others have to be the smartest guy in the room and insist on winning the argument and NEED to outfox the virus. And then you have ignorance, emotional immaturity, indifference, the need for attention, and the need to be "different." Mistrust of government "tyranny" and misplaced distorted beliefs as this is the Mark of the Beast; my "favorite" excuse. And so many people love and NEED to argue. The argument itself meets many other unconscious needs for others. Common sense is no longer common.

Any room in there for legitimate difference of opinion, NOT related to one's politics, emotional issues, intelligence, personality traits, etc.?
