HOA Haters - Found You a Hero

Coincidentally, I just got a visit from code enforcement yesterday telling me I have to move my motorhome.

Why are you surprised / unhappy? Rules on that are usually pretty clear. As much as I would love to keep mine at home, I know I cannot.

"“He told me he will move his tank only when he is ready to move his tank,” the KHOUnews reporter said......."

Has to be one of the best first lines in a news article I have read in a while. Other than that, the article is missing a lot of details to make it reporting.

It's been parked in the same place for 2.5 years.

In my neighborhood they would fine you for each month in violation and place liens on your house for the amout. Maybe you should consider moving...

I lived in an HOA neighborhood for 5 years. They were supposed to maintain the road and common areas. They didn't. The fee was very low, but they never enforced collection. They were supposed to have a standard for new homes, but the standard wasn't enforced either.

Ah, so it wasn't an issue, now it is.

Maybe they were just too busy to focus on that. They were worried about the types of shingles people had or color of the siding and haven't freed up for your transgressions until now!

Where do you keep it? Under the carport on the side of the house?
I have a side entry garage, so it was half way back (30') from the street. I have access to my back yard, but it is grass and has a slope to it. I'll probably get some excavation done and pour a pad. $$$
I think my elderly neighbor has gotten real crotchety and complained to the city. Saddens me as I've asked them many times if it bothered them and they always said no.

So you can keep it in the backyard but not in the driveway?

Hard to find anyone to care about here...the arrogant pricks who live on RO Blvd or the arrogant prick who wants to show off his expensive new toy.

Well now, please tell us your real feelings. Agreed about your real feelings, however.

It bottles my mind how much people here love to bitch about HOAs. There is no surprise what you get in an HOA community. If you don’t want that, go find some place in unincorporated county and you can park however many dead cars you want in the yard.

I see your point and agree with it. I have always been a you knew the deal when you moved there, chooe the profession or whatever. Here is the real issue, many HOAs don't enforce the same rules on the same people. I am in the process of suing my POA they have a permanent structure on my property, caused a problem with drainage that creates a lake in front of my house when it rains, POA board members parks his boat and F250 in the street all night but a friend of ours parks in the street and is towed, dropped over 40k on hurricane clean up when if they just waited a couple of weeks FEMA would have done it for free, I could go on and on. The problem is you have people who rather than talk things out, think logically or try and come to some sort of middle ground they think they are the dictator of some small country. For over a year I tried to work through things with my POA, even met with the board where they played the let's work this out game and when I stated maybe we should just let lawyers handle this; they did the oh no we can work this out no reason to get lawyers involved. After meeting the next correspondence I got as from their lawyers. Keep in mind my neighborhood is very small, roughly 80 homes and where I live their are only 8 homes within the gated part of our community; so we are not talking about 1000 homes and countless issues. I am sure some people will say there must be more to the story or whatever and that is fine; there isn't. For us we have had board members scream and yell at our kids, tell us in writing that they will fix/solve issues they stated are their mistake and then never do it. Our lawyer was dumbfounded with the way they are handling things; I guess we will see in court. I know this much it would have been much easier to come to some sort of mutual understanding because I am not the guy to try and run over and expect nothing to come of it.

Don't you guys have house managers to deal with crap like this? If the Locker Room is now overrun with a ton of middle class people griping about their mundane problems, Gene needs to consider opening Locker Room Elite or something of that tenor. You know, like the Champions Club of Warchant.

Yes but you would never see anyone in there.

Do you wear your ascot to every home game, or do you save it for homecoming?

We have been looking at a lot of houses lately and have come across all types of HOA's. Most are not for us because we won't use a lot of what they cover. Golf course, marina. Nope. I don't play or have a boat. I've seen a lot that are "Optional", usually like $50/year. Nobody has been able to say what that gets you so I can't imagine anyone is paying it. Anyone familiar with those?

It depends what my valet lays out that day, and, of course, my mood, what Wifey wants to do pre- or post-game, etc. I'm a spontaneous man, as you can likely appreciate.
