My clock was flashing when I woke up...But it's back on now.All sorts of people reporting power out in Tallahassee.
Damage is extensive here in Tally...
My dad in Lady Lake is on generator as are my friends in Tavares and Mt. Dora. Seems like power outage is the brunt of the storm. Any reports of damage like what Rockport, TX saw or Houston-type flooding?Family in Lakeland, Gainesville and Jax all without power, otherwise ok
Lucky for you!Which once again proves size doesn't matter.![]()
Building codes have a lot to do with that. But yes, at the center Andrew was as destructive as they come...But terribly destructive in and around the center. Andrew aftermath in So Florida looked like the damage done by Irma in St Maarten and St. Bart's. Thankfully Irma doesn't seem to be having even close to the same impact on the mainland US.
So weird, all my coworkers in FL are offline on Skype. First time I've ever seen that. Almost all my people in Hogtown are without power except for ONE, not sure which part of town she's in though. My Clearwater and IRB folks are down.
The impact is more widespread, but not nearly as devastating as Houston. My dad in Lady Lake is on generator as are my friends in Tavares and Mt. Dora. Seems like power outage is the brunt of the storm. Any reports of damage like what Rockport, TX saw or Houston-type flooding?
If "feels" like this wasn't as bad as expected.
Am I the only one that feels a bit melancholy when these storms meet their ultimate demise? An organism born exclusively near the equator, utilizing rising water vapor, forming a ring of thunderstorms under the guidance of the Coriolis Force. It needs certain conditions to form and thrive, and when these conditions are ideal continues to grow in size and strength. From there, it is a thing of beauty and power, with no pity on anything that crosses it's path, until it's eventual demise, either on a land mass or overwhelmed by cold seas. But damn, when it hits a land mass it doesn't go down without a fight.
So you've never been hit by one. Got it.Am I the only one that feels a bit melancholy when these storms meet their ultimate demise? I find them fascinating but would prefer they stay over water and am not sad when they fade out.Am I the only one that feels a bit melancholy when these storms meet their ultimate demise? Power back on, water pressure back, but boil water order UFN; I'll take it.
Actually have been hit by one and close calls on several, so yes I've been a victim. Admit you've been watching Irma with curiosity, fascination and excitement, that's why all channels are covering it and we are tuned into it. And when the drama finally comes to end, well it's back to the everyday hum drum life. I'm not saying I like these storms, but I am in awe and respect of them. Is there human suffering from these storms? Sure, but life is full of suffering and adversity, what people do in times of suffering and adversity makes us stronger. So you've never been hit by one. Yeah, they're like car wrecks. You don't realize the long term impacts they have on people until you're directly affected...The drama may end for those watching the storm like a b grade movie; but those in it will not be back to normal for a while and neither will their bank accounts. I kind of get what your saying but I am more than happy to just watch them go out to sea and not make my life even more hectic.
Honestly, your post strikes a note with me, as I have always enjoyed storms. Not only is the power and beauty of them something to marvel at, being tested and engaged by them is something that for some reason I am drawn towards.Actually have been hit by one and close calls on several, so yes I've been a victim. Wifey looked at that pic and did not realize just what was what...before saying"oh crap! Look at that."
Atta way Mr. Itch. You came thru to the other side. Be thankful and roll on. Glad to hear you and your pop are in good shape.I agree they are cool how they form and live and I think tornados are also mesmerizing
But with that said the destruction to lives, families and property far outweighs any fascination I have with these cyclones
Here I sit by my pool in ft laud, cooking on the grill
No power
Generators running all night keeping me and my 80 year old dad with Alzheimer's up most of the night
It sucks, I spent 6 hours cleaning the neighbors oak leave and tree limbs from my boat and yard
But I am not complaining, in fact I am thankful
I could very easily have destruction all around, possibly loss of lives right here in my neighborhood
Boat could of been damaged, and on and on
So hear I sit smelling my grilling pondering what goldmom looked like under that waterfall, if fan2 u has cold hands, what day this week I say eff it and go land some monster bull dolphin, maybe grab some lobsters saving them from that long treacherous march
Yeah compared to those in Texas, he islands and in our own keys
I am thankful and no bitchin coming from itch!
