Hurricane Irma

I got three trees down in the yard that I planted 17 years ago.

Weird storm up here in Bay county (PC, PSB, LH). TS gusts started several hours ago, reverse surge, chilly...been in the 60s since mid afternoon and not a drop of rain. Tells me that bad stuff is for sure happening farther south. Good luck.

Power is out and we never lose power around here, all underground.

Tally is still in Irma's sights according to NHC and Euro models, they think it will begin a gradual turn to the NW, maybe even going over the water briefly. Still projected to go past east of Tally

Power has to come from some substation which is probably under water.

I hear what you're saying, but this has been way more of a wind than rain event. We've gotten maybe 4 inches of rain. We got 24 inches of rain from tropical storm Faye and this isn't even close.

The models are being stubborn with that track even though the eye has been tracking more north and more inland than forecast all day.

I was checking Tampa radar and then zoomed out to a Southeast US view. Now that you have something other than an island to compare it to, you realize how gigantic it is. Think it is the largest storm I've ever seen in my 62 years.

Did you see the comparison to Cat 5 Andrew? This one has gotta be 7 to 10 times bigger. Freakin unreal.

Man, talk about serious ptsd... this son of a bitch looks to be staying on a northern track and gonna hit us here in Orlando like Charley did. Dammmmit. Newscast is stating we'll feel that brunt from 11 or 12 - 3am

Port Charlotte weather station.
Not much in the way of wind:

Port Charlotte is clear now for a while.

My point is simply that wind speeds are down.
Looking at the Ft Meyers Airport, where it looks like the eye wall passed over based on wind speed and direction, sustained winds peaked about 60mph for a few minutes, with 80mph gusts, but overall about 9 hours of 40 mph winds.
Not a day in the park, but not category 5, most structures damaged type of event.

We lost power in Clearwater around 10:40 after texting family that everything was fine and nothing was really going on.

Andrew was tiny though...
But terribly destructive in and around the center. Andrew aftermath in So Florida looked like the damage done by Irma in St Maarten and St. Bart's. Thankfully Irma doesn't seem to be having even close to the same impact on the mainland US.

In Gainesville.

10am this morning our power went out for 3 hours. Internet gone since then.

Power just went out again. I'd guess this time for good. Storm is loud.

It's bad here on south side of Jax. I hear transformers making that sound off in the distance and the sky lights up in green when they go off - my house has power at the moment which is a miracle.

FSU opened its parking garages to the public and a local car dealer relocated its whole inventory. People were not happy FSUPD made them get out.

Power went out in Lutz at 11 p.m. last night. No damage to any of the houses in my neighborhood. A lot of downed branches and limbs. My truck was covered in leaves and branches. The streets in my neighborhood are fairly well flooded. Overall very little damage in my area.

Northeast of Atlanta here and it feels like a rainy December/January day.

I must say, growing up on the shore of NJ I have been around quite a few tropical systems, and this is the coldest I have seen so far. I am sure it is due to the interaction with the low that passed a few days ago, but I would never think the rain & wind currently had anything to do with a tropical system. It is still in the upper 50's at my house.
