This. I don't understand why some people get upset about being asked to use different terminology. Obviously there is a reason a particular group might be sensitive to the old word, likely because it had been used pajoratively for a long time. Just because you don't mean it that way doesn't mean the person/persons you're describing aren't going to be hurt by hearing it.
