You should change the title of the thread to "PGSF NFL Draft - *********** is on the clock" so posters can see their name on the board when it's their turn to pick.

Bobcat's been on all morning...He must really be mulling this one over.

Someone's going to have to e-mail him. He probably forgot since we're starting late.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Bobcat is on the Clock

Hey everyone sorry for the delay, they have Warchant blocked at work. So I don't hold this up any longer, with the 1st pick the Houston Texans select:

Jadaveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina

I will add a detail later tonight.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - ColoradoNoles is on the Clock

FTR, I think that the Texans take Bortles and the Rams trade away this pick (probably to Atlanta for Clowney)

But since I have to pick.... The Rams take: OL Greg Robinson Auburn

With Jake Long's return questionable this is the safe pick, although I think Sammy Watkins could have gone here too.

STRENGTHS:
Remarkable combination of size, power and body
control. Owns a prototypical frame for playing offensive line in the
NFL, including broad shoulders, long arms, a relatively trim waist,
thick bubble and tree trunks for legs.

Latches on and controls
as a run-blocker with good hand placement, easy knee bend and awesome
power to simply maul opponents, often driving them yards off the line of
scrimmage. Keeps his legs driving, showing good spatial awareness and
body control to keep his feet in traffic. Good quickness for the down
block and shows surprisingly light feet to adjust to moving targets when
asked to block at the second level.

Developing pass
blocker with all of the physical traits scouts look for in an NFL left
tackle. Quick out of his stance, plays with good flexibility and has the
long arms and strong hands to catch edge rushers and ride them out of
the pocket. An exceptional talent just scratching the surface of his
potential.

WEAKNESSES: Only two years of starting
experience and played in a relatively simple collegiate system which
catered to his strengths, rarely asking him to pass block on an island.
Catches edge rushers and rides them wide but must learn to slide his
feet more consistently or he will draw penalties for holding when
matched against NFL speed.

Can be a bit high off the snap. Can play too low, at times, leaving himself vulnerable to over-arm swim moves.
Has only played on the offensive line since his junior year in high school (2009).

Tough pick here....

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - 1nole2 is on the Clock

It's funny/sad for some of these kids, they go through a year or more of college being the defacto number one overall pick, or top qb, and hear practically everyone say they should be picked number one or be the first an taken, and then they declare and everyone seemingly goes "weyall.... maybe he's not the best option here..."

That being said, I like lineman picks when there isn't a Luck or Manning type qb. I just think Clowney will be a lot like randy Moss, he will clearly be the best player on every field he's on, when he wants to go all out.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - 1nole2 is on the Clock

Obviously it was a tough choice for me, as I know the Texans need a young QB. However, none of them warrant the number one pick IMO. Felt Clowney was the best player on the board and feel that if he tries to loaf that JJ Watt will kick his butt and let him know that's not acceptable.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - 1nole2 is on the Clock

With The Third Pick In The 2014 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars Select: Khalil Mack, OLB Buffalo. I was very tempted to go JFF, but I think the Jags pass and go defense. Although they signed a bunch of DEs in free agency, most were over the the age of 30 and Mack could fit perfectly into Gus Bradleys LEO position.

Strengths

Disruptive first-step quickness -- immediately re-creates the line of scrimmage and plays in the backfield (record tackle-for-loss production). Outstanding instincts -- locates the ball quickly and is around the ball a lot. Very good body control, bend and balance -- plays on his feet and is seldom on the ground. Developed pass-rush moves (rip, dip and inside counter). Very explosive. Excellent pursuit -- tracks down ball carriers from behind. Sacrifices his body and sells out around piles. Strikes with authority -- hits on the rise, violently jars ball carriers backward on impact and has a knack for dislodging the ball. Highly motivated. Played big vs. better competition (see Ohio State). Can zone drop and buzz to the flat with ease. Highly competitive and energetic. Regularly was the focus of defensive game plans and still produced despite facing multiple blockers and extra protection consistently rolled his way.
Weaknesses

Produced nondescript performance with a MAC title game berth on the line vs. Bowling Green and regularly faced inferior MAC competion. Plays a bit too recklessly and out of control. Can learn to run the arc with better lean.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - 1nole2 is on the Clock

With the 4th pick in the PGSF NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson.

I'll admit I thought for sure Blake Bortles would be gone by now, and he is the one QB I really like in this class. Cleveland shouldn't just take a QB to take one. If they aren't in love with a QB at #4, then select the best player available. Watkins will run prefect alongside Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron.

I think that is their best move, and then take the QB that falls into the 20s.

I wonder if they'd entertain a trade with Minnesota, who will be looking for a QB as well. Minnesota traded picks last year though to get Patterson, but if I were Cleveland I'd entertain the idea to move back to 8th, pick up a 2nd or maybe a pick next year.

Every year there are teams at the top of the 2nd who may entertain trading up for a QB. Cleveland has the leg up with the 26th pick, and then the 3rd pick in the 2nd round.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - 1nole2 is on the Clock

Wow, I thought that I'd be drafting someone other than Blake Bortles with the #5. With 4-5 QB's probably being drafted in the first round, I thought for sure I'd be drafting Watkins at this point, and grabbing a QB in the 2nd round. The Raiders passed on Calvin Johnson for JaMarcus Russell in 2007, and Watkins was not going to be passed up at this point.

Even with Matt Schaub on the roster right now, and with 2 years remaining on his contract, that would give Bortles 1 year to develop.

Bortles falling to the Raiders, could be the biggest gift since Marcus Allen fell to the Raiders with the 10th pick in the 1982 draft. Of course by falling to the 5th spot, the Raiders actually don't have to make the pick and f*ck it all up, the pick has been made for them.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Manch is on the Clock

With the 6th pick in the PGSF NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select: Anthony Barr OLB UCLA

0ap1000000217519.jpg

The Falcons desperately need to upgrade their pass rush and Barr will provide that.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Manch is on the Clock

If I'm the GM for the Bucs, I'm trading down with this pick because there's a player I like better, for their needs, that doesn't need to be picked this early. Since we have a no trade draft....the lucky Bucs pick Jake Matthews from TAMU. The Bucs have needed a plug and play OT since Paul Gruber retired so many years ago. Matthews is probably the safest pick in this entire draft. He doesn't have the upside of Robinson, or maybe Lewan, but he's been groomed to play offensive line his entire life, and he can play all 5 positions. No brainer here.

Man, that Matthews family makes a lot of football players!

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Winningnatty's is on the Clock

That's a great pick for the Bucs. Hope they go that route. Not the person picking next, but based on the picks so far, I can't imagine Minnesota not taking Teddy B.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Winningnatty's is on the Clock

I'd never seen this "Winningnatty's" character before (nor since) he used his 26th post to claim the Vikings in the sign-up thread. Unless you have a way to contact him, Bojim, I'm not feeling very optimistic that he's going to follow through.

I noticed he hasn't posted in 5 days.
He's obviously new. Maybe he lurks mostly. We'll give him until the morning at least.

Hopefully he remembers and checks in.

I have a decent knowledge of the Vikings. If he doesn't return, I'll throw out a pick in the morning, at 9ish am. Anyone object?

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Winningnatty's is on the Clock

I accidentally checked this board to see if the draft started. It might not hurt to post a reminder in the LR in case some others forgot as well.

I posted a message on the LR about the draft.

The window for the Vikings has come and gone. Next pick is on the clock.

Let's give this kid a few more hours. Maybe he'll see the post on the LR. If he doesn't show by lunch then go ahead and take over the team.

Does this work like the real draft? That is to say: the teams next in line can select the palyer they desire, and the Vikes have until whenever to pick.....

With the ninth pick in the PGSF draft, the Buffalo Bills select Mike Evans, WR from aTM.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Winningnatty's skipped, Nolein ATL is on the Clock

It's noon, and we are still Natty-less. Therefore:

The Minnesota Vikings select Derek Carr from the west coast FSU. Why? It's no secret the Vikes need a QB. Teddy's work out was less than spectacular, and has cost him. Johnny Football has no fan in the Vikes coach Mike Zimmer. The big arm that Carr brings will open up the field for the money man, AP.

The Browns sitting at #26 really like this pick.

Gotta go with the guy who fits the needs. If I thought Carr would last to two, I'd have gone cornerback.

This is retarded, let's keep this thing realistic please. Bridgewater would be the pick there. Derek Carr is not going 8 overall. They already reached with Ponder. We need to edit this. Or at least do it like the real draft and just move in an see if the kid comes back before the end of the first.

I'm not going to fight about this...this is supposed to be fun. Please see the third paragraph of the attached article.

Derek Carr

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Fmol14 is on the Clock

It's not like he didn't give reasoning, I'm ok with it. And I buy Carr as a future NFL qb over Bridgewater or Manziel.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Fmol14 is on the Clock

My quick two cents (one on each point):

Pdubb...Carr has shot up many teams' boards since the various top QB's pro days. The Vikes certainly appear to be one of them. In fact, if Bortles actually goes #1 overall as I suspect, it would not shock me if the Raiders took DC @ 5.

Love the Bills pick of Evans...Gives a young tall QB in E.J. a big target who catches everything to play keep-away with.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Fmol14 is on the Clock

Yeah! Actually it doesn't matter anyway. It will be fun to look back and laugh at some of the picks.

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Fmol14 is on the Clock

Yep, unflappable! Jadaveon Clowney is a future hall of famer!!!!!

Re: PGSF NFL Draft - Fmol14 is on the Clock

With the 10th overall pick, the Detroit Lions select Justin Gilbert, CB, Okla State.

images

Justin is too good a player and value to pass up at 10.

"Gilbert is a tremendous athlete with plenty of size (6'0", 202 lbs)
for a cornerback. He has terrific ball skills, is a strong tackler and
combines great instincts with the quickness to react on his reads."

Great pick! You're Titans are now on the clock.
