South fla woes

People have been using RIng to tell neighbors which stations have gas. Most of the pumps have been fixed, but not all. I believe the news said 10 of 12 were working last night. I did see a gas truck at a station at 6am yesterday. And the news did say there were no more lines of tanker trucks waiting to be filled at the port.

I noticed yesterday that all the gas stations on my main road home in Hollywood had gas. By work, 37 miles north in Deerfield, some were still out. Now it will just take time to refill everyone.

Neighbors who were flooded are having difficulty with FEMA. They are being told that they have not been notified of any damage in their area, even with videos of water up to car and house windows.

As for the question of who has surveyed the damage...no clue. I can tell you who hasn't been here, but I could get sent to Siberia for that.

I want NO part of a skirmish over gas 🤧💨
Just please keep any potential turbulence at a minimum. Crosswinds can be tricky. And now, please prepare for your Departure to begin your Journey.

I saw on tv that Ron is taking heat for travelling around the country "campaigning" and going to Japan instead of taking care of those in his flooded state.

We went through this after Sandy, but the problem was the gas couldn’t get delivered. We had daily calls from the governor’s office encouraging all SW CT residents to keep calling FEMA.

At the time we used gas buddy. Everyone would post on who had gas. We had no power for a week so we needed gas for generators.

Our governor at the time was all over it.

He still hasn't called or visited any of the hard hit areas. No love lost there.

I’m aware that he hasn’t.

In the aftermath of Sandy, Republicans and Democrats worked together for the people of CT.

So I just shake my head, just like I did after Michael. Now it’s one thing to ignore the Panhandle, but heavily populated South Florida? What’s the excuse for that?

With all due respect, what difference would it make?
Repub or demo

The gas could not get out of the tanks at the port

As far as the flooded areas it’s up to fema and people insurance companies

Please don’t take this as disrespectful to those with water damage, but to compare it to actual hurricane damage is a stretch

I’m 65
I’ve been thru many storms starting with “ Cleo”, and I’m a South Florida native still living here

I am in no way covering for the governor here
Go easy on me

Okay, then I’ll compare it to 8 inches of rain in a 2 hour period March 2010 that caused power outages, sump pumps didn’t work, all houses flooded, and insurance companies paid nothing because it wasn’t a named storm. Same scenario.

Southwestern CT. Are you seriously going to suggest that homeowners in Fairfield county CT did not have their homes insured? That’s like saying no one in Palm Beach insured their homes. Truly laughable.

Power was out for five days - 7 days. The governor kept pleading for FEMA, and FEMA came back. Our FEMA guy said, “it’s as if all the insurance companies got together and determined they weren’t going to pay”.

We, as well as many others had finished basements. The most FEMA could do for us was replace our oil burner. Home insurance gave us the required “food spoilage”, that was it.

We had a lot of help from other states in just getting the power back on.

We had one way out of our street, and that was going over downed power lines. Tree blocking the Merritt Parkway, Blown transformer burning at corner of Riverbank and Den Rd. Den road only way out.

I’m sure you can Google it since you seem to doubt what I’m saying.

Look

All I’m saying is this
“ don’t rely on the govt”

Your missing my point
Insurance companies have loopholes, a homeowner or renter has to make sure there properly covered!

That’s all I’m saying

I’m not the bad guy here, but you see these situations over and over again where homeowners are caught in the middle

Again don’t rely on the govt, and double check your policies before the crisis happens

I have never made a fema claim, nor did my parents

I was without power, gas for two weeks from Wilma

Had food n water as I prepare for storms

Lots of damage etc

It sucked big time

Is finding gas still a problem currently in the Dade area? I'm going to Ft. Lauderdale next weekend for the Atlanta/Miami soccer match, and though I think I can make the round trip on a full tank, I'd hate to start having issues needing gas on Alligator Alley.

I would think by then it would be back to normal

I saw bags on pumps again yesterday

I’m in Delray

There was no warning of this event. It was an “unidentifiable “ event.

No one was relying on the government. That’s my point. It was a last resort because no one’s insurance was covering. I repeat no one. It didn’t matter if you lived in 400k house, or a multi million dollar home.

Do you seriously believe that homeowners in Greenwich CT do not have homeowners insurance?

Plus, Dems and Republicans worked together to fix a natural disaster for the good of the people.

And you’re missing my point. Our governor at the time, Jodi Rell, was trying to get Federal relief for a disaster.

In 2010, not everyone had 50k sitting around just for cleanup and repairs. (And that would be the low end)

Properly covered doesn't matter. Once the companies decide they are not paying that's that. Talk to folks in the panhandle still or in Biloxi after Katrina. Same scenario as Sandy in the Northeast.

If that’s the case it seems a large class action suit would be the remedy

In all those states

But red or blue state how does it fall on the governors?

There’s a big problem that’s happening over the years in Florida

Insurance companies are getting outa here

Any excuse seems acceptable

I’m talking about the March 2010 storm. Yes Sandy was in 12. We had one a year. By Sandy, the insurance companies had changed their tune. Too late to fix what happened in 10 though.
True. I was in New Jersey during Sandy and was no power for 10 days. We had a gas stove so we could heat up canned soup. Had certain days we could get gas for a month.

In Ft Lauderdale area there doesn't seem to be a problem. Could be because everyone was panic buying last week and now all their tanks are full. You should be good. And I am fairly certain that the rest areas on the highways get gas first. It has always been my go to during a hurricane warning.

Because as the governor OF THE PEOPLE you should be there to support all THE PEOPLE. Not just the people who vote for you. There are some red voters in Broward County and last I checked he is still taking my money for his salary.

By Sandy, we had purchased a generator. In 2010, we had to sleep in front of the fireplace and keep fueling the fire just to keep warm.

But, in our finished basement were 5 bookcases of books, exercise equipment, N gauge trains, and a tube amplifier, speakers and great music set up. Tons of photographs….all lost. 12 inches of water in a basement causes a lot of damage.

We were in FL and a neighbor went over and pumped out the basement. So at least when we got home, the water was gone. But, there was still no power.

Does the State own the gas tanks or do they run Port Everglades?

The governor generally declares a state of emergency, which triggers federal aid.

Didn’t you say you’d lived through many storms?

The lack of support for Katrina and Michael is appalling. You’d think that after Katrina, the country would have learned. But just drive from Tallahassee to Pensacola. You can still see the damage.

We are not going to change each others opinions. I was not personally affected by the storm other than the inconvenience of driving an extra 45 minutes to get home and unable to run errands for a week. i can live with that. But as the head of the state, I feel you have an obligation to be there when a crisis occurs. The freaking airport was closed for 2 days, not the local airport, but one of the busiest airports in the country. There was a gas crisis in 2 counties affecting millions. And you don't feel the need to stop your book tour or even call the cities to offer any assistance? Terrible.

I have to ask... were you Nikki Fried’s campaign manager? 😂 😎
Ft Lauderdale airport is ten freaking feet above sea level. And very close to water.
What a shock that a 100 year rain out of nowhere might flood it. Did anyone understand that it would take a while to drain off? Has it happened before? Y’all think of floating (pun) a bond issue to address it...you know, global warming and all. Maybe all the New Yorkers in Bow-ca will vote for it. 💩
How do you know RDS didn’t call local officials or direct State agencies to handle it?
I grew up here and lived through lots of storms and natural disasters. I’ve seen stuff not so dissimilar- hurricanes, fires every spring etc.
Panic buying by idiots who kept running around filling up/topping off five or six gallons exacerbated the problem.
If you read the garbage toilet paper that passes for the Miami Herald or FL Sun Sentinel or PB Post they fanned the flames and half truths and gleefully blamed a weather event on the Governor and we all know why.
Then there’s the little circle jerk crew in Tally who trash him because they live in their social bubble and don’t have a MF clue as to what the rest of the state thinks, lives, works, or votes. Which explains why a lot of state services run out of Tally are so archaic.
My rant is over. Unless somebody wanna start sump’n.

About as much as the Governor has to do with getting the floodwaters to recede in Ft. Lauderdale. Honestly.
Who the heck said or implied anything at all about anybody wanting or expecting the Governor to make any floodwaters recede?
Spoiler - NOBODY but you.
You simply popped in to stir the pot and to fan partisan discord, with or without some cutesy emoticon, and then to sit back and enjoy the results, per usual.
Why? Just because you can?

And make it personal at the same time. 😉

Broward County response, state has been 'absolutely phenomenal'

Fisher, a Democrat, said state officials and, in part, the Florida Division of Emergency Management have been "absolutely phenomenal."

He said multiple agencies have been collaborating to repair damage in hard-hit cities like Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Dania Beach, and FEMA was on-site at some of the most affected communities, including Edgewood and Melrose Park.

Fisher said DeSantis declared a state of emergency and that the governor called him personally to let him know that his office and resources were at the county's disposal. Fisher said he appreciated the call and the help.

"It wouldn't have made a difference. He sent all the resources immediately to us," Fisher said regarding the governor not visiting the scene. "How can you ask for any more?"

Ill agree that the optics weren't great but it was resolved fairly quickly. I guess every elected leader should visit every crisis situation these days to keep the wolves away. Even Trump joined in the bashing with this one.

There are these things called pumps that are often employed to reduce standing water, that many parts of the country employ. All along the Mississippi River they have them. Ask St Louis. I’m sure there are many cities along the Mississippi that do. The area of St Charles is a flood plain that uses them.

In many places, standing water is considered a health threat.

Exactly!

What else do you think he should do?

Always political

I didn’t see one thread about Gavin newsome coming to Florida to heckle Our governor during the height of California floods
Or wildfires on and on

Or about Biden and crew not going to east Palestine,

I only see political crap once again

And as soon as you make a statement the same bunch of thread police jump in
LOL at how routine it is on here to see any pushback or challenges from the blue side of the aisle whined about as "opinion police" or "thought police" or that dreaded cancel culture or whatever, whereas the red side can challenge whatever they wish and as personally and snarkily as they wish and that's just patriotic freedom fighting or religious liberty or whatever.
Curious phenomenon, huh?
