South fla woes

LOL at how routine it is on here to see any pushback or challenges from the blue side of the aisle whined about as "opinion police" or "thought police" or that dreaded cancel culture or whatever, whereas the red side can challenge whatever they wish and as personally and snarkily as they wish and that's just patriotic freedom fighting or religious liberty or whatever.
Curious phenomenon, huh?

Did you call out newsome
How the murderer cuomo
How bout Biden, I’m positive you called out Trump

How bout the blue state governors where crime is rampant

I don’t see anyone calling those governors out

Um the thread was all about DeSantis and him or his office not calling or visiting or helping South Florida. The only part of which is true is the not visiting part.

Start a thread about whatever you want people to call out, or call it out yourself.
And fyi, my views on things aren't just expressed here, so I'm not totally convinced you know anything at all about whom or what I've said what about and why. Sorry if that's too mindblowing.

Excellent, but you surely wouldn't want to be the "thought police" weighing in about which commentary I can and can't respond to and how, right?

Doesn't matter to me one way or the other. Its opinion police BTW.

There are these things called pumps that are often employed to reduce standing water, that many parts of the country employ. All along the Mississippi River they have them. Ask St Louis. I’m sure there are many cities along the Mississippi that do. The area of St Charles is a flood plain that uses them.

In many places, standing water is considered a health threat.
The spring flooding that happens almost every year along the Mississippi has just started this week, so it will be interesting to see how it’s handled over the next few weeks.

Well...the Marquis of Queensbury moved and all that’s left is us nasty old snarks.

I’m not talking about spring flooding that occurs every year. I’m talking about disastrous flooding over the years, going up to the arch and putting St Charles under water.

I recall those disastrous floods. There were areas in and around that part of Missouri that were so inundated for so long that they’ve still not been rebuilt.

And sometimes people just take the insurance money and abandon the properties

Some flood prone areas should not be rebuilt

IMHO!

That’s why there are/were laws restricting building in wet lands and flood plains. But that is another topic that, as an environmentalist, I know a little about.

Must be effecting the Cardinals play thus far..... I've been in that Arch and that baby sways too much for comfort. Southern Comfort that is. Thank you, kindly. :)

Who the heck said or implied anything at all about anybody wanting or expecting the Governor to make any floodwaters recede?
Spoiler - NOBODY but you.
You simply popped in to stir the pot and to fan partisan discord, with or without some cutesy emoticon, and then to sit back and enjoy the results, per usual.
Why? Just because you can?
May I warmly encourage you to drink some decaff products?

Why am I not surprised that you were the first to take the bait...
And make it personal at the same time. 😉
You remain so calm and poised and have such a pleasant demeanor (most of the time) when under attack. I like it. :)

I have to ask... were you Nikki Fried’s campaign manager? 😂 😎
Ft Lauderdale airport is ten freaking feet above sea level. And very close to water.
What a shock that a 100 year rain out of nowhere might flood it. Did anyone understand that it would take a while to drain off? Has it happened before? Y’all think of floating (pun) a bond issue to address it...you know, global warming and all. Maybe all the New Yorkers in Bow-ca will vote for it. 💩
How do you know RDS didn’t call local officials or direct State agencies to handle it?
I grew up here and lived through lots of storms and natural disasters. I’ve seen stuff not so dissimilar- hurricanes, fires every spring etc.
Panic buying by idiots who kept running around filling up/topping off five or six gallons exacerbated the problem.
If you read the garbage toilet paper that passes for the Miami Herald or FL Sun Sentinel or PB Post they fanned the flames and half truths and gleefully blamed a weather event on the Governor and we all know why.
Then there’s the little circle jerk crew in Tally who trash him because they live in their social bubble and don’t have a MF clue as to what the rest of the state thinks, lives, works, or votes. Which explains why a lot of state services run out of Tally are so archaic.
My rant is over. Unless somebody wanna start sump’n.
Wow. I just love rants..... "I'm a man! I'm forty!" :)
I have always loved that song by Steely Dan. "Nikki, Don't Lose That Number!"

You are kinda cute, but mostly wierd.
Jeez. WTF..

And you talk 💩 to me on HROT.
Put me on ignore and back off.
Are you the big dawg up in here?
Kinda cute, but mostly weird..
Your post #100 is a real trope. It seems that newspapers are not your thing. Don’t subscribe then.

You just called me a dog? And a big one?
Seriously?
Oh, and I subscribe to the WSJ.
Now. Head back over to HROT where they don’t ever take out the trash.

I always have appreciated your generation at FSU, they were those who I looked up to as a kid. I will never forget the influence they had on me. The Bill Peterson, Hugh Durham, Fred Hatfield/ Woody Woodward years were amazing, and the players were my all time favorites. So was Bill McGrotha at the Tallahassee Democrat.
You are really going down the road of praising WSJ and trashing Fl papers? Even as you continually diss Yankees who move to Florida.
I know multiple folks who have done good work for the papers you are trashing. Good work, but they don’t praise trump or desantis, which it seems that you demand. Instead, they report the truth as best they can ascertain, without bias.

Post 100 still makes me wonder. Don’t worry, I will spend time at the HORT, but you can’t tell anyone how to behave. Freedom of expression.
Go ahead. I expected better.

I’m pretty sure you know who. We all do.
