FSU sports information:

A furious comeback by 25th-ranked Syracuse resulted in a 79-73 loss by No. 15 Florida State Women’s Basketball on Thursday night at the JMA Wireless Dome.

The Seminoles (14-5, 5-2) held a 54-36 lead with 7:58 remaining in the third quarter, but Syracuse’s Dyaisha Fair proved to be too much as she sparked the comeback with 31 points on 24 field-goal attempts.

Sophomore guard Ta’Niya Latson recorded 22 points with nine assists, while junior forward Makayla Timpson added 16 points and 12 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season.

Timpson also recorded her 22nd career double-double, moving into a tie for sixth place in FSU history. Sophomore Snoop Turnage added 10 boards. Both teams tied on the glass at 40-40, but the Seminoles held a large advantage in the rebounding battle for much of the game until Syracuse caught up late.

Junior guard O’Mariah Gordon had a solid performance with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists.

FSU out-scored Syracuse 46-22 in the paint, but the Orange made up for it by going 10-of-21 beyond the arc.

The Seminoles were out-scored 25-11 in what was a crucial fourth quarter, which had been their best quarter of the season entering Thursday’s game. FSU came out of a timeout and got a layup by Latson and the foul to re-take the lead at 69-67, but back-to-back 3-point field goals by Fair gave the Orange a 73-69 lead with 2:43 left.

Timpson made good on a shot in the paint to cut FSU’s deficit to 75-73, but the Seminoles were unable to convert offensively for the remaining minute.

The Seminoles return home on Sunday for a 2 p.m. tip with Virginia at the Tucker Center. Sunday’s game is FSU’s Military Appreciation Game, where active duty and former servicemen and women can contact the ticket office for discounted tickets at 1-888-FSU-NOLE.
