Agreed. Maybe after playing a few matches with Lacazette, Sanchez comes to realize thinks aren't so bad at The Arsenal (Champions League, excluded) and might decide he wants to stick around after all.

Well, I can dream, can't I?

Funny how dominoes tumble sometimes.

Athletico's transfer ban gets upheld which results in:

Griezmann staying;
meaning he doesn't go to MUFC;

Lazacette not going to Athleti;
Lazacette ending up at Arsenal;

Lukaku going to MUFC rather than Chelsea.

Winner: Arsenal; Loser: Chelsea.

MUFC: TBD

Man U = winner. Lukaku is a HUGE win. He is a beast. Huge loss for Chelsea and huge loss for the rest of the Prem.

I wrote TBD b/c I was talking about Lukaku vs Griezmann, not just Lukaku. I don't think it's unknown that Griezmann was their top target.

I do agree that Lukaku should do really well at United. But it'll be interesting to see if Mourinho allows him to do nothing defensively the way he did for Ibra, or if he makes him set the line at the top of the press the way he wants his strikers too.

I'm going to be interested to see if United let De Gea go (he's practically been begging to go) or if they force him to stay for at least 1 more year.

FTR, right now, if Chelsea don't find a top flight striker I'm worried about top 4. I don't see us getting off to a great start with Hazard being out likely until after the Sept. International break. In addition, it's a pretty difficult start.

As an aside, Chelsea will be the first title holder to not be on TV (in England) matchday 1 since United in 03/04.

I will never understand the love for Wayne Rooney. It makes no sense. He's an average to a slightly above average player who had the benefit of playing for the best manager, along with Ronaldo, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Ruud van Nistelrooy, et. al. over his career. He's the epitome of the overhyped English player.

Rooney's averaged significantly less than a goal every two games over his career for Man United, while playing with some of the best, most creative players the world has ever seen. Literally any striker of any merit, not even necessarily a world class striker (which he is not, and has never been) could have done as well or better over the time he's been there.

He's been on 300k/week for like 7-8 years. Why?! For what?!

He's only scored 20+ league goals twice in his career. For a player of his alleged stature, that's criminal! (and he never really got close to 20 in any of the seasons that he didn't score 20 either)

For some context, Dimitar Berbatov scored 20 once for Man U in his short 4-year stint there.

Tevez didn't ever do it at ManU, but he went to City for 4 years and did it twice.

Hell, once Emmanuel friggin' Adebayor scored 24 goals in a season for Arsenal.

Most people would say those players aren't better than Rooney. (IMO Tevez clearly is/was better, but Man U fans like to pretend he sucks for some reason.)

In the appropriated words of the great Ace Ventura, "Wayne Rooney should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell."

That said, I hope he scores a hattie against Liverpool and Man United every time he plays them. I'm now his biggest fan! :D

James Rodriguez to Bayern. I wonder if that means anything for Sanchez. They play different positions, so no reason it should matter, but it's a high-profile player who's presumably on a huge wage. They may not want to add another expensive player to their stable. Hard to tell.

Les - I don't think it means anything for Sanchez. Bayern already came out and said they didn't want to add him because his wage demands were too high. Also, they wanted to continue to focus on some younger guys, and if memory serves me correctly, James is a few years younger than Sanchez. I really think the only transfer option for Sanchez is to City, and I don't think Arsenal will send him there. There was even an interview Mertesacker gave within the past 48 hours and he is confident Sanchez will be a Gunner this year. Of course all bets are off when his contract runs out.

Anyone else going to RayJay tomorrow? Here's hoping the storms don't blow through too hard...oh, and that the USA actually cares to attack (in spite of Bruce Arena's philosophy of coaching...)

I have to drive down to central Florida today to help Mrs. Ed (no pics) finish closing out her late mom's house sale. Going to try to catch this game if my BIL in Clearwater gets tix.

I don't know how I'm going to make it another month till the Premier season kicks off!?!?

Petr Cech...

"Oh Petr Cech is magic.
He wears a magic hat.
He could've stayed at Chelsea...
but he said F*** on that.
He saves it with his left hand.
He saves it with his right.
And when we win the league again
We'll sing this song all night!"

You guys do "Magic Hat" for Cech, ironic b/c we do it for Cesc. :)

Interesting. What was the impetus for the "magic hat" reference? I don't get it.

In any case, that beats the old Arsenal chant, which was the highly creative:

"We've got Cesc Fabregas.
We've got Cesc Fabregas.
We've got Cesc Fabregas."

Your guess is as good as mine.

I think we can all agree, some chants are highly creative and work (eg. The Willian Song), some are highly creative and are terrible and some are fairly standard i.e. ones that play off of songs -> eg. Hey Giroud or ones that play off of other older chants (eg. When the Spurs come marching in playing off of When the Saints come marching in).

Copied from a commenter on Arseblog...

"Our squad is massive:

Gibbs
Chambers
Debuchy
Ospina
Szczesny
Jenkinson
Ospina
Wilshere
Perez
Walcott
Campbell
Akpom

All need letting go and this is before we even look at buying anymore players, meaning more will have to make way.

This summer isn’t just about buying first team 11 quality it’s about having a mass clear out of deadwood.
=========
Totally agree with him. So much dead wood in that list.

Making all or most of those sales would free up a massive amount of very necessary wages to try to use to re-sign Alexis, and/or to go sign Lemar and/or Mahrez with.

Either way, every day I get up and read a dozen rumors about who Arsenal is going to buy, and almost never who they're going to sell.

Let the sales begin!!

Debuchy & Szczesny seem on their way out the door...maybe even this week. While the sale figures aren't large, if they exist at all for Debuchy, they will at least free up salary space.

I agree with the remainder of the list, with the exception of Ospina, needing to be sold. Ospina is still a good quality keeper who can be a #1 if necessary. We don't have anyone else on the roster we can say that about if Szczesny is sold.

I agree. Ospina is a good keeper.

I'd keep Ospina too, for sure...but if you're him, why do you wanna stay?

Same for Giroud. I'd keep him in a second, but if you're him, and it's a World Cup year, and you have a chance to lead the line for one of the World Cup favorites...are you really gonna stay at Arsenal and play the spot duty/super sub role? I know I sure as hell wouldn't.

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11670/10952258/sampdoria-make-bid-for-arsenals-jack-wilshere

Sampdoria have offered £6m plus £1.5m in add-ons for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, according to Sky in Italy.

Wilshere has one year remaining on his Arsenal contract and spent last season on loan at Bournemouth.
==============
If this was 2010-2012ish, that bid would've only been from Juve, and it would've been for 50 mil.
Amazing how far he's fallen.

Sad too. He's Mr. Arsenal! Been at the club since age 9. Loves the Goons more than just about any player we've ever had. I'd hate to give him away for next to nothing (like that bid would be). Let him stay and fight for Santi's spot, IMO.

As posted above, w/Jack leading the cheer during the FA Cup parade...

"What do we think of Tottenham?"
Shit!
"What do we think of Shit?"
Tottenham!
"Thank you."
That's alright.
"We hate Tottenham and we hate Tottenham.
We hate Tottenham and we hate Tottenham.
We hate Tottenham and we hate Tottenham.
We are the Tottenham haters!"

He'll forever be a legend for doing that (twice!)

Well, there is definitely smoke following the Neymar rumor. These notes from the BBC transfer rumor page...

Barcelona forward Neymar, 25, has accepted an offer from Paris St-Germain after the French club triggered his £195m release clause. (Esporte Interativo via Daily Mail)

But Barcelona's vice-president, Jordi Mestre, has insisted Brazil international Neymar will not leave the Spanish giants any time soon. (Star)

South American football expert Tim Vickery says Neymar could leave Barcelona to step out of team-mate and Argentina forward Lionel Messi's shadow. (BBC Radio 5 live)

On a different note, Pulisic had two excellent assists in Dortmund's win over AC Milan yesterday, plus he drew a penalty in the box with a nifty move. Every time I see him, he looks like the real deal.
