Now meyer is acknowledging he lied at the Big Ten press conference but he did it for all the right reasons. He's still a putz.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer claims in statement to have properly reported Zach Smith incident
Meyer says he, in fact, knew about Zach Smith's 2015 domestic violence allegation and reported it

The statement in its entirety:

Dear Buckeye Nation:

My heart is heavy today as I witness the toll that events of the past week have taken on the Buckeye Family and the university community that I love so dearly.

When I stand before the 105 young men in our football program and talk about core values and doing the right thing and respecting women, it's not lip-service. I genuinely believe that we have an obligation to help develop the young men in our charge into positive change agents and that responsibility rests with me.

Over the past several days, I have been portrayed as being indifferent to domestic violence and as someone who did not take appropriate action, when warranted. While over three decades of coaching I have learned to ignore how others define me, I do feel it necessary to share the truth with the Buckeye family.

Here is the truth: While at the University of Florida, and now at The Ohio State University, I have always followed proper reporting protocols and procedures when I have learned of an incident involving a student-athlete, coach or member of our staff by elevating the issues to the proper channels. And, I did so regarding the Zach Smith incident in 2015. I take that responsibility very seriously and any suggestion to the contrary is simply false.

The power of what I say and how I say it, especially regarding sensitive and serious domestic issues, has never been more evident than now. My words, whether in a reply to a reporter's question or in addressing a personnel issue, must be clear, compassionate, and most of all, completely accurate. Unfortunately, at Big Ten Media Days on July 24th, I failed on many of these fronts. My intention was not to say anything inaccurate or misleading. However, I was not adequately prepared to discuss these sensitive personnel issues with the media, and I apologize for the way I handled those questions.

I understand there are more questions to be answered and I look forward to doing just that with the independent investigators retained by the University and I will cooperate fully with them. At the appropriate time, I will also address the questions and speculation in a public forum. But for now, out of respect for the ongoing inquiry, I will refrain at this time.

Please know that the truth is the ultimate power and I am confident that I took appropriate action. As I stated above, I deeply regret if I have failed in my words. As the son of an amazing woman and the husband to another and, as the father of two incredible young women, those who know me best know the admiration and respect I have for all women. Our core values are just that-values that do not ever waver.

I ask that you continue to support the incredible coaches and student-athletes in our program, and I look forward to rejoining them soon.

I'm not going to provide the link because the language in it would violate board rules but Google the Project Veritas report on meyer.
I saw that. I have no doubt Meyer is a piece of crap, but I would also take project veritas with a grain of salt. They have a history of editing videos to make it appear people are saying things they arent. I wont get into it here because it is typically political stuff, so just saying I would still take it with a grain of salt. And again, I'm not defending Meyer, but I'd rather hear from a source that isn't project veritas.

Kind of a trumpian excuse - got confused by the double negative. Looks like the AD is going to be the fall guy.

Still doesn’t excuse the fact that he didn’t fire him.

Urban is piece of dog crap and OSU will now be loathed by me and many others on an entirely different level if they don’t fire him.

Looking forward to watching project veritas.

This should surprise no one. Did you really think they would lose a coach who has done what urbie has. Now don't get mad but watch how the press coverage backs off; not that it got really bad anyways

My bad, I didn’t think of that when I linked barstool earlier. Delete if you must.

This story isnt going away, and if he isnt fired it will be a storyline every game OSU plays.

And didnt get that bad? ALmost the entire last hour of sportscenter has been on this topic.

So, the AD is taking the fall?

What does that mean for the university if he reported it and they did nothing for 3 years? Let’s see documentation of those “reports.”

What a joke.

I think they both get axed. It certainly appears Urban is trying to spin this and put the blame on the AD, but in the end I think they both get fired.

It’s early August so just about anything with a pulse will take up the whole hour. I don’t watch coverage so maybe it’s “bad” but sportscenter on August 3rd is a crappy litmus test.

I dont know what you mean by a litmus test. The story broke 2 days ago and has had coverage around the clock. That is how media works, so I dont understand the "litmus" aspect to it. IF this story broken labor day weekend with games going on, it would also get a ton of coverage. And sure, this time of year baseball is about the only thing going on, and obviously other things will be covered when the season gets closer, but covering other things doesnt equate to this story going away.

Ira tweeted that OSU wouldn’t let that statement go out if they were bringing him back...he’s gone. Just doing what Meyer does, throwing everyone under the bus

Seems like a Hail Mary from Meyer, so my sense is he knows he is probably gone and probably knows it.

What will be interesting to see is if his closet of skeletons comes crashing out after this if he is fired.

I think to a degree they already have, though this will certainly expand on it. One of the arguments I am seeing people make is that this is a pattern with him and pointing to Hernandez and the numerous incidents at Florida he did nothing about either.

What I think will be interesting, is to see if he ever gets another job. You would think he is toxic and no one would touch him, but at the same time, there is no doubt he is a great coach, and it only takes one school to decide they will handle the bad press if he gets seats filled. So would a mid level team in the one of the power conferences take him a year or two from now? WOuld it be worth it to a team like say Missouri, or Iowa State, or Syracuse or somebody like that to offer him a job? My guess would be no, but it also wouldnt shock me.

He made that press release which is a lie for the singular purpose of setting up his next job.

Zach Smith has stated he did a thousand things he regrets but never hit her. He also denies a lot of what Courtney alleges he did.
Zach also said he has no idea where the marks on her came from.
The AD was aware of all this as was Urban.
Urban asked him if he hit her because if he did he'd be fired immediately.
Zach also stated no way should Urban be fired.
It's been passed around that Courtney has a drinking problem and tends to make stuff up.
I find it very strange that her family was basically unwilling to guide her throughout the alleged abuse.
As far as Urban, lying to the media isn't grounds for firing.

There were text messages released where Zach Smith admitted chocking her.

And I have also seen the alcoholic stuff about her. But my question to that, is who is all that stuff coming from, and how do so many people know about a WR coaches wife? I live in Nashville, not an OSU market, and a dude called into a radio show yesterday and said his friend in Columbus, had another friend tell him, that she is bipolar. My point being, if the alcoholic stuff, or bipolar stuff, is coming from message boards or friends of friends, then I would take that with a huge grain of salt.

I'd say choking her is technically not hitting her.
He stated all this on a radio interview today.
I agree about the internet stuff, just stating what's out there. There was also a story floating around that her cousin allegedly stated she is an alcoholic and her and Zach are both crazy.

Well it isnt technically hitting her, but choking her, or throwing her against a wall and stuff like that is still domestic violence.

I dont know anything about her, and it is certainly possible she has issues. In saying that, I hate that stuff like that gets passed around because if it isnt true, then people are basically slandering a domestic violence victim for no other reason than it might hurt the football team they cheer for.

I did watch his interview, and he definately had all kinds of excuses built up that didnt really seem on the up and up to me.

I'd say choking her is still domestic assault and abuse.
I know!! I would actually say it is a far worse escalation of a domestic incident compared to pushing down or striking a woman. It is basically attempting murder.

Hey @DanC78 , add a poll to the thread. Its killing me for the outcome of this based on what we know now. I just don't want to give the rat bastard a second thread.

So far we've seen
1) no more punishment (or minimal
2) resigns
3) is fired
4) is fired and takes the AD down with him al la Lt Col Frank Slade
5) The AD or wife takes the fall

I wouldn't be surprised if the wife resigns as her knowing and not saying anything.

I didn't know about the issue re the wrestling team, but considering they just got burned by the last coach's inability to differentiate the difference between a truth and a lie, I really don't think they have the tolerance level people believe. He already has an attorney and I bet they are making preps to fight any action the university takes. I think they fire him or find some mediated graceful exit, but I hope fire (so thats how I voted). Lots of speculation and who knows what else they find.

Do we know if he actually reported it to OSU or is just passing the buck? If he knew and didn't fire the coach, thats an issue as well. That was a part of issue for PSU, everyone passed the buck "well, I told my boss".

I haven't been on all week and didn't read the entire thread.

Am I the first to predict that Urban fakes a medical situation until the Bama job opens up?

The wrestling thing goes back, that is really getting attention now due to the guy who supposedly turned a blind eye to it being a politician.

However, OSU also just placed a diving coach on leave a couple of weeks ago because he is being investigated for turning a blind eye to one of his assistants having sex with a teenage diver.

I dont know what is going on with college sports, and I am sure it has always been like this, and this stuff just gets more attention now. But this stuff needs to be cleaned up. And OSU is obviously under the microscope right now, but I am sure this stuff happens a lot of places. The NCAA needs to quit worrying about kids getting a free meal and this and that, and start looking into their coaches.
