Winston Suspended

Man, some of you have some Jameis colored glasses.
I've always defended the guy from what I felt were often unfair attacks/criticisms...That being said, I think this is his last shot to right the ship. If the suspension holds, he better come out afterward with his hair on fire & produce in a big way (i.e., win lots of games) if he wishes to continue his lucrative career.

I'm no longer defending Winston. He's on his own. If it were me, I'd be happy to have a career at all after the issue at FSU and be riding the straight and narrow. But it's not, and I'm also 40. Who knows how I would have handled it at his age.

What’s next, man?? Eliminating the swimsuit competition from the Miss America pageant, and turning it into a chunky-girls-do-good-deeds-celebration?? Oh, wait.....

I would submit just get rid of the Miss America pageant. Are Mrs not eligible? Ill take a chunky do-gooder with nice personality of a smoking hot bitch with no personality. :)

Does anyone here actually watch the Miss America Pageants?

Well we certainly won't now that there is no swimsuit or evening gown contest and they don't have to be thin or pretty.

She didn't care enough to contact the police to press charges two years ago.

Idk man...if it were my daughter/friend whatever. And she told me the story how Jameis Winston grabbed her crotch while she was driving him home in an Uber, I’d be more upset than if she said it was just a random dude.

The guy is struggling with some issues if this is true.

Me personally; I’m not going to defend him anymore, it makes one look like a massive homer.

I mean, didn’t he get in trouble for running around campus saying “grab her in the P.”?

He did. That was a shout out to the guy who said it to a reporter on live TV (which I think may have been later debunked as fake/staged.)

Jamies is a total moron at best...at worst, something much worse.

Bottom line is, if he does get suspended it will not be for any kind of inappropriate touching because that can't be proven. He will be suspended for not reporting the incident to the NFL. So he will potentially lose $130k for not reporting something he claims never happened two years ago.

While I fully understand not wanting to defend him anymore, I also believe he's become an easy target for both an accuser and especially the press.

I don’t disagree, but it is crazy how this happened two years ago. He does appear to have grown up a bit since then. As someone already suggested, maybe this was the incident that caused it. If so, I hope rule number 1 in his life is no alcohol. Some people just can’t handle drinking and become complete idiots. He likely is one of those.

But that's exactly the point. Even if he claims it's not true, he was still aware of the accusation, and is required by the NFL to report it.

Given his "target" status, you would think he would want to get far, far ahead of this situation rather than let it play out the way it did.

And this isn't even getting into the issue of hanging out with someone in the middle of a rape trial...

This hasn’t been established so it’s not the bottom line. It’s already been shown he was likely lying and was in the Uber headed home by himself. Not a huge jump to think he also did what the Uber driver claimed. NFL doesn’t need rock solid evidence, they’ve shown that in the past.

It’s pretty clear by now, he can’t think ahead/strategically. He’s not dumb but he doesn’t think temporally beyond the “now”. As in “now this will be funny” and “now this will be fun to hang out with my buds”.

He’s not dumb but....

Not really sure if I could agree with that assessment. He is definitely not smart by any stretch of the imagination.
Football smart maybe, but that he has failed to show.

He was accepted into Stanford so he can't be stupid. It's an easy argument to win saying he lacks common sense and self awareness but that is different from intelligence.

This girl knew Jameis was an easy mark. She probably came on to him then cried wolf. She knows he'll pay. The only dumb thing he's done is settling the lawsuit with Erica Kinsman...

Homey - there are so many bad/false assumptions in your opinion, it would be best to delete. No lawsuit no settlement. She reported it to Uber and Uber canceled his app.

Yup, which is why the NFL is safe here. Uber notified him that he’d been banned for misconduct. He knew there’d been an incident of some kind reported.

I like Jameis and stand behind him as the QB of the Bucs. I think he’s a good kid at heart and wants to do good in this world. I also don’t think this incident is that big of deal when isolated to just this incident. Three game suspension suits me just fine, I don’t see any reason for the law to get heavily involved either.

And for those who say he’s an easy target, please. You’re flattering him too much. There are plenty of more famous and rich people these types of accusations could be happening to, but you rarely hear of them.

He uses his talent to make millions, and uses the media to build his good persona when needed. He can’t expect to leverage this for the good and then turn around and do offensive stuff like steal and grab women in inappropriate areas and think that it’s okay because of his fame and talent. When he does this kind of boneheaded stuff he’s gonna be called out in the national media, that’s the deal and he is fully aware.

I have zero empathy with him on this one.

And for those saying she is making it up, the report says Darby and the other dude sent him home because he was “intoxicated” and acting “unruly”.

If you don’t believe he did it and she is another liar, that’s fine, but I believe her.

Homey, Jameis could post up in the Hard Rock Casino any night of the week and get 1,000 better looking women. Why would he need to grope an Uber driver?

if it happened - because he was drunk, because she was there, because it's a power play....who knows. Why did Tiger do what he did?

The suspension has come down. Jameis issued a statement apologizing to the Uber driver and said he no longer drinks alcohol.

While not directly admitting guilt, by apologizing it is certainly inferred.

To be fair, if, in my drunkenness in a Taco Bell drive-thru, i had perceived my nachos bell grande potentially falling as it's being passed through the window, my ass is grabbing anything the save that mana from God.

Winston offered a statement immediately after news of the suspension came down:

“The NFL informed me today that I will be suspended for the first three games of the season.

“First and foremost, I would like to say I’m sorry to the Uber driver for the position I put you in. It is uncharacteristic of me and I genuinely apologize. In the past 2 1/2 years my life has been filled with experiences, opportunities and events that have helped me grow, mature and learn, including the fact that I have eliminated alcohol from my life.

“I know I have to hold myself to a higher standard on and off the field and that I have a responsibility to my family, community, and teammates to live above the platform with which God has blessed me. I apologize to my teammates, the Buccaneers organization and fans for letting them down and for not being able to be out there for the first three games of the season. Although I am disappointed in the NFL’s decision, I understand the NFL’s process, and I embrace this as an opportunity to take advantage of the resources available to help me achieve the goals that I have for myself.

“I now look forward to putting this behind me and I will continue to work hard every day to be a positive influence in my community and be the best person, teammate and leader I can be.”

Ah he's eliminated alcohol, problem solved.

I love when people blame their actions on alcohol and drugs and say that now that they've given it up, everything will be a-ok.
"The ambien made me tweet" "The alcohol made me harass" "The drugs made me racist"

I've defended Jameis and but thought the alcohol thing was a weak line. I drink a ton, don't disparage the good name of my booze with your allegedly irresponsible and disgusting behavior.

I disagree. In my experience alcohol and drugs was the primary driver in bad acts and poor decisions.

Eliminating the substance is a good start.
