Football Kutz Column: Don't Panic, Move Forward

I watched the game in person. Have watched a replay. Have read the Osceola's Curt Weiler's and Pat Burnham's takes on the game as well as many of yours on the Osceola Village.
I totally agree it was a disappointing performance in a game I thought FSU would win 24-10.
There are certainly concerns coming out of the game, I agree.
That was last Saturday. Today is Tuesday, an eternity in college football and while I agree with what others have written, there's no purpose in me rehashing what you all saw with your own eyes.

In this column I acknowledge concerns and offer a few of my own observations and perspectives because history tells us very good Florida State teams have been right here before, 0-1 or 0-2 to open the season. There were plenty of questions back then. Was it coaching or a lack of talent caused by lousy recruiting?

Those questions persisted until those slow-starting teams finished 11-1 and 10-2 with a state championship, ACC Championship, Bowl Championship and a top 5 finish. So how did the Bowden staff manage to develop those individuals into a team ? And my thoughts on how will Mike Norvell approach it this week.

Florida State has been knocked down but they are far from knocked out... especially with a 12-team playoff.
It's time to get off the mat, use the film to correct the issues, and move forward.

Softball Ruggiero to play for U-18 US Women's national team

FSU sports information:

Florida State freshman Isabella Ruggiero is gaining some valuable national experience this week as she will be competing with the U-18 US Women's National Team at the WBSC World Cup Group C Stage Event in Dallas, Texas. The Red, White and Blue will be looking to punch its ticket to the U-18 WBSC World Cup which will take place next year. The event will take place from Aug. 29-Sept. 2. Team USA will play five games in a round robin format with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. The four teams will battle for two spots in next year's U-18 WBSC World Cup Finals.

Ruggiero was a top 50 recruit according to Extra Inning Softball and brings another big bat for an explosive Seminole offense. As a senior at the Oxbridge Academy of the Palm Beaches, Ruggiero hit .617 with 16 home runs and 50 RBI. Out of Ruggiero's 37 hits, 26 of them were for extra bases. Ruggiero's 16 home runs led the state of Florida and helped her win the Palm Beach 5A-1A Player of the Year award. Ruggiero also participated in the 2024 Alliance All-Star game in July along with current Seminole Jazzy Francik.

Khori Louis leads FSU volleyball, which seeks to repeat as ACC champs

Thanks to Patrick Nelson for writing on Khori Louis, one of FSU volleyball's stars. They open the season on Friday.

(And, yes, Khori is Corey Louis' daughter)

Football Updates, videos: Mike Norvell, FSU's coordinators (11:30 a.m. Wednesday)

Mike Norvell and FSU's three coordinators will meet with the media on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.

Adam Fuller, Alex Atkins and John Papuchis will follow (in some order).

FSU practiced Tuesday (closed to media). There will be no practice today, as this takes on a Monday-type feel for a game week for the Seminoles. We'll have practice access on Thursday and Friday this week.

We'll have updates below in the thread

Football Gabe Fertitta to step in as FSU's offensive line coach for opener vs. GT

Senior offensive analyst Gabe Fertitta will step in and coach Florida State’s offensive line against Georgia Tech, filling in as Alex Atkins serves a three-game, NCAA-mandated suspension.

Fertitta has been on FSU’s staff since February 2022. He has focused on helping the development of offensive linemen alongside Atkins and graduate assistant Cooper Williams, who moved on to Missouri this offseason.

Atkins has been coaching FSU’s offensive line through camp and will travel with the program to Ireland, but he will not be available on game day. FSU coach Mike Norvell said the Seminoles have used Fertitta as the offensive line coach in their two scrimmages.

Football Recruiting DT commit Kevin Wynn having nice start to senior year

Catching up on some of the highlights from some of the FSU commits from the first few weeks of HS football. DT commit Kevin Wynn has had a really nice start to the season so far.

14 total tackles, 4 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble in two games.

Here is some of the HUDL film that he has posted.

Football After FSU's 0-1 start, taking stock of optimism, realism, pessimism

When you watched FSU vs. Georgia Tech on Saturday, and perhaps a second time on Sunday, it’s likely you frequently asked two questions: Is FSU this bad? And is Georgia Tech this good?

If you’re like us, there’s curiosity about what’s ahead. Where can players develop and improve? Where can aspects of the offense or defense take the next step? And, yes, you’re probably saying “everywhere.”

We’ll take a closer look below at two areas where you should find some optimism, followed by two areas of realism and pessimism as we turn the focus to FSU’s home opener vs. Boston College.
