Baseball Live updates: UCF at FSU, 6 p.m. (ESPN+ stream)

The Tallahassee Regional is officially down to two teams. Florida State has taken down Stetson and UCF to advance in the winner's bracket. UCF defeated Alabama on Friday, lost to FSU on Saturday and then eliminated Stetson on Sunday afternoon in a rain-delayed game 5-2.

FSU (44-15) needs to just win one game Sunday night to win the regional and host a Super Regional. The game is still set for 6 p.m. No TV information has been offered, so for the moment it's at minimum on ESPN+.

RHP Conner Whittaker will likely be on the mound for the Seminoles. In our FSU-UCF notebook, Link Jarrett offered his thoughts on Whittaker late Saturday.

We'll have starting lineups, TV information and more updates here in the thread

Football Recruiting FSU Football Camp June 2: Interviews/video with WR Kaiden Prothro and ATH Derrek Cooper. Plus some 2025/2026 guys to keep tabs on.

After attending different satellite camps from around the country, the Florida State coaching staff hosted the first of six camps in the month of June on Sunday. With over a hundred prospects from the 2025-2028 classes in attendance, the athletes took part in combine testing and positional drills. There were a few standout attendees, including four-star athlete Derrek Cooper and four-star TE/WR Kaiden Prothro, who should be back next week for the Elite Camp. @OsceolaPat and myself were at the practice facility today for the camp and below will be our combined notes and videos taken from the afternoon. We will update this thread throughout the rest of the night while we go through our notes.

Football A closer look at FSU's appeal of NIL-related recruiting penalties

Florida State administrators and football coaches decided to accept unprecedented penalties for NIL-related recruiting violations, which were announced in January. But the world of college athletics — specifically the intersection of NIL, court cases and NCAA enforcement — prompted the athletics department to appeal part of its negotiated agreement.

FSU’s appeal was first reported by Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger on May 17, citing a three-page letter sent to the NCAA. A copy of the letter was provided to the Osceola as part of the state’s open records laws.

Baseball UCF-Stetson game went into weather delay in eighth inning, no update yet on how it affects tonight’s FSU game

The afternoon showers have struck again this weekend at the Tallahassee Regional.

With UCF leading Stetson 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning of the first game today at Dick Howser Stadium, the game has gone into a weather delay due to fairly heavy rain and expected inclement weather.

The good news is the UCF-Stetson game was moving quickly and is near its conclusion. Additionally, this storm isn’t projected to last too long.

There’s no update at this time about how this delay could affect the start time of FSU’s scheduled 6 p.m. game against the winner of this game in the regional championship.

I’ll share any updates as they are provided.

Baseball How should FSU approach its pitching rotation in this week's NCAA Regional?

With only two extended starters, the FSU baseball team enters this week's NCAA Regional with a fascinating dilemma of how to line up its pitching.

I explored the cases for FSU starting Jamie Arnold Friday, going with No. 2 starter Carson Dorsey vs. Stetson and even starting the regional with a bullpen game.

What do you think FSU should do?

Baseball Notes: Jamie Arnold's immaculate inning, Sunday starter, charting HRs

Quite often, fans go to the ballpark and observe something they’ve never seen before. Saturday night could have been just such an occasion.

Florida State left-hander Jamie Arnold struck out the side in the second inning, getting all three batters swinging. But he did it on the minimum nine pitches.

“In high school I was one pitch away and I got hosed on a call, a fastball,” Arnold said. “And the next pitch I threw the same exact pitch and they called it a strike. So I was salty about that since two years ago.”

Baseball Live Updates: FSU-UCF in Tallahassee Regional winner's bracket game (Saturday at 8 p.m., ESPN+)

With one win in hand, the Florida State baseball team is through into the winner's bracket of the Tallahassee Regional. Next up? A Saturday night (8 p.m. on ESPN+) matchup vs. third-seeded UCF for a spot in the regional championship game.

FSU will turn to its ace, sophomore pitcher Jamie Arnold (10-3, 2.45 ERA) for the winner's bracket game against the in-state opponent. UCF will counter with senior righty Ben Vespi (4-3, 4.44), who has pitched 75 innings for the Knights this season, allowing 75 hits and 27 walks with 71 strikeouts.

FSU and UCF did not play this season, but the Seminoles are 39-9 all-time against the Knights and 27-5 in home games vs. UCF. This will be the first time FSU head coach Link Jarrett has coached against UCF head coach Rich Wallace, his former assistant at both FSU and Notre Dame.

Baseball FSU-UCF game Saturday delayed to 8 p.m. due to weather

After a seamless first day of baseball in the Tallahassee Regional Friday, Saturday’s action has been delayed before it even started.

The Alabama-Stetson elimination game that was supposed to begin at noon Saturday at Dick Howser Stadium will not begin on time, FSU announced.

Just after 1 p.m., FSU announced that the Stetson-Alabama game will begin at 3:30 p.m. and tonight’s FSU-UCF game is slated to start at 8 p.m.

Softball FSU mixes pitchers but Oklahoma proves too tough in Supers

Florida State did more than mix pitches. The Seminoles mixed pitchers.

The strategy worked far better than in a game 1 loss to Oklahoma. But the Sooners still proved too powerful at the plate.

Kasidi Pickering hit a two-run homer and Oklahoma also scored a run on a wild pitch as well as another earlier in the night with the benefit of a wild pitch and a passed ball in a 4-2 win over FSU on Friday night in the Super Regionals.

Football Recruiting LB Pettijohn and DE Faulk not expected to visit FSU this weekend

At one time both linebacker Riley Pettijohn and defensive Jakaleb Faulk had official visits scheduled with Florida State this weekend. Sources have told the Osceola that neither player will be on-campus this weekend.

In fact, Pettijohn is reported to be taking an official visit to Ohio State this weekend. He also has visits to Texas, thought to be the leader in his recruitment, and USC scheduled in June. Pettijohn took an unofficial visit to Florida State this spring and at that time the Seminoles were in the mix for the talented linebacker. It was thought that the fact he had a brother attending FAMU would keep the Seminoles in the battle for Pettijohn but those hopes seem to be fading.

Faulk has been committed to Auburn since last August and was always thought to be a long shot for the Seminoles to land. His brother as most of you know plays for the Tigers. So, really his visit not coming to fruition isn't that much of a surprise.

Originally, defensive back Lagonza Hayward was going to make his official visit to FSU this weekend but that has now been pushed back to June.

As of right now, safety Onis Konanbanny is the only prospect expected to be on-campus this weekend.

Official Visit Tracker: Where are FSU's top targets taking official visits to this weekend

FSU is currently only expected to host four-star DB Onis Konanbanny on an official visit this weekend. So, the big question is where the Seminoles' top targets are taking official visits to this weekend. Here is what we know:

Quarterback: Spring Offers

Dia Bell: American Heritage (Fla.) 6-2, 200 (2026) - When I went by AH Plantation this spring, Bell was very impressive. The one thing I look for in a quarterback is anticipation. The ability to throw the ball before the receiver gets to a spot. Bell was able to put the ball where the receivers were going to end up. He is starting to understand the game of football. Here is a kid who as a freshman was 5-8 or 5-9. He now is over 6-2. He is built a little like Jordan Travis. I think he has a good arm. He can make most of the throws asked of him. He is a good athlete but is a true pocket passer. I said at the time FSU should offer, someone must have listened as the offer came not long after.

Brady Hart: Cocoa (Fla.) 6-5, 190 (2026): Hart is a pure pocket passer. He reminds me of John Brantley, who played at Ocala Trinity and signed with UF. He has a good arm. You will see him push the ball down the field. Probably throws as good of a deep ball as you will see. He moves well in the pocket. He can throw well on the run. Hart does a good job of leading his receivers. I feel Hart is more of a fit for an Air Raid offense IMHO. He does have some work that needs to be done on the shorter throws.

Troy Huhn: Mission Hills (Calif.) 6-4, 200 (2026): Wow, turn on his film and I see Aaron Rodgers. He has a super quick release. The ball comes out of his hand really well. I think this is an NFL quarterback. His ball placement is elite. He puts the ball right where the receiver can catch it. He moves around well in the pocket. He can make every throw. The tough thing with all of these out-of-state quarterbacks is you have to see them in person. Bell and Hart are rated ahead of him and honestly off film, I just don't think you can.

Brady Smigiel - Newbury Park (Calif.) 6-4, 190 (2026): Brady is a big quarterback. You are looking at a Brock Osweiler-type quarterback. He is not as smooth as Huhn in the pocket. Has a good arm. He does need some work on his mechanics. Big guys who don't always throw over the top is a concern for me. He seems to either pat the ball or wait to throw it at times. He can throw deep with accuracy. I think he will struggle at times throwing short. He is similar to DJ but without the ability to run.

Luke Fahey - Mission Viejo (Calif.) 6-0, 190 (2026): Like that he takes snaps from center. He moves well in the pocket. He has a strong arm. He can push the ball down the field. He does need to learn to come off his first read. He has some of the same tools that AJ Duffy had. Big arm but throws to his first option. Like to see him check down at times. Always looking for the big play. Can't do that in college. He has tools. I like him more than Smigiel, but I think Huhn is the best of these west coast guys.

Zaid Lott - Providence Day (NC) 6-4, 200 (2026): Most of these quarterbacks are big. Seems like the trend for FSU. Another kid who seems like a first-read QB. This is tough for these guys once in college. You have to come off your first guy and find the second or third option. Another guy with a big arm. He can make the deep outs, he can run deep post. Be interesting to see him throw at a camp. He can run. Reminds me a little of Jacoby Brissett. Brissett was raw but ended up an NFL quarterback. Lott seems to have some of the same qualities.

Brady Edmunds: Huntington Beach (Calif.) 6-5, 200 (2027): California dreaming. It seems like FSU is going to try and pull a Cali quarterback at some point. Big kid. He moves well in the pocket. Will avoid a rush and throw the ball. These guys all have that Patrick Mahomes/Aaron Rodgers mentality — they throw from all angles. Edmunds is that guy. He stands tall in the pocket. He reminds me of Kerry Collins, who played at Penn State. Has a bit of hitch in his throwing motion. He seems uneasy at times. You can see why he landed an offer but needs time to develop. Tools are there but still a ton of work needs to be done. Which is expected out of a 2027 kid.

Faizon Brandon: Grimsley HS (N.C.) 6-4, 200 (2026): I put Brandon in because he was offered this spring and I had the chance to see him in person. Ironically, this kid is built like Jeff Sims. Same body type coming out of high school. He has a nice arm. You will see him push the ball down the field. He can lead a receiver. He does throw off his back foot and sidearm at times. That is something that needs to be corrected. He is a dual threat. He can beat you with his legs. Like to see him get rid of the ball a little quicker. Trust your receivers. Quarterbacks always want to make the perfect throw. You are not making that same throw in college. If a play is called, trust the OC and receivers to make a play.

Fishbits-Updated - 6/1/2024

Vernell Brown - Jones Hs - spoke to someone today who is tied to Brown. Was told that FSU leads for Brown. He is down to Florida and FSU and the Seminoles lead right now. From my understand Ohio State is running third.

Spring high school football and evaluations are now over. FSU is moving on to their summer camps. Over the past couple of years FSU has had mega camps. They seem to be off the table for now. The camps drew more than 1,000 prospects every summer and had colleges from other schools attend. This year FSU coaches will hold their own prospect camps and visit mega camps held at other schools. There are camps held in Texas and Georgia. Look for FSU coaches to pop up at those events.

So now to the bits. What is new?

LB Tavion Wallace (Jesup, Ga., Wayne County, 6-1,210): Linebacker has been an issue in recruiting for FSU the prior few years. It looks like things could start to change with the potential commitment of Wallace. I am going to put a forecast in for FSU as Wallace seems to be finally leaning FSU's way. Wallace is a must get and at a position of need.

Now that Wallace looks like he is going to pull the cord for FSU, who else could FSU land at linebacker? Michael Hastie out of Douglas County, Ga., was recently offered and FSU seems like a potential landing spot. I feel Hastie will have to come to their summer camp to get the final approval before choosing the Noles. They are one of his top programs at this time. Zaydrius Rainey-Sale out of Washington State is potentially taking a visit to FSU this summer. He visited last summer and committed to FSU or looked to be before committing to Alabama. He has since let off of that pledge and FSU could end up being his final option. Tarvos Alford out of Vero Beach was visited by FSU coaches this spring and is an option as well.

RB Byron Louis (Plantation American Heritage, 6-0, 200): We like where FSU sits for Louis. He is the ideal back for coach Mike Norvell and Louis likes FSU. We have said with the production that Norvell has shown at FSU without a big time back this is what would eventually happen. The word develop is what recruits start to look for. When you have two walk-on backs show up and produce, guys like Louis realize their potential can be met at FSU. Louis is leaning towards the Seminoles at this time. The main question right now is who gets the No. 2 spot?

Offensive Line - As we stated before, the OL recruiting has been the best it has been in a very long time at FSU. The rumors about Solomon Thomas have cooled for now. He looks to be FSU's to lose at this point. Thomas has been committed to FSU for quite some time.

OT Ziyare Addison has been a lean but other programs like Georgia have put their hat in the ring. Addison really likes offensive coordinator Alex Atkins and the Noles are the team to beat. These things are always active. So while Addison looks to be leaning towards FSU, we have yet to get the go ahead to put him in FSU camp.

OT Josh Petty from Fellowship Christian School in Georgia has a sister most likely going to FSU from what I have been told. He is someone that FSU is recruiting hard and the work seems to be finally paying off. He would be the best tackle prospect FSU has landed in over a decade.

Max Buchanan and Peyton Joseph are two others who we still feel good about. We will know more after these guys camp in June. I still would not be shocked to see one other guy end up in the class we did not expect.

Defensive End recruiting: FSU's board is slim at this time. You have Javion Hilson, who is committed. The next best option right now is Nick Clayton out of Gainesville Buchholz. He is a project that performed well enough this spring to land an FSU offer. I like his film but want to see more of him in person. Zion Grady is still an option, but we are talking about a prospect from Alabama.

Defensive Back board

New Name to remember:
Onis Konanbanny - I will not even try to say his name. I already have a hard time with most prospects. Watched him this spring at a 7 on 7. Believe he came over from England. Impressive-looking prospect physically. He is visiting FSU and has been added to the board. Look for FSU to get a good look at him in person and pursue him.

To be honest South Florida seems a little down this year in DB prospects. While there are some good players the only elite prospect maybe Ben Hanks from Booker T. Washington. He is going to visit FSU this summer but pulling him could be tough. Gregory Thomas plays corner but we project him as a safety. FSU is fighting Clemson for his services. The relationship with DB coach Patrick Surtain gives FSU the edge. FSU also has a commitment from Ethan Pritchard, who we project as a potential linebacker in college. Max Redmon is my top-rated safety prospect in Florida. He is leaning towards FSU but this is a down year for elite safeties in the state. I don't think Hylton Stubbs is an option at this point. He either sticks with USC or goes to Gatorland.

DT recruiting: News is still positive for Myron Charles. He looks like the sure thing for FSU. We also feel good about Jalen Wiggins, who is committed to UF, but our sources feel that a flip is going to happen at some point. While there are no Timmy Jernigan types in this year’s class FSU is going to refill the depth chart with some good players. Charles and Wiggins would be a very good class.

Baseball Carson Dorsey rises to the occasion in a big way in FSU's regional opener

Even after he had a rough week at the ACC Tournament, FSU put its faith in Carson Dorsey to start its regional opener.

The gamble paid off as he came one out away from FSU’s first complete game in six years to advance FSU into the winner’s bracket.
