My thoughts….

First off this program didn’t start declining just because Jimbo left. I now see that Jimbo left because he saw the writing on the wall that FSU was not all in on football and that the administration were moving towards just an athletic and academic school. A political figure as a president and Wilcox as an AD which neither are football guys.

This program isn’t bought in 100% on my football, it just isn’t. Hence why we have hired 2 subpar football coaches in a row. Nothing I saw from Norvell ever excited me about him coming here. 10-3 8-6 12-1 at Memphis. Outside his last year at Memphis he was subpar. These GO5 coaches are budget hires for teams that are just looking for nice 8-4 9-3 seasons. Just like anything else though you could point out an Urban Meyer but for every one Urban I can point of 50 Willies. By the way… Urban was 22-2 at Utah.

Until FSU gets football first guys in the administration and is willing to go all in on football and is willing to dump bookooz amount of money on everything and anything football then and only then will FSU turn things around. You have to be all in on football and football only to win big in today’s CFB. It is just the way it is. Gone are the days of Frank Beamer and even Bobby Bowden with given 10 -15+ years to build a program. CFB is big business.

I made a post a few weeks back saying I’m happy that we had Norvell instead of Bob Stoops. I said this because Norvell was saying all the right things, doing great things on the recruiting trail and like always I drink the off-season Kool-Aid. Bet your ass, though, that this class will start falling apart. It just will because no way this team wins more than 4 games this season to go along with the very undisciplined sloppy play. Nothing has changed. These recruits have a promising future in football and coming to FSU would just be a horrible business decision.

Now that reality has set in I know this program needs a Bob Stoops to turn things around but a Bob Stoops or anyone else of that caliber would ever come here because of two reasons… One: FSU wouldn’t be willing to pay for them and Two: Coaches of that caliber would want to know that FSU would be all in on football and we are not.

I remember, correct me if I’m wrong, that Bob Stoops was contacted by FSU but he asked for a big amount and wanted complete control of the football program. Also there was talk about him being in the AD position? Well… pffftt. Screw that! Go get that dude from Memphis and call it a day. This program will never be back until football comes first!

Miami, Tennessee, Nebraska… Fsu?

Are we now in a category with these teams? If not for a flash in the pan year with jameis, we’re looking at two decades of below avg to avg play. It doesn’t help that we’re in the acc, apparently money’s an issue, our staff is severely lacking, we have chronic issues dating back a long while, etc. When does it get better or when do we accept our new place?

Games are not won or lost on gameday

I am not going to go into all of the details from the game on why we lost. We all saw it. What I will tell you is that this game was lost during the week. Here’s why:

1. Nonstop praise after the ND game from media, family, friends. This really softened them up and they lost sight of work that needed to be done to prepare. Never seen anything like it. Almost like we had just won the Natty.
2. Spent more time flying around recruiting than actually gameplanning.
3. Nobody on the staff said they could lose this game. Every good coach always talks up their next opponent no matter how bad that opponent is.
Until this team, including coaches, realize the amount of work needed during the week to turn a football program into a well oiled machine during game days we will continue to see the same mistakes week in and week out. The good news is they will learn from this. These kids are different than last year. My concern has shifted to the coaches and if they are actually working hard enough…and if they are working these kids hard enough on details and preparation. I still have faith for what it’s worth. Go Noles.

OK guys. Complain ahead

After the loss against ND I encouraged us to take it easy on the team. After all they are only human. They're still human, and centering issues seemed to get cleared up, but the rest of the team played flat, over confident, and reckless. We played like this was the first game. The number of penalties was totally unacceptable, especially by Dontae Lucas. We played stupid and allowed a team that could not match up with us beat us. There's no reason why we were only up by 3 with a minute and a half to go. We are Florida State, but we played like we're Florida High. Jacksonville State is well coached and they played an intelligent outstanding game. We squandered opportunity after opportunity, and should have been up by at least 3 touchdowns. The coaches need to kick butt and practice hard. Most important, they need to teach this team to play smart with their heads always in the game. Next weeks game at Wake now looks very much in doubt, and we need a lot of luck to hope to get 6 wins.

Honestly this was horrible!..

Honestly, how can you not blame the coaches for this loss!

Offensively - The offensive play calling was stale and redundant. It's become very predictable. The QB play or lack thereof is still a major problem. Yes Milton had some drops but its clear he's not the same player at UCF., right now he's serviceable. I'm sorry Travis is not the answer at QB. The early gimmicky trick plays with both QB's in the game was awful! We should have kept running the ball more and more short passes and screens to get Milton in a rhythm....This is Coaching!.

Defensively - I have said from the very beginning that the DC is in over his head. We routinely give up big chunk plays and routinely have questionable head scratching calls every game, not to mention continuous pass coverage lapses each game and the CB's still don't turn their head to locate the ball. To not play prevent defense on the last 2 plays is Criminal and there is NO justification for not putting your players in the best position to make plays. Yes the 2 DB's should have still made the play, BUT they should have never been put in that position to begin with if he is in prevent defense instead of playing man underneath with 2 over the top., The last 2 weeks we are making these opposing QB's look like All Americans.....This is Coaching!

I have gone on record from the beginning to say yes Coach Norvell is an upgrade over Taggart (which isn't saying much) but he is NOT the answer for our program! He just isn't! There were and is better candidates for our Head Coach. We are FSU and we need a more qualified HC. Until then please for the love of everything Holy fire the DC elevate coach Shannon as the DC AND relinquish play calling to someone else OR at least start doing quality control on the play calling and sets you keep running!

Last thing, I'm in no way endorsing Coach Prime as a candidate to replace Coach Norvell as I seen a post mentioning this. But I will tell you a 100% fact - I was apart of a conversation with my best friend and Coach Prime (we have a mutual close friend) and he's looking to win big at Jackson State for the next 3 to 4 years with his son at QB, but when his QB son is gone to the league he absolutely has his sights on FSU job if Norvell hasn't gotten us on track (our Administration said something to him when he interviewed here that he's holding onto).

Its Not This or That

The whole game was bad. It was sandlot at the beginning and just looked confused at the end. The whole thing was bad. Not this play or that play or this formation or that. The whole performance just sucked.

Now fix it. Fix it all. We have Wake in 7 days. Get ready, be prepared, and win. Then win again the next game. No hype videos, no practice highlights, no friggin uni combos. Just win. Go Noles!

Not Fuller’s fault completely….

I know I’ll get torched for this, but the last call wasn’t why we lost the game. We were in Cover 2 man under with 2 deep safeties.. It wasn’t a bad call considering what the situation was. They ran 4 verticals so the safeties were slower to help. But, that being said, Brownlee has to know he can’t get beat deep in that situation. That’s just dumb, and frankly inexcusable. Zero awareness or football intelligence. It wasn’t even a double move, just a straight 9 route and he was slow to bail and run with him. Worst case, if you get surprised, (which how could you be) and he gets past you, HOLD HIM, TACKLE HIM, TRIP HIM, DO SOMETHING!!! Worst case it’s PI and they only get 15yds and an untimed down. But even after you don’t do that, you make a half ass effort to strip the ball instead of getting him on the ground. Just so tired of seeing stupid fundamentally unsound players.

Was this a fluke loss or bad decision making

Results are only viewable after voting.

The “targeting“ and TD followed by a 60 yard Hail Mary at the end of the day is extremely lucky and sounds like a fluke.

I am tempted to write it off as a fluke… But things we’ve seen in the past two weeks like the 4th down calls, not being in prevent, playing Travis over Milton, formation penalties, using the wildcat over and over etc - these aren’t flukes. They are bad decision making and that’s not fixable.

What do you guys say?

JT with Corbin instead of Wildcat

I think Dilly mismanaged this game by not using JT enough. We went away from the two QB system too quickly. With JT in the game (especially in short yardage situations) the D has to account for an extra ball carrier. I’d much rather take my chances with a read option with JT and Corbin/Ward than Corbin running the wildcat.
Also, Toafali should not be a RB at this level. Too light. He needs to permanently be a slot WR. My .02

Norvell Answer to Q

On last play: "It was a two deep man under. Make sure we tried to get pressure on the quarterback. ... They still had one timeout. Just not to give up something quickly underneath or in the intermediate passing game ... receiver got behind us and we were not able to ...

This is a terrible answer because it gives us insight into his logic. With the time left, you take the risk of them hitting the middle of the field because then they HAVE TO hit the FG to TIE the game. You never go two deep man under in that situation. You go prevent and guard the end zone like Hell because this ain't the NFL, their kicker would probably miss the FG no matter how close. And oh ya, the FG doesn't lose you the game.

Holy Hell.

Perspective

There were multiple times we had numerous true freshman on the field for offense and defense. I’m all for it best man plays but the point is :

can anyone think of a time we had this many freshman play a factor let alone play this many snaps?

its quite shocking of how far we have fallen that a high school kid as of 12 weeks ago is better than current on team FSU talent.
