Plays to be had

This loss is completely unacceptable and did not agree with some of the calls (Obviously the last play, the 4th and goal play, and the wildcat that hasn’t seemed to work at all). However having said that, I felt like more often than not the guys were still in position to make plays on defense and just didn’t. The Jay dropped INT and many of the pass interference calls, the DB’s were there to break up the pass, undercut the receiver or played it well enough they just didn’t need to get a penalty and seemed like every time that’s exactly what happened and those yards added up. On offense, while I hate false starts, it’s 5 yards. Last night I felt like it was constantly, ineligible receiver down field, offensive pass interference, the block below the waste I believe. These didn’t result in 1st and 15 (which I think you can recover from with Milton at QB), they constantly put the offense in 1st and 25 or 2nd and 25. That’s tough to rebound from even if you’re one of the top teams in the country. To consistently put yourselves in those situations is a killer to an offense and I believe that’s what you saw. I honestly believe you take half of the penalties away, you win that game going away. I guess what I’m saying is, I still see bounds of improvement from this team (no where near as many wide open receivers and free lanes to the QB as years past) but this team just doesn’t go make the plays that winning teams do right now, couple that with all the penalties and you get the result on the field.

The most bizarre...

Offensive play calling and personnel choices I’ve ever seen.

3rd and short and they call a low percentage 30-40 yard pass.

Wilcat takes Milton, T.Ward and Travis out of the equation.

No middle screens, draws and limited use of TEs.

I find the playcalling the most bizarre I’ve ever seen. It’s almost as if the O coordinator has no idea of down and distance.

Tons of execution mistakes for sure but this game was lost by the coaching staff.

What was interesting about last night

I was calm throughout the whole game. I don't know why. Even though we sucked the whole game, I was confident we would still somehow pull it out...score late, get the stop, etc.

Then we didn't score late. I was still confident we would get the stop. I kept telling myself Notre Dame barely beat a team they should have destroyed earlier in the day.

Then it happened. Still calm, but in shock and still numb..

Things I do NOT want to hear EVER AGAIN

I never again want to hear 1% better everyday. That BS is done. 1% doesnt cut it. Needs to be 1000% better everyday

I especially do not want to hear any coaches talk accountability if FULLER either isnt fired or he resigns today. I didnt think a play call could have been worse than the blitz on 3rd and 17 last week. Fuller said hold my beer. Lets not do prevent on a 4th down 60 yards away
Same goes for Dugans. How is it even possible to have so any 4 star receivers that cant actually catch a pass!!!

Clark: Why one all-time effort play could be great sign for FSU Football

Column by Corey on some encouraging signs for FSU Football, including one play in particular.

Dillingham in over his head?

I like Kenny and think he will be a good coach, but it seems like he is in over his head. Some of the playcalls are silly and the personnel decisions are worse.

Why run the Wildcat package with Corbin? It's too predictable, whereas a RPO or QB run with Travis makes more sense because the defense at least has to respect the pass.

Why is Toafili in on short yardage? Corbin and Ward are tougher runners with better understanding. You can't bounce outside on short yardage.

Why throw a fade to a true freshman on 4th and short? McClain is going to be a great player, but that was a bad decision by Norvell (not to kick the FG) and compounded by a worse playcall.

Why is Wyatt Rector a short yardage lead blocker over a guy like Jordan Wilson, Preston Daniel or DJ Lundy?
