Football Recruiting So we’re just outside the top 50 now…

Read we lost another and are outside the top 50 now. I’m not a recruitnik but this is a mess. It seems we’d already had too much portal focus and average recruiting, and now it seems we’ve not just lost momentum but maybe reversed it.

It looks like we’ve a lot to deal with. Suit not going quickly at all. Bottom falling out of team. All while pushing for more money. Losing ratings badly when we need them most.

Should I be as worried as I am about recruiting? I think even with money there it’s not easy to get these kids. And we’re not offering anything now to make kids pick us over even decent P2 programs.

Football Second Look Sunday: FSU vs. Duke

This may a truncated version of Second Look Sunday due to a couple of things, one Mike and his staff are meeting with the media today instead of Monday and the team is practicing tomorrow instead of today and I and we plan on attending so I might not have enough time to get through the entire game by tomorrow morning.

That being said, I would he happy to answer some of your questions on the game if you have any about the game?

A couple of obvious things, the defense played well enough to win the game. You aren't going to beat anyone when you turn the ball over four times, just ask Texas who did the same thing last night vs. Georgia. And despite all of that, FSU is three dropped passes away from having at least 13 more points on the board.

Malik Benson's drop in the first half, would have led to at least a field goal. Poiter dropped a TD pass and if Hykeem Williams doesn't drop the ball in the second half inside the Duke 30 and likely would have gotten a field goal out of that drive.

The bad news is Duke beat FSU without even trying to move the ball on FSU. They knew they couldn't run the ball on FSU but continued to do so to shorten the game. Manny Diaz knew that FSU couldn't move the ball consistently on his defense and wanted to do just enough on offense to get out the game with a win. Duke attempted in second fewest passes of the season vs. FSU on Friday.

Football Sam Singleton named ACC's specialist of the week

FSU sports information:

Florida State redshirt freshman kick returner Samuel Singleton Jr. is the ACC Specialist of the Week after a career day Friday night at Duke. He is FSU’s second Specialist of the Week after kicker Ryan Fitzgerald earned the honor against Georgia Tech.

Singleton, from Charleston, S.C., returned four kickoffs for 165 yards, including a 95-yard touchdown to open the second half. Entering the game, Singleton had returned just one kick in his career, earlier this season against Clemson.

The 95-yard touchdown is tied for the 19th-longest in FSU history and was the first of Singleton’s career. His 165 kick return yards are seventh in FSU history and tied for the third-most in the country this season.

Singleton’s 165 kickoff return yards are the most for a freshman this season and he is the only Power 4 freshman with a kickoff return touchdown this year. Before Singleton, the last FSU freshman to take a kickoff return to the end zone was Kermit Whitfield who did it twice in 2013.

Florida State is one of two schools with a kickoff return touchdown each of the last three seasons. Head coach Mike Norvell has now had 14 kickoff return touchdowns in his nine seasons as head coach.

Football FSU enters Miami week 'evaluating all things' when it comes to QB reps

Mike Norvell said FSU will be evaluating all things this week when asked about the state of the QB position and if Luke Kromenhoek could make another appearance this upcoming week at No. 6 Miami.

Alex Atkins seemed to indicate Brock Glenn will get the start, but neither of them seemed to rule out the freshman getting some action for the second straight week.

Football Recruiting An Organized Look at the current 2025 Recruiting Board

It may not seem like it but early signing day is just under two months away. There was a lot of activity on the recruiting trail last week for Florida State as they were on the bye week. Soccer FSU routs Pitt 7-1

FSU sports information:

The No. 22 Florida State soccer team (10-2-2, 5-2-1) dominated Pittsburgh 7-1 in the Seminole Heritage game on Sunday afternoon. The Seminoles extended their 24-game unbeaten streak at home and scored the second most goals in a single game this season.

Florida State scored seven goals over the Panthers, this marks the first time the Seminoles have scored seven goals against a conference opponent since the 7-0 victory over Clemson in 2012.

FSU brought the heat early as Jordynn Dudley weaved through defenders to score less than five minutes into the first half. Dudley scored her fourth goal of the season and is currently averaging two points a start.

Wrianna Hudson came off the bench and made an immediate impact as she struck her shot into the back of the net before registering a second goal with less than a minute left in the first half. Hudson recorded her first career multi-goal game and moved to second in team goals.

Florida State continued to establish physical play through the second half, putting consistent pressure on Pittsburgh’s defense. Solai Washington laid off a pass to Huff and she tucked away her tenth goal of the season. Huff joins the double-digit scoring club and becomes just the fourth Seminole in the past five seasons to score 10+ goals.

Following Pittsburgh’s lone goal on the day, Washington made her way onto the scoring sheet as she curled her hammering effort past the keeper to make it a handful. The freshman has scored in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.

Defender Heather Gilchrist scored her first collegiate goal off a corner kick before Giana Riley fought hard for a breakaway goal with only 52 seconds left in the game.

Florida State will hold Senior Day in its final regular season home game against No. 4 North Carolina on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and available to stream on ACC Network Extra.

FSU volleyball cruises to three-set win over Syracuse

FSU sports information:

There was little drama on Sunday afternoon as the No. 19 Florida State volleyball team (14-4, 6-2) cruised to a sweep (25-15, 25-22, 25-14) over Syracuse (12-8, 0-8) on Sunday afternoon at the Women's Building in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Noles controlled the first set from start to finish as they never surrendered the lead as they ran away with the set by a score of 25-15. The Noles hit .379 while holding Syracuse to a .071 hitting percentage.

The second set was much closer as they team traded runs in the early part of the set, but FSU ultimately led 15-11 at the halfway point. The Orange slowly chipped away at the Seminoles' lead and eventually took a 21-20 lead. Khori Louis responded with a kill and a block to give the Noles the lead, and FSU used a 3-0 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Orange looked to have some momentum in the third set as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but FSU used an 8-1 run to take the momentum back. The Noles never let the Orange come within three points as they rolled to a 25-14 match-clinching victory.

Louis returned to her efficient ways as she had a game-high 14 kills on 23 attempts while also adding four blocks. Audrey Koenig reached double digit kills for the 15th consecutive match while also leading the team with 11 digs.

The Noles will continue play next Friday night at North Carolina at 7 p.m. on ACCNX.

One good thing about the portal. . .

I wonder if we do end up going after a new O-line coach, obviously going after a proven coach and a bigger name at the position. . .he could "encourage" some of the O-line for whatever school he is coaching to maybe follow him to his new home. New coach, and immediate talent to come with him. Like we said, the portal will allow teams to go from 12-0 to 0-12 and back to 12-0 again in a blink it seems.

Football FSU's QBs have struggled but there are more pressing offensive issues

FSU's quarterbacks have struggled, but the Seminoles aren't playing well around the quarterback. The Seminoles have tried veteran linemen and younger linemen, experienced receivers and younger ones, older tight ends and freshmen.

Whether it has been pass blocking or run blocking, the issues have been persistent. As have the drops, a season-long issue with three more in the 23-16 loss to Duke on Friday.

Football QB strategy remainder of year

I have heard some talk about how/when to get LK in the game. I think it makes sense, but I also think we are at a bit of a cross roads. The season is done. Nothing Luke can do will change that.

I think it's hard for MN to put LK in any game until the last four. Why? Luke does not want to but his ship this year for nothing. It makes no sense at all to play him a little bit in a fifth game. In fact, it would seem very dismissive of his career to do that.

As of now, we only have two QBs. DJU is hurt and out for the season so can't play even if we want him to. What happens if we put Luke in for a few drives this week and/or next, then Brock gets hurt and Luke HAS to play out the final games?

We are seeing more and more kids opt out versus using their shirt. I don't think he'd do that, but it does represent what a big deal it is for these kids. And it is. It's another year to play. Another year to make money.
