Football Recruiting LB Pettijohn and DE Faulk not expected to visit FSU this weekend

At one time both linebacker Riley Pettijohn and defensive Jakaleb Faulk had official visits scheduled with Florida State this weekend. Sources have told the Osceola that neither player will be on-campus this weekend.

In fact, Pettijohn is reported to be taking an official visit to Ohio State this weekend. He also has visits to Texas, thought to be the leader in his recruitment, and USC scheduled in June. Pettijohn took an unofficial visit to Florida State this spring and at that time the Seminoles were in the mix for the talented linebacker. It was thought that the fact he had a brother attending FAMU would keep the Seminoles in the battle for Pettijohn but those hopes seem to be fading.

Faulk has been committed to Auburn since last August and was always thought to be a long shot for the Seminoles to land. His brother as most of you know plays for the Tigers. So, really his visit not coming to fruition isn't that much of a surprise.

Originally, defensive back Lagonza Hayward was going to make his official visit to FSU this weekend but that has now been pushed back to June.

As of right now, safety Onis Konanbanny is the only prospect expected to be on-campus this weekend.

Official Visit Tracker: Where are FSU's top targets taking official visits to this weekend

FSU is currently only expected to host four-star DB Onis Konanbanny on an official visit this weekend. So, the big question is where the Seminoles' top targets are taking official visits to this weekend. Here is what we know:

Quarterback: Spring Offers

Dia Bell: American Heritage (Fla.) 6-2, 200 (2026) - When I went by AH Plantation this spring, Bell was very impressive. The one thing I look for in a quarterback is anticipation. The ability to throw the ball before the receiver gets to a spot. Bell was able to put the ball where the receivers were going to end up. He is starting to understand the game of football. Here is a kid who as a freshman was 5-8 or 5-9. He now is over 6-2. He is built a little like Jordan Travis. I think he has a good arm. He can make most of the throws asked of him. He is a good athlete but is a true pocket passer. I said at the time FSU should offer, someone must have listened as the offer came not long after.

Brady Hart: Cocoa (Fla.) 6-5, 190 (2026): Hart is a pure pocket passer. He reminds me of John Brantley, who played at Ocala Trinity and signed with UF. He has a good arm. You will see him push the ball down the field. Probably throws as good of a deep ball as you will see. He moves well in the pocket. He can throw well on the run. Hart does a good job of leading his receivers. I feel Hart is more of a fit for an Air Raid offense IMHO. He does have some work that needs to be done on the shorter throws.

Troy Huhn: Mission Hills (Calif.) 6-4, 200 (2026): Wow, turn on his film and I see Aaron Rodgers. He has a super quick release. The ball comes out of his hand really well. I think this is an NFL quarterback. His ball placement is elite. He puts the ball right where the receiver can catch it. He moves around well in the pocket. He can make every throw. The tough thing with all of these out-of-state quarterbacks is you have to see them in person. Bell and Hart are rated ahead of him and honestly off film, I just don't think you can.

Brady Smigiel - Newbury Park (Calif.) 6-4, 190 (2026): Brady is a big quarterback. You are looking at a Brock Osweiler-type quarterback. He is not as smooth as Huhn in the pocket. Has a good arm. He does need some work on his mechanics. Big guys who don't always throw over the top is a concern for me. He seems to either pat the ball or wait to throw it at times. He can throw deep with accuracy. I think he will struggle at times throwing short. He is similar to DJ but without the ability to run.

Luke Fahey - Mission Viejo (Calif.) 6-0, 190 (2026): Like that he takes snaps from center. He moves well in the pocket. He has a strong arm. He can push the ball down the field. He does need to learn to come off his first read. He has some of the same tools that AJ Duffy had. Big arm but throws to his first option. Like to see him check down at times. Always looking for the big play. Can't do that in college. He has tools. I like him more than Smigiel, but I think Huhn is the best of these west coast guys.

Zaid Lott - Providence Day (NC) 6-4, 200 (2026): Most of these quarterbacks are big. Seems like the trend for FSU. Another kid who seems like a first-read QB. This is tough for these guys once in college. You have to come off your first guy and find the second or third option. Another guy with a big arm. He can make the deep outs, he can run deep post. Be interesting to see him throw at a camp. He can run. Reminds me a little of Jacoby Brissett. Brissett was raw but ended up an NFL quarterback. Lott seems to have some of the same qualities.

Brady Edmunds: Huntington Beach (Calif.) 6-5, 200 (2027): California dreaming. It seems like FSU is going to try and pull a Cali quarterback at some point. Big kid. He moves well in the pocket. Will avoid a rush and throw the ball. These guys all have that Patrick Mahomes/Aaron Rodgers mentality — they throw from all angles. Edmunds is that guy. He stands tall in the pocket. He reminds me of Kerry Collins, who played at Penn State. Has a bit of hitch in his throwing motion. He seems uneasy at times. You can see why he landed an offer but needs time to develop. Tools are there but still a ton of work needs to be done. Which is expected out of a 2027 kid.

Faizon Brandon: Grimsley HS (N.C.) 6-4, 200 (2026): I put Brandon in because he was offered this spring and I had the chance to see him in person. Ironically, this kid is built like Jeff Sims. Same body type coming out of high school. He has a nice arm. You will see him push the ball down the field. He can lead a receiver. He does throw off his back foot and sidearm at times. That is something that needs to be corrected. He is a dual threat. He can beat you with his legs. Like to see him get rid of the ball a little quicker. Trust your receivers. Quarterbacks always want to make the perfect throw. You are not making that same throw in college. If a play is called, trust the OC and receivers to make a play.

Fishbits-Updated - 6/1/2024

Vernell Brown - Jones Hs - spoke to someone today who is tied to Brown. Was told that FSU leads for Brown. He is down to Florida and FSU and the Seminoles lead right now. From my understand Ohio State is running third.

Spring high school football and evaluations are now over. FSU is moving on to their summer camps. Over the past couple of years FSU has had mega camps. They seem to be off the table for now. The camps drew more than 1,000 prospects every summer and had colleges from other schools attend. This year FSU coaches will hold their own prospect camps and visit mega camps held at other schools. There are camps held in Texas and Georgia. Look for FSU coaches to pop up at those events.

So now to the bits. What is new?

LB Tavion Wallace (Jesup, Ga., Wayne County, 6-1,210): Linebacker has been an issue in recruiting for FSU the prior few years. It looks like things could start to change with the potential commitment of Wallace. I am going to put a forecast in for FSU as Wallace seems to be finally leaning FSU's way. Wallace is a must get and at a position of need.

Now that Wallace looks like he is going to pull the cord for FSU, who else could FSU land at linebacker? Michael Hastie out of Douglas County, Ga., was recently offered and FSU seems like a potential landing spot. I feel Hastie will have to come to their summer camp to get the final approval before choosing the Noles. They are one of his top programs at this time. Zaydrius Rainey-Sale out of Washington State is potentially taking a visit to FSU this summer. He visited last summer and committed to FSU or looked to be before committing to Alabama. He has since let off of that pledge and FSU could end up being his final option. Tarvos Alford out of Vero Beach was visited by FSU coaches this spring and is an option as well.

RB Byron Louis (Plantation American Heritage, 6-0, 200): We like where FSU sits for Louis. He is the ideal back for coach Mike Norvell and Louis likes FSU. We have said with the production that Norvell has shown at FSU without a big time back this is what would eventually happen. The word develop is what recruits start to look for. When you have two walk-on backs show up and produce, guys like Louis realize their potential can be met at FSU. Louis is leaning towards the Seminoles at this time. The main question right now is who gets the No. 2 spot?

Offensive Line - As we stated before, the OL recruiting has been the best it has been in a very long time at FSU. The rumors about Solomon Thomas have cooled for now. He looks to be FSU's to lose at this point. Thomas has been committed to FSU for quite some time.

OT Ziyare Addison has been a lean but other programs like Georgia have put their hat in the ring. Addison really likes offensive coordinator Alex Atkins and the Noles are the team to beat. These things are always active. So while Addison looks to be leaning towards FSU, we have yet to get the go ahead to put him in FSU camp.

OT Josh Petty from Fellowship Christian School in Georgia has a sister most likely going to FSU from what I have been told. He is someone that FSU is recruiting hard and the work seems to be finally paying off. He would be the best tackle prospect FSU has landed in over a decade.

Max Buchanan and Peyton Joseph are two others who we still feel good about. We will know more after these guys camp in June. I still would not be shocked to see one other guy end up in the class we did not expect.

Defensive End recruiting: FSU's board is slim at this time. You have Javion Hilson, who is committed. The next best option right now is Nick Clayton out of Gainesville Buchholz. He is a project that performed well enough this spring to land an FSU offer. I like his film but want to see more of him in person. Zion Grady is still an option, but we are talking about a prospect from Alabama.

Defensive Back board

New Name to remember:
Onis Konanbanny - I will not even try to say his name. I already have a hard time with most prospects. Watched him this spring at a 7 on 7. Believe he came over from England. Impressive-looking prospect physically. He is visiting FSU and has been added to the board. Look for FSU to get a good look at him in person and pursue him.

To be honest South Florida seems a little down this year in DB prospects. While there are some good players the only elite prospect maybe Ben Hanks from Booker T. Washington. He is going to visit FSU this summer but pulling him could be tough. Gregory Thomas plays corner but we project him as a safety. FSU is fighting Clemson for his services. The relationship with DB coach Patrick Surtain gives FSU the edge. FSU also has a commitment from Ethan Pritchard, who we project as a potential linebacker in college. Max Redmon is my top-rated safety prospect in Florida. He is leaning towards FSU but this is a down year for elite safeties in the state. I don't think Hylton Stubbs is an option at this point. He either sticks with USC or goes to Gatorland.

DT recruiting: News is still positive for Myron Charles. He looks like the sure thing for FSU. We also feel good about Jalen Wiggins, who is committed to UF, but our sources feel that a flip is going to happen at some point. While there are no Timmy Jernigan types in this year’s class FSU is going to refill the depth chart with some good players. Charles and Wiggins would be a very good class.

Baseball Carson Dorsey rises to the occasion in a big way in FSU's regional opener

Even after he had a rough week at the ACC Tournament, FSU put its faith in Carson Dorsey to start its regional opener.

The gamble paid off as he came one out away from FSU’s first complete game in six years to advance FSU into the winner’s bracket.

Golf PGSF FedEx Cup Week 21: The Charles Schwab Challenge

charles-schwab-htw1-2023.jpg

The PGA TOUR returns to Colonial Country Club for the Charles Schwab Challenge – the longest-running host venue among non-majors on the PGA TOUR schedule.
But for this year, the best in the world are set to take on a restored and renovated Colonial. The effort began the day after last year’s Charles Schwab Challenge and the crew has been sprinting to the finish as they await the TOUR’s best to tee it up this week.
The field is chock-full of notable names ready to take on Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner’s newest effort – a nod to the original Perry Maxwell design with plenty of modern touches.

Led by the Texas two-step of Scottie Scheffler and past winner Jordan Spieth, it’s set to be another great week in the Lone Star State.
Here’s everything else you need to know as the PGA TOUR returns to Fort Worth.
FIELD NOTES: Scheffler leads the way at Colonial. Scheffler recorded his 10th top-10 finish in 11 events so far in 2024 at the PGA Championship – a week unlike any other for him. His last two results at the Charles Schwab Challenge have been T3-T2… Collin Morikawa, fresh off a T4 at the PGA Championship, returns to Colonial. Morikawa has never missed the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge with his highest-ever finish coming in 2020 when he finished runner-up… Emiliano Grillo returns to defend, looking to become the first back-to-back winner at Colonial since Ben Hogan in the 1950s… Spieth is hoping for a nice bounce-back at the Charles Schwab Challenge after missing the cut a year ago. Prior to that, Spieth finished in the top 10 in seven out of eight years. He has three runner-ups at Colonial and a win in 2016… A pair of past FedExCup champions in Billy Horschel and Justin Rose are looking to capitalize on their momentum from the PGA Championship. Horschel finished T8 at Valhalla Golf Club – his first major championship top-10 result since 2013 – and Rose finished T6. Rose won at Colonial in 2018… Tom Kim, who now lives in Dallas, will make his debut at Colonial. Kim has made his last five cuts in a row, including a T26 at the PGA Championship… Max Homa returns to Colonial after a T9 a year ago – his best result in five tries.

SPONSOR EXEMPTIONS: Both Coody twins – Parker and Pierceson – earned sponsor invites into Colonial. Parker was one of two (along with Max Greyserman) who make up the Champions' Choice selections. Pierceson was a Champions' Choice last year. It’s a long-running tournament tradition for past champions to select two players to join the field who would have not otherwise qualified… Major champions Zach Johnson, Webb Simpson and Jimmy Walker got sponsor exemptions along with past FedExCup champ Brandt Snedeker and Olympic medalist Rory Sabbatini… Colonial member Ryan Palmer – who was instrumental in getting the renovation plans pushed to the finish line – is in the field… A pair of SMU alums in Mac Meissner and Austin Smotherman garnered sponsor invites. Meissner’s best result this season was a T10 at the Valero Texas Open and he comes into the week after a T13 at the Myrtle Beach Classic. Smotherman has made five of six cuts so far this season… Rounding out the sponsor exemptions are TOUR rookie Tom Whitney and Michael Block, who had a year unlike any other after finishing T15 at the PGA Championship a year ago.
SIGNATURE EVENT STORYLINES: The next Signature Event on the PGA TOUR schedule is the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday… The top FedExCup points earners from the Myrtle Beach Classic, Charles Schwab Challenge, and RBC Canadian Open will earn spots… After finishing T4 at the PGA Championship, Thomas Detry moves to up eight spots to No. 6 in the Aon Next 10. Taylor Pendrith, after a missed cut at Valhalla, slides out to No. 11… After his win in Myrtle Beach, Chris Gotterup leads the Aon Swing 5, with Davis Thompson in the No. 2 position and a sixsome of golfers all fighting for the final three spots. Those standings were unchanged after the PGA Championship.
COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: Despite Xander Schauffele’s major-winning effort at the PGA Championship, he remains in second in the TOUR TOP 10 standings to SchefflerShane Lowry, after finishing T6 at the PGA Championship, jumps inside the TOUR TOP 10 from No. 16 to No. 10… Morikawa also makes a move inside the standings from No. 11 to No. 8 after finishing T4 at Valhalla… All of Nos. 1 through 7 in the standings remained the same, while Hideki Matsuyama slid from No. 8 to No. 9.
FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 500 FedExCup points.
COURSE: Colonial Country Club, par 70, 7,289 yards. Gil Hanse’s ambitious $25-million restoration of the venerable Dallas layout – which began shortly after the final putt dropped last year – is completed. Hanse was tasked with returning the course to its original look when it first opened in 1936. According to the Dallas News, 90-120 workers put in a 12-hour-a-day effort, six days per week. The club has seen partial restoration projects previously, but talks of an intensive re-work began about a decade ago when the club needed to replace an old irrigation system. Hanse restored Tulsa’s Southern Hills Country Club, the 2022 PGA Championship host, (and another Perry Maxwell design) so he was deemed a natural choice. Greens were relocated, bunkers were removed, previously elevated greens have been lowered, and some sightlines have been made cleaner.
72-HOLE RECORD: 259, Zach Johnson (2010).
18-HOLE RECORD: 61, Keith Clearwater (Round 2, 1993), Lee Janzen (Round 4, 1993), Greg Kraft (Round 3, 1999), Kenny Perry (Round 3, 2003), Justin Leonard (Round 4, 2003), Chad Campbell (Round 3, 2004), Kevin Na (Round 4, 2018).
LAST TIME: Grillo won for the second time in his PGA TOUR career after topping Adam Schenk in a playoff. Grillo saved himself from a potentially disastrous collapse after knocking his tee shot on the second playoff hole (the par-3 16th) to just five feet. He blew a two-stroke lead with a double-bogey on the 72nd hole. Schenk made an 8-foot birdie putt on No. 16 – his only birdie of the round – and then parred Nos. 17 and 18 to remain tied for Grillo. The pair traded pars on the first playoff hole before Grillo stuck his tee shot on the second extra hole and converted the birdie for his first win in seven years. Scheffler finished tied for third along with Harry Hall – who had had the first- and second-round lead – after Scheffler made his second-career ace on TOUR. He shot 67 to finish one shot back of the playoff.

Baseball Live Updates: FSU opens Tallahassee Regional vs. Stetson (Friday at noon on ACC Network)

For the first time since 2018, the Florida State baseball team will host an NCAA Regional this weekend.

FSU's first home postseason game in six years will be played Friday at noon when the No. 8 overall seed Seminoles (42-15) take on No. 4 seed Stetson (40-20) at Dick Howser Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network and 100.7 FM/seminoles.leanplayer.com for the radio broadcast.

FSU will have its hands full against the Hatters Friday afternoon. Stetson is the No. 4 seed in a regional that has won 40 games this season entering this weekend. Additionally, Stetson's 100 RPI is the second-highest of all the four seeds behind only Evansville (76). The Seminoles and Hatters split the regular-season series this year, with FSU winning 1-0 in Tallahassee on March 19 and Stetson winning 10-5 in Deland on May 14. FSU leads the all-time series vs. Stetson 68-26 and is 43-11 all-time vs. the Hatters in home games.

FSU head coach Link Jarrett announced Thursday that the Seminoles will use junior lefty Carson Dorsey (5-4, 5.53 ERA) for the opening game, electing to save their ace, Jamie Arnold, for Saturday. Dorsey did allow eight runs over one inning of work last week in the ACC Tournament, but he had a 3.76 ERA since entering the weekend rotation midway through the season before last week and has a 2.67 ERA in home games this season. Dorsey recorded a save in FSU's home win over Stetson earlier this season, retiring all three batters he faced.

Stetson is starting junior right-handed pitcher Dylan Jacobs (1-1, 4.93), a former Seminole who transferred to Stetson after one season at FSU in 2022. Jacobs started the Hatters' win over FSU in Deland a few weeks ago, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits over 5.1 innings of work. Over 49.1 innings this season, Jacobs has allowed 67 hits (19 extra-base hits), walked 21 batters and struck out 44. Starting lineups will be posted here once they are shared.

Bob and I will be at Howser all weekend providing updates starting today once the game gets underway.

Football New details of Florida State seen in the latest College Football 25 Trailer

Early this morning, EA Sports released a 'deep dive' trailer talking about the gameplay in the highly anticipated EA Sports College Football 25. The Seminoles got some extended screen time this go around, as we got a great sneak peek as to how Doak Campbell Stadium will look in the video game. Additionally, we got our first look at the South End Zone and the recreation of the 'Champions Club'. In the same screenshot, we see was appears to be a fictional player (potentially one used in Dynasty game modes) running back a kickoff against Florida.

In another screenshot, we get some more confirmation about players in the game. From left to right:

Malik Benson, Ja'Khi Douglas, Darius Washington, Terrance Ferguson, Maurice Smith, Keiondre Jones, Jeremiah Byers, Kyle Morlock, Kentron Portier.

In the backfield: Lawrance Toafili and DJ Uiagalelei.

Finally, in a screenshot provided in gameplay by content creator and YouTuber 'Bordeaux', we get a glimpse of Florida State playing Pitt at night.

Football Recruiting Rivals250 S Jordan Young begins a busy summer with Clemson this weekend

From Rivals' Sam Spiegelman:

After narrowing his focus down to eight schools, four-star playmaking safety Jordan Young has continued to press forward throughout the spring and into a pivotal stretch this summer.

Wide Receivers Spring Offer

Darryion Williams: Gaither HS (FL) 6’0-170 (2026) Committed to FSU:
Williams is a two way standout. He plays receiver and cornerback. I like athletes. Prospects that can play more than one position. You will see him catch the ball and pull away from defenders. He is a threat to make something happen after the catch. He sees the ball very well. His body control is very good. He can catch the ball over either shoulder. He does allow the ball to get into his body. I would like to see him extend his hands more and catch the ball away from his body.

Chris Henry-Mater Dei (CA) 6’5-190 (2026) (Committed to Ohio State) Believe this kid is the son of Chris Henry who played at West Virginia and went onto the NFL. He is a big, long, athletic receiver. One thing you notice on film is his ability to run routes. He will put his foot in the ground and get separation. He is smooth. Not sure what type of speed he has. He will get behind a secondary but on film you don't really see him pull away from defensive backs. He has good ball skills. He adjust well to the football in the air. He is committed to Ohio State. They continue to pull in the top flight receivers.

Kayden Dixon-Wyatt: Mater Dei –(CA) 6’1-175 (2026): Comes from Cali and looks like the receivers that USC always seems to land. If he is even, he is leaving. You better get a hand on him. He has very good body control. You can put the ball over either shoulder and he will catch it. He is able to adjust as well as any receiver you see on film. He seems to be the one player on this list who has some speed and quickness. The only issue I see is the defensive backs that Wyatt goes against are not very good.

Dyzier Carter-Woodberry (VA) 6’0-180 (2026): Here is a kid who finds the soft spot of the defense, sits down and catches the football. He is someone that runs good routes. He is dangerous on special teams. He is a one move and go type receiver. You will see him pull away from defenders. He has the ability to get separation. Carter is a receiver that you want to get the football in his hands and let him do his thing. Like Carter's film more than some of guys on the list.

George Lamons: Brooks County HS (GA) 6’4-180 (2026) : Lamons is another big receiver on the board. Displays pretty good hands on film. He runs decent routes. He is raw but you can see the upside. What you have to like is his subtle movements for him to get separation. Even when teams play off of Lamons, he is still able to get separation. He goes and gets the football. Good athlete and you can see why FSU offered him a scholarship.

Brody Keefe-Myers Park-(NC) 6’2-190 (2026): Keefe is a receiver that goes up and gets the football. He will extend his arms and hands to catch the ball. He is not a body catcher. He has very good hands. You can see him snatch the ball out of the air. He has good but not great speed. He is someone that if you need a key third down catch, he will come down with the football.

Xavier McDonald: Morton HS (MS) 6’2-160 (2026): FSU is trying to get into the state of Mississippi. McDonald is another big time receiver from there. He runs smooth. He does need a little work on his route running. He adjust well to the football in the air. You will see him catch the ball and make a defender miss. He has some nice size and speed. Like to see more of him.

Jaylen Pile: Parish Episcopal (TX) 6’1-170 (2026): Like to see him get better separation off the line of scrimmage. He comes down with the 50/50 balls but will he have that same success in college. He allows the ball to come down to him. Like to see him high point the football. This kid is a solid receiver but would need to see him person to give a full evaluation. Off film he would be lower on my list of prospects at receiver that FSU should go after.

2027 Offers
Julius Jones: Saint Thomas Aquinas-5’11-160 (2027)
: Jones father played at Notre Dame. Julius Jr has his coming out party during the state title game last year. He is probably one of the best young prospects in South Florida. He has the speed and quickness to change a game on one play. He has very good body control. Put the ball up and let him go and get it. You would like for him to have a growth spurt. If not Jones should make a very good slot receiver.

Ahmari Stevens: Saint Thomas Aquinas -6’0-170 (2027): Saint Thomas has had some great pairs at receiver. Rashad Green and Phillip Dorsett. James Madison and Chance Robinson a year ago. Julius Jones and Stevens are the new dynamic duo. Stevens is a track kid who will run by defenders. He does need to get a little bit bigger and stronger. He is someone that can catch a five yard hitch and get into the end-zone. He is a difference maker with the ball in his hands.

Baseball LHP Carson Dorsey to start for FSU vs. Stetson

Carson Dorsey will start vs. Stetson, also an update on Cam Leiter. I have added some quotes from Link Jarrett on Dorsey as well as Leiter (video is in the story as well as below):

Baseball In a few years' time, Jamie Arnold has gone from non-pitcher to FSU ace

Jamie Arnold has always been a natural athlete, learning how to do a walking handstand at 3. But he didn't really start pitching until high school. In five years, he's gone from a kid who couldn't throw strikes to one of the best pitchers in all of college baseball right now.

Here's my in-depth feature on the FSU ace pitcher with quotes from family members, current and former coaches and Arnold himself.

A source familiar with the rising junior's recruitment indicated to the Osceola that Waters will likely not remain uncommitted long, and that Florida is likely to end up with a commitment from the rising junior in the near future.

Golf FSU men's golf falls 3-2 to Auburn in NCAA Championship Final

From FSU Sports Information:

No. 5 National Seed Florida State Men’s Golf fell to Auburn in Wednesday’s NCAA Golf National Championship, 3-2, at the Omni La Costa North Course in Carlsbad, Calif.

The match was about as close as it gets, with each team securing two wins apiece before coming down to the anchor match. In the end, Auburn’s J.M. Butler was able to put away the Seminoles on the 17th hole to defeat FSU’s Luke Clanton, 2&1.

Despite the loss, the 2024 Seminoles made program history by becoming the first FSU squad to reach the National Championship Match. It also marked their first time reaching Match Play in consecutive years.

“I’m just gutted for them right now,” FSU Head Coach Trey Jones said to the GOLF Channel afterward. “I know runner-up in a National Championship is something we’ll look back on as a good season – this team never finished out of the Top 5 all year along – but we came here to win. It’s disappointing.”

Freshman Tyler Weaver went 3-0 in NCAA Championship Match Play, getting a 2&1 win over Josiah Gilbert on Wednesday to put FSU’s first point on the scoreboard and tie the match officially at 1-1. After sitting out all four stroke play rounds, the ACC Freshman of the Year subbed in and got three impressive match-play wins over North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Auburn. A par on the 17th hole gave Weaver the win.

Graduate golfer Cole Anderson won his last match by taking down Carson Bacha, 1UP, as Anderson had to hang on during the 18th hole. Anderson led Bacha 3UP through 15 holes, but the Auburn Tiger came back to win holes No. 16 and 17 before Anderson held off the rally on 18 with a beautiful chip shot right by the hole. A missed par putt by Bacha secured the win.

Anderson, Frederik Kjettrup, Brett Roberts and Gray Albright leave as one of the most decorated senior classes in program history. Anderson, Kjettrup and Roberts each made their fourth NCAA Championships appearance, while Albright enjoyed a historic season capped by an All-ACC Team selection.

Sophomore Luke Clanton recorded one of the best single seasons in program history, and figures to enter next year as one of the most accomplished returning players.

Clanton Named Division I PING First-Team All-American

During Wednesday’s National Championship, Clanton was announced as a Division I PING First-Team All-American in partnership with the GOLF Channel.

Clanton joins Wenyi Ding of Arizona State, Mats Ege of East Tennessee State, Nick Gabrelcik of North Florida, Ben James of Virginia, Jackson Koivun of Auburn, Christo Lamprecht of Georgia Tech, Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt, 2024 NCAA Division I Individual Champion Hiroshi Tai of Georgia Tech, Michael Thorbjornsen of Stanford, and Brendan Valdes of Auburn.

The Hialeah, Fla., native has enjoyed one of the most decorated single seasons in FSU history, becoming the first Seminole ever to win three consecutive tournaments.
