What was UNC doing?

I just rewatched the second half. I dont get what UNC was doing. This isn't a they gave it away post but the overall demeanor of that team the entire second half was one that didn't care about winning at all. No uptempo 2 minute offense, no stacking the box to stop the run, not using timeouts, a QB that looked totally disinterested, WR dropping passes. What a disheartening performance by them. We totally took advantage of it and it was very encouraging to watch us continue to keep the pedal down. Still alot to clean up but man UNC is in bad shape.

UM Program

Do y’all think that King’s injury will turn into a silver lining for Manny and buy him more time? I imagine he’ll use this to excuse the terrible season they’re likely heading towards.

Second question: do ya’ll prefer the devil you know or the devil you don’t, if he gets fired? Manny doesn’t scare me, but we’ve seen what the lack of stability does to a program. Even a good coaching hire likely presses the reset button for them and allows us to surpass them again.

"Renegade Express": Open Week week

Is it the bye week? Off week? Open Week? Anyhow, the bamboo experiencing some growth and all told, we're really only one game off the 5-7 pace a lot of folks were bracing for. Feels a little reckless to think this thing is off and running, feels a little dour to think it's entirely fools gold. Anyhow, what will you be doing to enjoy this serene Saturday? Post your questions, general topics and theories below for they will provide the fuel (along with delicious De Luna Coffee) for what is sure to be another rock solid show.

Little things making big impact

A few things I saw from the game Saturday. 1st, we started doing this vs Syracuse, stunting and stunting on blitzes. The first few weeks we had good defense but could not get off the field on 3rd down. We would sit back in zone and get picked apart week in and week out. We finally have started to bring pressure but bring it in a variety of ways. I love the stunts and the way we are bringing our back 7 to where it’s containing the Qb as well and forcing him to step up where our front 4 can make plays. A great example of this was 4th and goal and we brought the LB in a wrap blitz where he came off the edge, late, and forced Howell to get rid of it quick. 2nd, seeing JT13 go through his professions was great. 3rd down driving and he went through 2 or 3 and came down to the drag for a first down. In the beginning of the game I felt he was missing some reads but he did a good job overall. Last, I think our play calling is better. We do not have the same players as he did in Memphis and i think we are starting to call plays to our strengths. Running our two RBs, running some slip screens, pa passes and letting JT13 play his game. Hopefully they continue to build off of this and we see continued progress.

Season just got interesting

Can’t understate the magnitude of that win with other events that have transpired

The NC state game just regained its importance for the season. Big time dogs but the games in Doak and is likely to be a night game because NC St will sky rocket in the polls if they win their next three games. ESPN will be scrambling to try and get them attention to the national audience if they are two wins after us away from knocking Clemson out of the ACCcg and 4 wins after us away from securing one of the playoff births so best place to do that is to hype a night game trip to Doak.

Miamis losing King and Garcia means a third string freshman will be coming into doak on senior night.

BC is a good football team but at the end of the day if we pull the upset of the year, turn around and beat a headless Miami team at home and are playing for a bowl game in Massachusetts that’s a coin flip.

would be an incredible turn around.

We threw the ball 13 times this weekend - 34 against Jax St and 39 against Louisville

22 times against WF with 3 pics but we had to because they kept scoring

Running the ball effectively created high % passing opportunities for Travis this weekend and he delivered. 11 straight completions after going 0-2.

I hope Norvell stays with this approach. Even though we were down 10, he didn’t panic and start slinging the ball around.

This team does not have the type of players to be a gunslinging offense… we have to RPO / high % short/medium game is what is is best suited for. Less turnovers is a result of it too… while Travis had a great game against UNC, he still is not a top tier QB when it comes to his accuracy. Trying to pick a part a defense for him means more INTs.

and the last positive…. This all benefits the defense. We did not put them in bad situations with short fields from 3 and outs or turnovers.
