One Of The Most Historic Days In FSU Football.........

I was just rolling in from my batchelor party about this time 41 years ago to the day.....but woke up in time to listen to the game on the radio before heading to the Church. What a time we had. Had to be the most exciting FSU fan wedding experience on the heels of that game...it's all we talked about and cheered often all night long. My numerous frat brothers blew through the alcohol allocation 4-5 times in just a few hours at the reception.

FSU pass defense showing signs of improvement heading into major UNC test

In the six quarters since halftime of the Louisville game, FSU has surrendered just 187 yards through the air on 20-of-37 passing. That's an average of 31.2 yards per quarter and just 5.05 yards per attempt.

In the first 14 quarters of this season, the Seminoles allowed opponents to throw for an average of 78.1 yards per quarter and 8.41 yards per attempt.

Is that a sign of real improvement? Or is it a small sample size against weaker competition? This Saturday at UNC, the Seminoles will find out for sure.

FSU 33, Syracuse 30 FINAL

And he drilled it. FSU wins! Big win. A couple of terrific runs by Jordan Travis set it up.
FSU is now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the ACC.
Florida State 33, Syracuse 30 FINAL

Thanks to a couple of huge Travis runs, FSU has the ball at the Cuse 16. Fitzgerald will try to win it with a 34-yard FG at the horn.

Both teams trade punts. FSU has the ball at its own 20. With 1:03 left in regulation.
Florida State 30, Syracuse 30 1:03 4th

Syracuse gets inside the 10 but FSU defense holds em out of the end zone. They kick the field goal to tie the game.
Syracuse 30, Florida State 30 5:17 4th

Travis is intercepted on a WR screen because Camm McDonald just completely whiffs on a block. Syracuse true freshman corner just made a spectacular interception. FSU's true freshmen don't do things like that.
Anywho. Syracuse has the ball at the FSU 41.
Florida State 30, Syracuse 27 8:30 4th

Takes Syracuse six plays to answer. FSU gives up 40-yard kick return. Then a 25-yard pass on the first play. Forces a third and 10 and then somehow, someway ... lets a dude get wide open in the middle of the field on a crossing route for another touchdown. Defense has been awful since its strong start. The second half against Louisville was just a mirage.
Florida State 30, Syracuse 27 10:35 4th

Really big answer by the FSU offense after the Syracuse score. Travis hit Ward for a 4-yard pass on third and three. Then Ward ripped off a 65-yard run inside the Cuse 5. And Corbin scored on the next play.
Florida State 30, Syracuse 20 13:24 4th

FSU got the ball at the 1. Did nothing with it. Got out to the 10. Another 39-yarder by Mastromanno and Syracuse goes 49 yards in three plays. The big play was a 32-yard run by QB Shrader when Fuller bit on the play-fake. Again. It's about the sixth time they've run that playfake with the bootleg and only once has the FSU DE stayed home. Tucker got it down to the 1 on the next play. And then Shrader leaps over for a QB sneak TD.
Florida State 23, Syracuse 20 :09 3rd

FSU forced a three and out. Had control of the game. Then Pokey Wilson muffed the punt. Syracuse went down to the FSU 1. Didn't get it on fourth down. Great hit by Deloach to stand him up.
Florida State 23, Syracuse 13 3:20 3rd

Seminoles punch it in. Corbin with a couple of first-down runs. Travis with a big-time throw to Helton on third down to keep the drive alive. And then the break of all breaks, a backwards pass to Pokey, he drops it, Parchment is there to pick it up and run into the end zone. Big break for an offense that really needed one.
Florida State 23, Syracuse 13 8:48 3rd

Both teams go three and out on their first possessions. But FSU gets a break when Syracuse's punter hits an 11-yarder. Seminoles will get the ball at the Cuse 44 to start this drive. Thomas had another big play to trip up the QB on third down.
Florida State 16, Syracuse 13 11:43 3rd

Syracuse hits a 20-yard pass on the first play, but then fizzles from there. An incomplete screen pass and then a dropped screen. Travis Jay credited with an INT on the Hail Mary to end the half.
Florida State 16, Syracuse 13 HALFTIME

Nice answer by the FSU offense. It was aided by a defensive holding and a very, very questionable roughing the passer .... but hey, it counts. Travis hit Ward for a couple of completions. Found McDonald for one. And then hit Helton for a 14-yard TD in the middle of the end zone. Nice leaping catch by Helton. Travis is now 17 of 21 for 107 yards and two touchdowns.
Florida State 16, Syracuse 13 :36 2nd

FSU offense goes three and out again. And Syracuse marches right down the field again. Five play drive. It went like this: First down, first down, first down, first down, touchdown.
QB is ripping them apart right now with his legs.
Syracuse 13, Florida State 9 2:33 2nd

FSU can't have nice things. Short kickoff with not great coverage. Then gives up a first down on a pass when Robinson (who has played well) misses a tackle. On the next play, QB Shrader makes Jermaine Johnson miss and then just sprints through the FSU defense for a 55-yard TD. Syracuse then misses PAT, so all even on that front.
Florida State 9, Syracuse 6 6:21 2nd

FSU gets the ball at midfield after another three-and-out and another short punt. Travis has a 20-yard run and then follows that up with an RPO short pass to Camm McDonald, who bulled his way into the end zone from 14 yards out. Fitzgerald, who had to wait a long time for the snap for some reason, pushed the PAT right. Second missed PAT of the year.
Florida State 9, Syracuse 0 7:40 2nd

The two teams have traded three-and-outs. FSU had a first-down pass to Ward but it was called back on a holding penalty by McDonald. Travis was then sacked on second down.
Florida State 3, Syracuse 0 11:25 2nd

Syracuse picks up a couple of first downs, but FSU's defense stiffens again. Thomas makes another great play on fourth-and-two to end that drive at the FSU 25. But the offense goes three and out. Travis scrambled eight yards on third down, but they needed nine. Syracuse runs one play and that's the end of the quarter.
Florida State 3, Syracuse 0 15:00 2nd

FSU defense gets a three and out. Keir Thomas made two really nice plays to get the Seminoles off the field. Then the FSU offense goes 48 yards in 17 plays to get into FG range. Fitzgerald drills it from 35. FSU leads!
Florida State 3, Syracuse 0 6:12 1st

FSU wins the toss and elects to receive second-half kickoff. So FSU defense will be on the field first.

3:10 -- Looked like Chubba might be the backup. We'll see.

3:03 -- Travis is the starting QB in warmups. Baveon at center.

2:50 -- Center Maurice Smith is dressed out and doing some snapping during pregame warmups. That's great to see. DL Fabien Lovett is also dressed this week.

2:45 -- Akeem Dent is playing today after missing last week.

2:42 -- Based on how they're warming up, I think Travis might be the starting QB. Not guaranteed, but looks like it in the early warmups.

2:25 -- As you might have seen on Twitter, FSU is wearing all garnet today. Looks like Syracuse will wear white tops with orange pants. ... Seeing the questions about the OL health. Those guys haven't come out yet.

2:05 -- An athletic trainer is working with Travis Jay ... stretching his ankles or lower legs. Might be evaluating whether he can go today. Think he's been dealing with something.

2 p.m. -- WRs and DBs are now out doing some of their preliminary warmups. Linebackers and a few defensive linemen have come out as well.

1:55 p.m. -- All of the running backs are taking their walk around the field. Looks like Lawrance Toafili is a full-go ... he returned to practice this week after missing the Louisville game.

1:38 p.m. -- All four quarterbacks are warming up on the field. Jordan Travis is throwing and does not have a brace on his knee.

Good afternoon, we are here at Doak Campbell Stadium for FSU-Syracuse (3:30 p.m. ACC Network). We'll have updates streaming in shortly.

How about some love for two former baseball Noles?

MLB regular season ended today with Tampa Bay and San Francisco securing the best records in each league. Kevin Cash managed the Rays to perfection all year as they set a franchise record with 100 wins. He could win his second straight AL Manager of the Year award.

And Buster Posey got his 1,500th career hit today and drove in three runs as San Francisco won its franchise record 107th of the season, a win total literally NO ONE saw coming. Posey won't sniff the MVP, and isn't even expected to finish in the top 10 which is a little weird considering he was the leading hitter on the best team in baseball, while also handling to perfection a pitching staff that gave up the fewest walks, fewest HRs, and 2nd fewest runs. If he plays the full season maybe he's in the conversation.

Hopefully both these two get to another World Series.

WC is $10/ month, could you afford $15?

If you can, that new partner, Teampaper is pretty cool. It starts at $4.99 a month. I signed up. Honestly, I'm not really interested in the content, but here's a thought: If everyone on the TC "sponsored" a player (it'll make sense when you see the site) we'd make a pretty cool and meaningful impact. I'm pretty sure it all gets divvied up evenly, so it doesn't matter who you sponsor. Don't think of it as a product. Think of it as five bucks a month we're throwing into a jar, 80% of which goes directly to the players. Go Noles!!!

Who's in?

I’m excited

For the future. I like Norvell, even though this season had been a disaster. Defense plays hard and stops the run. Offense sucks but they run hard and don’t quit. Now that we have broken every bad record possible you can just cheer for your team. All expectations have gone away. Ya they suck right now but i think they will improve. I could see a time where Norvell has them humming again. He does well at all the HC things we told jumbo to focus on rather than calling plays, unfortunately he has terrible coordinators. I think we will fix that soon then the program can turn around #fullerout

What if we could only post about the football team TWICE a year?

Like, say, once at the beginning and once at the end of each season?

There’s a “forest for the trees” problem that I see here, and all over social media, where we get caught up in minutiae and lose sight of the larger trends and bigger picture.

Would we be happier? Have a better sense of the state of the program? Or a worse sense? Better or worse informed?

I get that posting/discussing is fun, but how VALUABLE is it when it comes to assessing the program?

FSU simply has to address the OL issue through the transfer portal in the offseason.

Bad experience with seat widths

I know the seats are tight. But in my opinion are too damn small. I was with my petite wife and small 8 year old daughter and we couldn’t fit our seats apparently. 5 min into the game I start having someone behind me putting their foot in my butt and side until I asked what the hell their problem was. Apparently I was taking up half of their seat. I was in the wrong I guess but they could have asked me to tighten up. It’s what I would have done. Has anybody had a similar experience?
