35.5 PPG vs 18 PPG

I’m not saying Travis is a good QB, nor am I saying that was a fun game to watch. That said, we relied on our RB’s (a lot in the passing game) & a guy who makes things happen at QB, for better or worse. And the games Travis has started this year, we’ve scored points, where as the games he didn’t start we’ve only gotten to 20 once.

Anyway, a win is a win. I know we all want to continue being mad, but enjoy the wins when we can.

Non emotional take on the game/program

Pt. 2 for this year

1- Jordan Travis has to be the QB going forward. No he can’t throw worth a damn but his legs really just make magic happen at times… and that’s what it takes to get this team wins

2- coaching is just as big of a problem as the players themselves/talent level. Kenny was begging for cuse to pick that screen pass off all game and I think many of us knew what was about to happen when the DB was pressed up on the line like that. Late calls on Defense left that guy wide open on the crossing route TD as well. Far too many mistakes by coaches week after week.
3- the defense showed a ton of heart today. Got the stops we needed to win the game. If we had a half decent offense we’d be 3-2
4- as soon as we lost to jax st. The negative recruiting really exploded. It’s gonna take a whole lot of work to keep this class together without some incredibly unlikely turnaround this year. I believe we have a couple fantastic asst. coaches that can make it work though.
5- I think Norvell really has to dig deep this off-season and decide if he has what it takes to bring this program back. Kenny D has to go. Idk who we’d bring in but it can’t be worse than what we have.
6- can we please, for the love of god, please stop returning kicks from 5 yards deep in the end zone. None of these dudes are Kermit and Norvell has to put a stop to it
7-glad to see Travis hunter’s injury wasn’t as bad as I thought initially. I think we still land him but like much of the board I’m starting to worry
8-my last post like this I ended it with a (half) jokingly “F kickers.” I sure can’t say that tonight. Great performance from fitz

Please don’t call

this is a high school offense. You are disrespecting high school offenses across the country. There are many subscribers, like me, who are or have coached high school football. Many of us have called offenses as well. I believe we could all add sense and stability to this offense, even with the current OL. To think that JT essentially won this game, by chaos, and not designed plays for him, is laughable. There are glimpses of a solid offense like throwing on an obvious passing down, or vice versa (what Syracuse realized would work against us). The win feels good but a group of us are still seething.

Objective areas of improvement

1) Penalties/discipline - we have significantly less penalties trying to line up on offense, false starts, illegal procedures, delay of games, and selfish personal fouls.

2) physicality and tackling - I would no longer consider our team soft. We have a mindset of a physical team even if we don't have the horses to fully be that yet.

3) Playing hard - we play hard and do not quit and that cannot be argued.

4) Appear organized - we call appropriate timeouts, send plays in on time, and appear to execute a gameplan with an identity (regardless of whether some don't like our gameplan or identity)

5) Pass rush - No longer do QBs have all day to pick us apart. We force the action a good amount of time.

We have so far to go. The OL is still among the worst in cfb (sorry but it's true). We don't really have a QB. And our WRs scare no one and allow defenses to crowd the line on money downs. We also have no depth on either side of the ball and get worn down quickly.

But Rome wasn't built in a day. I am happy we finally appear to be a program with a plan and have an organized approach to working that plan.

1-4 after this weekend..

The Syracuse game will be the first win of the season. It is a great matchup for FSU in being their only strength (a RB) plays right into out hands. They can't throw to take advantage of our terrible secondary. The JSU game was a very fluke loss, but this is our win. So is U-Mass. 2-12 looks to be our floor from this point forward. Will see if we we can garner any kind of momentum after this win.

We aren't going 0-12. It feels as if we could at this point, but that is just not going to happen. We win this weekend, save this post.

Baby steps

We are far from a good team, but I think we are growing in certain areas. Penalties were low for the second straight game. Only 3 flags on us.

FSU had 22 first downs

FSU 3rd down 6-15
Cuse 3rd down 2-12

FSU 4th down 2-2
Cuse 4th down 0-3

Goaline stop.

Finally got Cam McDonald involved.

FSU ran for 247 yards

We are not a good team, but I think we are growing in certain areas. Baby steps.

One other thing. Tre’Shaun Ward only got 2 carries. One he broke for 65 yards. Coaches should be getting him more opportunities.

Coach dilemma?

You think maybe he hired coaches he knew he could direct the way he wanted, and didn’t challenge himself to bring in coaches who wouldn’t always agree and fight for their position on a subject/player etc?

I would hope coaches hire coaches that make them better, challenge them, and also compliment them.. You don’t just hire Yes men, you hire the best you can get whether that is male/female, young/old, and you don’t need to be best friends you need results period

We were playing against more

Than Syracuse tonight… man is it hard to get your first win. Especially after losing 4 straight to start the season.

Of course it was super ugly. Same ol head scratching play call and execution we have been seeing all year. Yet, I am super proud of the team and CMN to pull one out.

Norvell has a bad team right now, but seeing a bad team fight each week is a sign of good times to come. Imagine when we have a talented team that also has the same fight…

Go Noles!!
