Is there a scenario where FSU drops football?

Before I start I will say that we are nowhere near dropping the program, nor do I want us to take such drastic measures. I pray that we win today and start moving upward again. I know that some posters will freak out and call me a troll (I'm not) just for bringing this up as a point of discussion. Albeit horrible, it is interesting to discuss though.

During moments of pique I bet we have all said it at some point in the last few seasons, many of likely said it Saturday night..."This program is dead, we need to drop football." We don't mean it, and when we calm down we feel kind of silly, or at least I do, but what would that look like? Could it actually happen?

What if FSU gets blown out by Wake today and then Louisville next Saturday, the team quits and we go winless or 1-11? What if the recruiting class falls apart? We can't really afford to fire Norvell while we are still paying Taggart, and it would be a bad look to fire another coach after two years, so we keep him. Then there is little to no improvement in 2022 and the bottom falls out. The fan base is gone. The ACC from a financial standpoint is still the ACC, which means little to no help from that sector. NIL makes the rich richer and the poor (which now includes FSU) poorer. What if the football program continues to lose huge amounts of money (like it is now) and is a drain, rather than a help, to other athletic programs? I think that might leave us with very few choices, and none of them are good.

1. Continue to try to keep up with the big boys, which means hemorrhaging money that we don't have?
2. Cut overhead to the bone and be content with being a below average program at best, taking what money there is coming in from the ACC? Kind of like Wake or Syracuse?
3. Cut our losses and drop the program entirely?

USF, FAU and UCF have football teams, are they money makers? How about FCS and Dii programs? Do they make money? I suspect that they do not, and if not why do they exist? Is it just to add to the student experience? To offer scholarships to 85 young men, many of them from difficult backgrounds that may not go to college otherwise? In other words, results on the field don't really matter. Would a proud FSU fan base be ok with this?

Many people are starting to compare FSU to Nebraska or Tennessee. Well, one of those teams is in the SEC and the other is in the BIG, they don't have major money concerns.

I obviously don't have answers. But if the end came what do y'all think it would look like? Is it even a remote possibility? Would the university keep a program that operates in the red by millions of dollars every year?

Schoffel: Examining why McKenzie Milton is FSU's starting QB

Like many of you, I was a little surprised that FSU made McKenzie Milton the clear-cut starter for Wake Forest after his first start against Jacksonville State.

But after going back and watching every offensive series from that game, I can see what the Seminoles' coaches are thinking.

Recapping FSU since 2013

Ignition Tradition started a tradition alright. A tradition of being a total embarrassment. There is a really dark cloud hanging over this program.

1. Started with the ridiculous look in the Oklahoma State game. White bird poop tomahawks. Ugly Gold numbers that you can’t even determine who you are looking at. Crossing spears that somehow “resembled the state flag”. Purplish garnet. Magenta facemasks. Ridiculous yellow gold helmets. Tan pants. If we stare at that new logo long enough though..

2. The abortion that was the Oregon game. 6 turnovers. Jameis and Dalvin follies. We literally gifted the Ducks that game and our 29 game winning streak was no more.

3 All of the Jameis drama. Crab legs. Student Union. Ketchup soda cups. The slandering of the program from national media for months.

4. Jameis dressing for the Clemson game and then being sent back to the locker room by Jimbo.

5. Speaking of Jimbo, his ugly, public divorce. Yelling at fans “Why don’t you come down here and say that to my face”. Christmas tree. Wife cheating on him with a former Gator. Totally checked out. Alienating the entire fanbase and admin. Leaving the program in shambles.

6. Cases in point. Houston bowl game loss. JJ freaking Cosentino.

7. George Tech last second blocked field goal for the walkoff win. Tech’s only ACC win for that matter.

8. Louisville blowout loss. 63 points. Lamar Jackson literally running wild.

9. UNC driving down with 30 seconds left for game winning field goal. Kicker doing the tomahawk chop in all of our faces.

10. Derwin James going down to season ending injury in game 2.

11. Francois going down first game against Bama. Having to start a 160 pound true freshman behind the worst OL in the country.

12. Miami driving down for a last second game winning TD and snapping 7 game losing streak.

13. Near historic loss to Samford.

14. Blowing 20 point lead to Miami for loss number two in a row or the Canes.

15. Louisville field goal with 5 seconds left to win. Blow another one.

16. Ricky Aguayo wide left loss at Wake

17. 35-3 blowout loss to BC. Yet “we didn’t quit”

18. Entire short lived Willie Taggart era. Highlight of the entire era was his first spring game.

19. Virginia Tech opening loss. Eye opening experience.

20. 30-7 loss to freaking Syracuse.

21. Another painful 1 point loss to Miami.

22. Professor sitting in the stands reading a book during blowout loss to Clemson.

22. Pink Turnover backpack. Somehow that was hip.

23. Dance parties at practice.

24. Boise State home opening loss. Blew 3 touchdown lead. Yikes.

25. Near overtime loss to Louisiana Monroe. Good thing we pulled that one out!

26. Sam Howell dipping on us on signing day.
Apparently Walt Bell was his only reason he wanted to go here. Luke Altmeyer doing the same. Michael Penix. Jeff Sims. Don’t forget Kayvon Thibeadeaux. List of recruiting misses is miles long.

27. Offensive line tradition of excellence

28. Subsequent Greg Frey lawsuit.

29. Admin staff including President Barron. Randy Spetman. Stan Wilcox. Andy Miller. Rob Wilson. President Thrasher. Great leaders I tell you!

30. Coaching staff legends including Rick Trickett. Charles Kelly. Walt Bell. Alonzo Hampton. Harlon Barnett. Bill Miller. David Kelly not being able to coach. Adam Fuller. Don’t forget Billy Napier and TJ Rushing were here for a combined 3 days!

31. Marvin Wilson social justice warrior. Nice way to bring down your new coach. Doak Campbell and Seminole name under consistent fire.

32. Tomorrion Terry. Great teammate and human.

33. Travis Rudolph. Another great human.

34. Ira Denson. Such a nice guy!

35. Cam Akers coming up just short at UVA.

36. Losing to Georgia Tech and true freshman Jeff Sims at Doak in his first start. Oh the guy who was committed to FSU for over two years?

37. Promise letters. Those worked!

38. Jake Coker and Landon Dickerson winning titles at Alabama.

39. Malik Henry, DeAndre Johnson, John Franklin, JJ Cosentino, James Blackman, Sean Maguire, Everett Golson, Alex Hornibrook. Hitting massive home runs at QB.

40. Blowout losses to middle of pack ACC teams such as NC State, Louisville, Wake, BC, Pitt.

41. Gators snapping their 5 game losing streak

42. Burt Reynolds RIP

43. TK Wetherall RIP

44. Tommie Wright RIP

45. Sandy D'Alemberte RIP

46. Monk Bonosorte RIP

47. Bobby Bowden RIP

48. Notre Dame overtime loss.

49. Now this disaster.

Don’t even want to know what number 50 is.

This program is cursed.

How much ugly can yall stomach?

Let me say first I was never a Taggart guy and I never liked the hire because I really don't like super nice guys as head coaches. Coach Bowden had the Southern charm but he would get after you. I'm a Jimbo guy and I always thought we should pull together and at least try to counter A&M with something massive. That's the only way to be in the big league. We chose to ball on a budget and here we are. How much ugly can you stomach? Can you stomach 2-10? It sure looks bleak in my opinion. Either way I'm going to criticize Norvell until or if he turn this dumpster fire around. I'm a Nole for life. And yes I'm a booster and have been on the Booster tours with Jam and had great times doing it

JSU not worst loss ever

ML said in tonight’s recruiting chat that the JSU loss was the worst in program history. Yes it was an exceedingly bad loss because it was to an FCS school. But the worst IMO was to Southern Miss in 1989. Unlike our current team that has low expectations, our 1989 team was supposed to be a top 10 powerhouse, and that loss left us 0-2. The 1989 team didn’t lose another game including a New Years victory in the Fiesta Bowl. But at the time there were lots of unhappy fans.

BTW the Southern Miss team was quarterbacked by Brett Favre. JSU’s Cooper is no slouch. His scrambling extended plays and he had excellent receivers. They may have gotten crushed the week before, but this team obviously wasn’t the same and they played confident and fearless.

Fuller: Bend don't....

Something I have noticed about Fuller. If you look at their TDs in Q4. We had stopped them most of the game. At that point, it seems you dial-up either pressure and load the box but take some risk of giving up big play if QB makes the right play quickly. The other option is to go into pass prevent and force them to run and burn the clock. Why do we often see some weird hybrid that does not accomplish anything namely slowing them down or preventing a TD? For all three of their TD drives, we gave up some mind-numbing 3rd and long chunk plays. And did the same during the game when they did not score but hurt our field position. It comes down to coaches and/or players having zero situational awareness. On 3rd and long, you either commit to rush or commit to coverage. We often do neither. To be honest, we saw the same before Norvell and Fuller came.
