#100pagesnatty Thread 11/08/18 #63pagesnattynumber1 #106pagesnattynumber2

Sorry to rehash the discussion from yesterday, but I've thought of a point that I believe bolsters my arguments: It's the job of the AD to hire the head coaches of various sports in his department, correct?? Should anyone else have any say in who he hires??

I recently saw a comment about Texas law that got me wondering about Jimbo's contract.

His $75 million "guaranteed" contract may not be guaranteed after all. Texas law has a provision that protects the state, including state universities from being sued unless the state legislature grants permission to sue. If Jimbo performs poorly, TAMU can fire him under the guise of some type of misconduct and Jimbo would have no legal recourse unless the legislature granted it. It happened to Mike Leach when Texas Tech fired him and refused to pay the remainder of his contract

https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...-texas-tech-washington-state-coach/440102001/.

I wonder if Sexton explained this to Jimbo?

That would be hilarious. I have zero doubt looking at aTm’s upcoming schedule that 4-5 losses are going to happen for the first two years. Only in the third year does it lighten up, so if he doesn’t perform that third year I doubt he gets a fourth.

In the case at FSU, there is a search committe consisting of the AD, President and the BOT Chair who will jointly make that decision. That coach will answer to the AD.

Very comforting to hear after what I've seen about Wilcox's priorities in this coaching search.

I have confirmed that as of this morning FSU has taken steps to begin discussions with Charlie Strong. This does not mean he is now the top candidate, but #FSU fans had better hope #Noles come to terms w/Taggart today to avoid this fate.

Jebus, I hope that’s wrong but I could see Wilcox stupidly doing just that. Especially since we have publicly stated we’re only considering minority candidates (and thereby screwing Brohm who would be 1000x better than Strong. I’m all for affirmative action when it results in talented people like Willie Taggart getting a job they wouldn’t have in the past, but not when it props up mediocre people like Strong).

Giving the benefit of the doubt, FSU has to negotiate this way. We fall in love with Taggart and make it look like it's him or bust and Sexton will take us to the cleaners again.

Or maybe there's no strategy at all.

Time will tell.

On the subject of program prominence. This was sobering to read.

Category School A School B
Ticket sales $17,445,095 $41,710,523
Contributions $15,840,981 $32,806,055
Recruiting budget $655,785 $884,700
Head coach’s salary $7,437,349 $6,304,582
Assistant coaches’ salaries $5,329,311 $4,082,237
Total operating expenses $42,547,101 $29,945,769
Total operating revenues $66,023,711 $99,563,727

Ok, but how has that translated in the field and in recruiting?

Jimbo's loving that people are buying the whole "resources" excuse. But why not, our AD himself said it's a major issue and we're basically just fortunate to be able to compete with those bigger schools.

If this is true, we should make our tagline - "FSU, the Tennessee of the farther south."

No way Strong should be given the keys to our car after his disaster at Texas. Maybe, maybe it would be worth the risk if he was younger, given success at Louisville and ties to Florida.....but he turns 58 before next year’s firs game.

Wilcox said that because our top targets are Taggart and Fuente, with Strong behind them. I hope we drum that message into the minds of recruits, that FSU is a place where you can succeed at every level. If we get Taggart while Florida is on their twentieth middle aged white guy in a row, I think we could own recruiting in this state and have a huge advantage in hiring assistants.

Seriously, we need to leave color out of this hire. Leave that nonsense to other schools.

I want Taggart. If not ,and I hate to say this - I want Kiffin.

Franklin, Strong, and Stoops all fail to move the needle.

I have a feeling Fuente is not interested.

Kiffen would have two possible outcomes. He’d either be spectacularly successful, or a colossal failure. Odds are about even as to which it would be. Either way, he’d likely only be here a few years - then would bolt for the NFL, or be run out of town.

I’d also worry about major sanctions, but if we got Kiffin we could get Pruitt from Alabama. They could go clubbing together.

The facilities excuse is just that....an excuse. Some will say "Oh A&M plays in the SEC".

Aggy had money and underachieved when they were in the Big 12 also so that excuse doesn't work.

Jimbo's going to drive the Operating Expenses line item through the roof.

When you lose to BC, I don’t want to hear you aren’t competitive because of facilities. (To whoever our coach is)

Exactly. Losing 35-3 to Boston College when you're loaded with 4 and 5 star talent isn't because of facilities

I genuinely believe A&M got scammed. I can’t think of a player Jimbo’s developed since 2013. Even the guys like Ramsey and James don’t show signs of improvement. They are just ridiculous physical specimens. McFadden has actually gotten worse. Cook was a once in a career type back.

You are not used to the Aggies. Everything they do is weird. The interesting thing is that, for the most part, the Aggies are sub-par in all male sports. Sometimes they have a decent baseball team.
Apparently not. My impression is that the school is full of guys like Niedermeyer from Animal House.

Nice of Jimbo to stop and recognize the band members that welcomed him.

Will he get a marching band when they run his ass out of town after five straight seasons of 8-4? You know the saying, when you’re being chased out of town, it’s best to act like you’re leading the parade.
