So I guess we’re a basketball school now.

So hopefully we didn’t botch the negotiations. All the sources say Taggart was only seeking $5 mil for 5 years. I would have played coy for...I dunno 30 seconds and then said DONE! $5 mil to salvage our recruiting class this year is a “no brainer”.

I have high hopes we didn’t screw that up, but what gives me cause for concern is that he rescheduled a recruiting visit for tomorrow morning which I doubt would have been done if we met his requirements.

If Wilcox has screwed the pooch on this he needs to be run out of town. I was just about sick to my stomach when I read they were searching for a minority coach. Taggart is the one I have wanted since I first thought it was a real possibility JF moving on. Not because he is black but because I think he is the best fit for the position. Not so will Strong. While I really like him from the way I have seen him handle himself with the dumpster fire UT turned out to be, I DO NOT THINK HE IS GOOD FIT FOR FSU at this time.

My question and concern with Wilcox and a minority coach is what will be the acceptable threshold of performance. Will it be consistent 7-5, 8-4 or will 10 wins and regular ACC championships be the standard? I think all we need to do is look at the BB program and see what the answer would be. Of course mediocrity may just be his standard since he seems happy with the baseball program too.

Neither Strong nor Taggart are proven in my book. Looking at Strong’s performance at Louisville you would say that he is but the Texas stint with a mediocre result at USF with Taggart’s great recruits makes him unproven in my book. Taggart has improved his team every year other than his first at USF, but has only one ten win season which I would consider our min standard for most seasons.

The difference is, Taggart being announced will have recruits raining in like mana from heaven. Strong would maybe get us back to maybe a top 20 maybe top 15 class if we’re lucky.

Where is this often quoted thing that has been placed in this thread actually written? Link? Author? Was it Wilcox? President Thrasher? Direct quote?

Wilcox told that to Mark Schlabach allegedly. From an ESPN article

““In case that happens, I’m told FSU athletic director Stan Wilcox would like to land a minority coach if they needed a replacement. So keep an eye on Oregon’s Willie Taggart, former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, and South Florida’s Charlie Strong.”

Also from an ABC article

Schlabach: I've been told that Stan Wilcox, the athletics director, really would like to target a minority head coach. Somebody who has a connection to the state and the ACC or SEC would be the most desirable. For the most part, they'll take a look at somebody with an offensive background, because that's what worked with Fisher.”

Thank you, Tribe. First time I had ever seen that quote but after seeing a reference to it several times in this thread I had to ask to see if it was a quote or a bad game of telephone.

Unfortunately it is still "I'm told" and Mark...well, just no.

83-66 final...and that’s 4-in-a-row vs the gators!

Way to go Noles!

We are undefeated and just dominated the #5 team on their own court. Do we get enough love to get ranked #25?? Actually I guess I would rather the reverse of most years happen. Let's fly under the radar all year, underranked, then kill it in the NCAA Tourney.

Latest is- negotiations were still taking place earlier in Scottsdale, but that salary wasn't the key item, and mostly concerned the buyout (which sounds good in my book). Also, that before anything is made official (or tweeted prematurely), Taggart wants to fly back and address the team personally before it gets out.
So basically he wants to get back to his boys and let them know the right way. Only downside is that they are on PST, so it might not be made official until noon or later our time.

That’s more positive than anything I’ve seen online and I hope you’re right. My usual “sources” have been silent as has Doc Staples so that could be a good or bad thing in and of itself.

I do hope they haven’t screwed it up by coming in low.

So an anchor from an Orlando tv channel agrees with what you said. So that’s very promising.

I'm a mid-level booster, I have impressionable sources. Havent had the real down low from players and ga's since Bobby. But everything Ive read is guardedly positive, with some of my own analytics thrown in; mostly pertaining to Taggart speaking with the team and the time frame he would tell them. If anything was dotted tonight, a 3 hr differential, time zone wise, plus a meeting with his old team, would add a few hrs. If we don't hear anything before 4pm est, then I will get worried.

I guess call me old school. We got our guy, but walking back the cat in leaks is probably impossible in organizations and departments this large. This probably shouldnt have come out yet, and while we all knew this was most likely going to happen, I hope that he doesnt leave his team without addressing them honestly. Glass houses and changing times and all that comes with it. Bet his xmas tree is not laying on the side of the road...Bet it is not plastic either.

Unlike Jimbo, he did tell his players he was going to listen to the offer from us rather than just deny, deny. So he was honest or at least more honest with them.

“A source told The Register-Guard that Taggart described Florida State as his “dream job” during a meeting with Oregon players on Friday and something he wanted to investigate.”

Soooooooo....much more open and honest than Jimbo.
