Saw this article on the TC, it is a good article about Jessie Warren with some commentary about the value some college athletes place on being able to play and get a degree.

“Being able to play softball at Florida State has meant everything in the world to me,” Jessie says. “Without the boosters and the people who support Seminole Athletics, we athletes wouldn’t be able to get an education. And, to me, the education is the most important thing.

“My situation at home wasn’t always the best and without the support of the Seminoles, I wouldn’t have been able to go to college. I’m so thankful for all the people who have contributed to my scholarship and the scholarships of other athletes. It’s truly a blessing to have been able to go to Florida State for four years.”

So I agree with where we’re ranked mainly because we have to play #2, 7, 8, 17, 23 and 40 on this same list. Meanwhile Alabama only has to navigate through #19 and 21.

Why is it the cool thing to do to rank FSU below UF? This has been a trend in these 2018 "rankings" in the media. Yet....UF has lesser talent, lost to FSU multiple times recently, and has the same coaching change questions FSU does. Makes no sense.

Probably just the schedule really. We’ve got five games against Steele’s top 25 and Florida has three. They’ve got a cupcake schedule with six guaranteed wins on their schedule and only two or three guaranteed losses. Meanwhile we’ve got a very tough schedule with only four guaranteed wins imo.

So these rankings are now end-of-year predictions?

I believe that’s what they usually are, although Steele I believe usually issues HIS ranking and then what he guesses the AP ranking will be. But I believe this is HIS ranking so basically his best guess for the final rankings.

Here is Steele’s rankings on strength of schedule (hence why we’re so low).

Another couple of interesting takes from Phil Steele:

uf is his Most Improved Team in the country, and he has UNC rebounding to finish 2nd in the Coastal.

I'm not quite sure how he can make that assessment about uf. Just because Mullen is there now? They still have no quality QB's or other offensive skill players.

Cleveland's a quality WR, but besides that, I agree.

Sometimes I think Phil gives returning starters...especially QB...more emphasis than called for. Yeah, Franks is the returning starter sophomore QB..which sounds promising on the surface. But anyone in the know sees he's a poor fit for Mullen's system (and just plain not that great anyway).

Also, Steele assumes uf and FSU are always loaded with highly-touted recruits and that that will automatically translate to success on the field. Many times he's had us ranked higher preseason than the consensus because of this. (Ok, he was right in '13!)

Who is this Tareef Knockout wannabe rapper guy and why is he trying to make our MEAC-looking uniforms a thing for the Labor Day night game?
